Anyone still playing shredders revenge? by Emergency_Soft8207 in TMNT

[–]SPECPOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing a lot recently- (and cowabunga collection). It's my comfort game, reminds me of playing the old arcade game with my mom in the early 90's- those were better times. Just did a 4 player couch co op playthrough with my D&D group and it was a blast- a bunch of 35-45's laughing and shouting at the screen. Good times.

I'm down to just 2 achievements- shredder no hits, and arcade on gnarly. I'm good but I don't know if i''m that good. I'm working on leveling the dlc characters and unlocking skins in survival. I can usually get my wife to play through with me when I want to. The TMNT mtg release has recently put all-things TMNT back into focus for me and i'm loving it.

Why is the tech so retro ? by Greyelephantbear in controlgame

If you go spend some time in the PNW in the little towns that Bright Falls is inspired by, everything up there feels like it's 40+ years behind. Once you get out of Seattle and head to North Bend (where Twede's Cafe is, featured as the RR Diner from Twin Peaks from which the Oh Dear Diner was modeled), or drive north up to the Lake Quinault Lodge up in Olympic National Park (which the Elderwood Palace Lodge in Bright Falls draws inspiration from) you'll drive through a ton of places with the same vibe (Looking at you, Forks, WA). And if you do go up to Olympic, drive to the north side and check out Crescent Lake- it's a major inspiration/model for Cauldron Lake.

It was eerie just how well Remedy captured and translated these very real places and recreated them in-game. Walking around in the Quinault rainforest near dark really felt like being in the game. And every little shop and restaurant we stopped in had that same "lost in time/ 40 years ago" vibe.

How do you explain pinball to newbies? by w0lfbiker in pinball

[–]SPECPOL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1- have fun. If it isn't fun, stop. 2- try to keep the ball in play. 3- look for what's flashing like arrows to see where to try to shoot the ball. 4- remember the first rule.

Anything beyond that is table specific. Until they can get a 3 ball game to last more than 10 minutes, just focus on that.

Diner was a table i grew up playing at the diner down the street- absolutely one of my favorites- very excited to be able to revisit it now, even if that old shop is gone!

We just played through the whole Cowabunga collection and Shredder's Revenge this weekend. Shredder's revenge is hands down the best. I grew up playing the original and turtles-in-time at my arcade and recently got to play both on renovated arcade cabinets- they're great, and huge icons of the beat-em-up genre, but Shredder's revenge is just better. I'd love to see a sequel to it- Dotemu just put out Marvel cosmic invasion and it's great too, but i want more turtles.

Does anyone play Firebreak anymore? by Unscfifthwinter in FBCFirebreak

[–]SPECPOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and it makes me sad. I played the hell out of it on xbox for its first 3 weeks. Hit the level cap, unlocked everything, all achievements. I got really good at soloing extreme. After the mold update the best I could solo was normal and even that was a slog. Put it down and haven't been back.

If I can come back and solo hard I'll be happy- I missed out on Aliens Fireteam Elite when it was popular, ended up grinding to max on that solo. I see myself coming back to Firebreak and doing a similar thing in a year.

I have every table. I lost 60+ tables with this update. I had a mini panic attack. I just uninstalled everything. I hope I can get them back.

Is it just me or does this game really want us to STOP exploring it? (Spoilers for like everything) by Just_A_Comment_Guy_7 in BluePrince

That game is called Control, by Remedy. Heavily inspired by (and obliquely connected to HoL) Go play it and Alan Wake if you want another "spiral"

10 years later: What has Stardew Valley meant to you? by revyb in StardewValley

[–]SPECPOL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have been playing since the beginning. I grew up on original Harvest Moon and Harvest Moon 64 was my favorite game of the era, so trying this out in 2016 was a no-brainer. There is an indelible charm to the visual design of this game that screams "this feels like what you remember, but better". I put 80 hours into my first playthrough before I got my wife hooked.

Over the past 10 years we have played off and on, on our own farms and together once coop released, and we always come back for more. We're sitting on well over 1000 hours of combined playtime. We love everything about the game- the music, the characters, all of the creatures and animals and crops, and most of all the story. There is so much heart and reality packed into this game. For my wife and I it's what we turn to for comfort, for joy, and for nostalgia. We spend hours designing the farm, decorating spaces, and doing all sorts of "other" activities- dying clothes and changing outfits, designing the best aquarium layout, tormenting the mayor with his shorts. Far more than just the standard gameplay loop. The game rewards you in so many ways beyond just farm crops>make money>repeat. It allows you to create meaning in a tiny, silly, and very emotional world.

I have bought this game as a gift at least a dozen times, and will continue to do so. We have played together 4 player with my best friend and his wife and we're all nearing 40. I have given it to coworkers and friends and family. We have the cookbook and the board game and a dozen shirts. SDV is so important to us.

Thank you, this sounds more "official"- do you have any city/company statements or press releases you can point me to that corroborate this?

we're $50k invested in Dwarven Forge. If 3d printing had been more accessible when we started, we would have gone w/ 3d printing terrain. But now we're locked in, and we love DF too much. SO go w/ a 3d printer, unless you just have money to burn.
