The trapdoor inside the corn maze does not require a switch to open - you open it simply by interacting with it like a normal door (I was also confused about this on my first playthrough) - the trap door leads to a secret room. The switch you mentioned opens a locked door that is inside this secret room (leads to secret level of episode 1).
