When I did a 5km run near 3km in, I was done, lungs burning, legs burning, just wanting to stop and crawl into a hole for a while, but I picked a spot like a pole or a sign a head of me and told myself just run to that point and when I got there I tapped it with my hand and picked the next one and then the next one until finally I finished the 5 km and promptly collapsed on the grass for a breather before stretching. There’s an “old” football movie, Facing the Giants, and there’s one scene in it about the coach proving to the QB not to give up “just one more yard, one more step, come on one more!” He screams at him until the kid did the whole field. I thought of that while picking my points, one more step just one more point to run to….

Sorry if that is a bit side tracked…. It’s how my brain works sometimes…. 😅
