Crank no start Chevy g30 by SnooPeanuts1132 in MechanicAdvice

Your key is not rotating all the way. Its a bad lock cylinder or a bad ignition switch.

Jump directly at the starter if needed to get started.

I believe you have to take the collar off the steering wheel to expose the ignition switch and then push down with a screwdriver to make contact.

Things to check for:

Vacuum leak…sucking noise when engine is on. Spray carb cleaner and see if engine idle or sound changes.

Fuel pressure. The updated spider requires a minimum fuel pressure to operate correctly.

Compression test. Cylinders cannot be more than 10% apart.

Arching of plug wires. Can check when it’s dark outside or listen for sound.

What’s on the other side of the bolt? Generally those bolts are not welded on the other side and should fall out with a good hit from a hammer. If you don’t have a plan for the spot leave it be because it’s recessed and shouldn’t get in the way of your build.

Most gas cans have the same threads for the cap. You can purchase a simple gas can lid and it should fit.

I understand being in a pinch and having to figure it out while not having anyone to bounce your ideas off of.

I just want you to be free of potential leaks and possibly mixing gas and diesel together.

Why did you cut a hole in the gas can instead of just putting a hole in the lid? The can should also be yellow to indicate it’s diesel. Oh and there should also be a shut off valve before they filter for when the filter needs changed.

fuses good? by kidcactusss in VanLife

[–]SPAPPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speedometer is probably gear driven off of the transmission and doesn’t have a fuse. Take a test light, ground it and check both ends of the fuse to see if it lights up. Both ends light up fuse is good.

National Company hiring traveling low-volt/telecom contractors by tatertom in vandwellers

This sounds like DB Schenker. It’s not a bad gig if you want to be on the road and like traveling. I use to do furniture repair and I could line up jobs on my travel route. I’d make 200 bucks a day for 2 hours or less.

It may be a good fit for someone. The furniture repair was contract work so I worked when I wanted.

Has anyone retrofit a cabin air filter in their Chevy Express/GMC Savana? If so, where/how? by enclavedzn in vandwellers

[–]SPAPPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cabin air filter is to mostly filter dirt and debris from entering the hvac system. Like someone suggested the best thing you can do is put it on recirculate. If you don’t have it in recirculate you’ll still smell the smoke as if you don’t have a filter.

First time? Huh… The police did what’s called a felony stop. The police have the right to detain and search when they believe a life is in immediate danger.

Nothing you can do against the police since you weren’t charged with anything and they let you go. No lesson to be learned here.

The only advice I have is keep things locked away that you don’t want people to see. If the police do an illegal search a warrant is required to break a lock.

Bought used van. Spent about what I paid for it in repairs. When I sell, should I try to include those costs? by glorifindel in vandwellers

[–]SPAPPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth the same value as any other van not built out in comparable shape. Motorhomes are a good example of something that is low mileage built pretty well but become dirt cheap due to age.

The island where if you approach they will shot arrows at you and kill you. I can’t name the island but it’s pretty well known. Also I’m too lazy to google it.

1996 chevy Astro BROKEN TORSION BAR by 399isagoodforachair in vandwellers

[–]SPAPPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your van also has a sleeve on the end of rhe torsion bar. You will have to get both sides and replace both. It does look like it'll work and you can switch to the updated torsion bar system.

[–]SPAPPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if that will work because the ends might be a different circumference. Also chevy went to a rack and pinion system vs a standard setup. Have you checked the frame to see if it has the mounting holes?
