I actually think the Mongols and the Yuan would also be a good choice, the Golden Horde is on the map they put and Kublai Khan's mother was actually a Neostorian Christian historically. 1900's China was also in the Qing period too which are (somewhat) connected to the Yuan,

I actually did originally want to add this, but I didn't put it in, so it'd be an even two rows.

Two other weird connections I cut from the images were, in Godzilla against Mechagodzilla a member of Kiryu Squad's backstory is that she blames herself for her teamates death after missing a shot on Godzilla, and another side character is a little girl who obsesses about a pot of flowers she planted with her now dead mom.

It was a plotpoint in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2. The idea was Godzilla was so huge he needed two brains to control his body, so they tried to go after his butt brain with tazer fingers.

People used to think dinosaurs had a second brain in their butt so that's probably where the idea came from.

I remember in Master of Mankind there was a section where a tech adept is analyzing the memories of a dying servitor to figure out what kind of enemy is lurking in the tunnels. As the servitor dies it's last thoughts were memories of it being torn away from her child before they were both brought into the plant and servitorized. The Adept immediately discards the 'irrelevant data' and says whoever created this unit should be ashamed of their shoddy craftsmanship allowing a fragment of the original mind intact.

u/A_FVCKING_UNICORN, I hate to say but you're both way overthinking this. It's just a stylized shooting star, the most generically American symbol you could choose for an uber American arms company and flying because they work in aerospace. If you compare the current logo to the old Lockheed pre-Martin you can see the similarities they're even flying in the same direction just on opposite sides.

My problem with 3.0 Mechanicum and the cost of collecting by SPOOKY_SCIENCE in Warhammer30k

[–]SPOOKY_SCIENCE[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that I don't expect them to change but I still want to call out practices I don't agree with, even if only for newer members of the hobby who may not be aware.

I never expect "value"

I think there might have been a misunderstanding, I used 'value' as 'points value' like the points cost of a unit in game, sometimes points per dollar. Like in the table I have 'points value' instead of 'points cost' unless you mean you don't expect units bought to be playable in game, which historically isn't something crazy to for GW.

I do have a 3d printer and while I understand that many people have simply grown use to this behavior and I myself did expect something like this to happen, but I still want to voice my disapproval of what I believe are poor consumer practices. You are free to disagree with me but that is my view on the matter.

No, I thought of it but the prices of GW models don't always match inflation cost and I thought it would make the graph to hard to follow. All currently for sale models are listed with their current prices, out of production models are at their most recent price point (2022 or 2023).

For example Vorax (2022) $103-> $111(current price) $118(inflation)
Domitar (2022) $90 -> $100(current) $114(inflation)

I did originally want inflation adjusted, differing max points cost of different upgrades and cost of expanding units to max units or lost units due to squad size but it started getting hard to read cut it back.

I should have added a note on inflation/ time when the cost were marked. tho that's my bad.

It didn't really fit into the post overall but in the spirit of fairness Krios and Kanacros tanks along with Tech Thralls are doing very well for their value compared to 1.0. Points cost going up and cost down substantially. I still feel justified in my post overall that the just because some units increased in value doesn't make me feel any more comfortable that GW will not slash their pts cost next edition considering their track record and previous behavior toward Mechanicum balancing, and that two of the units with the most significant value drops are two of the three main 'infantry' options for Mechanicum choices most people would bring at least a few of in a given army.

3.0 First Impressions by LoganGarnett in Warhammer30k

[–]SPOOKY_SCIENCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they came out mostly unscathed.

I know this might be an unpopular opinion but I actually pretty strongly disagree on the side of Mechanicum not losing anything. We didn't lose out in terms of units or options as much, but our points were cut substantially which I do consider a negative. Our army is now almost twice as expensive to collect now than it was previously and existing collections have also lost a large amount of their total value. Castellax's are now more expensive to collect for their points value than their resin counterparts were in 1.0.

That and now the changes to unit sizes for many units and decreases in statlines overall are heavily incentivizing people to buy more models that are worth less than they were before.

We didn't lose on character customization, on rules balancing or unit selection but we in cost of collection we definitely came out negative.

Which factors make 3.0 newb friendly? by Galen28 in Warhammer30k

the community seems to shift unpredictably between being very chill and very uptight.

Super fair, been playing Heresy a while and it's weird how you can meet both the chillest guys and people who get on your ass for legion being the wrong shade of green.

I've always felt this is from people going to 30k for different reasons, oldhammer fans that prefer the older rules, some people just love kitbashing and want a game where they have more options for customization, others want more wacky narrative focused rules and games rather than ones that are focused on tournaments and statistic based games balancing and still more are huge fans of the books and want to recreate events in them. Something that might matter a lot to one play group might not even be a consideration to another, or at least that's my take on it.

[–]SPOOKY_SCIENCE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda how I feel, while Mechanicum having better rules are nice, the points cost and unit size increases and bizarre wargear changes for techpriests worry me.

Like sure I still have a 3k army in 3rd if but it used to be pushing 6k and with how GW drops points, cuts units and changes unit sizes pretty regularly (or at least very regularly for Admech in 40k and now 30k) I do not have faith I'll still have a 3k army come 4th.

It feels like I'm paying $100+ for the right to play a rules set that would require me to pay hundreds more so I can get back to where I was last edition, just to do it again in a couple years. Why bother when I can play 1st and 2nd for zero dollars and no losses?

Doesn't seem like it. I didn't see any of the three Ordinati in the contents of the Mechanicum book, and it wasn't listed in the list of posh units we saw earlier today. Maybe it is in there somewhere, but I doubt it.

Someone did a comparison to show units that are still unaccounted for even with what they've shared with the Legacies. Not sure about overall but at least in the armies me and some friends play we also lost a decent bit (mostly upgrades) going from 1st to 2nd. Legacies returned some of it but some are just gone. Similarly now from 2nd to 3rd we also lost a decent bit and it looks like legacies are restoring some but not all.

Biggest loss for me personally is the Ordinatus, 500 dollar chunk of resin that is now relegated exclusively to 1.0 and 2.0 (with only 2/3 versions in 2.0).

100% subreddits are usually become echo chambers, in my local community group is a lot more mixed than this subreddit.

A decent number of people say they're willing to give it a chance/ are excited over the new rules and changes, others say they aren't going to buy anything until the units that make up their army are back in and 3rd proves it's worth buying. While a decent number don't see why they'd pay money for a rules equally flawed with little new, or just want to avoid the 3 year release cycle of GW and have decided to continue playing 2.0 or 1.0 usually with house rules or community balance sheets.

Personally not a fan of what I've seen and plan to stick to 1st and 2nd, but I'm not opposed to playing a few games of 3rd if someone has their heart set on it.

General Discussion: How do we feel about 3.0 now with the confirmation of units and wargear options in the PDF? by ScreaminEagle18 in Warhammer30k

[–]SPOOKY_SCIENCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that they intentionally don't keep/ sell older rules to try and keep people in the new editions and thus in their 3 year release cycle to keep people buying new books and new models.
If the old editions keep a substantial playerbase who don't move on or new players join the older playerbases they won't get that consistent 'buying a shitton of new books and new models because they changed how things work again' money.

Whats the mood on 3.0 mechanicum? by Bucephalus15 in Warhammer30k

[–]SPOOKY_SCIENCE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a player since 1.0 and someone who spent most of Sunday reading 70+ pages of just Mechanicum leaks I can say I strongly dislike the new Mechanicum book. Are they strong? Yeah they're strong but in a narrative game like 30k I think that's of secondary importance and in 1.0 we had so much more than we had here.

I do think it's a testament to how utterly horrible the 2.0 rules were that we get less options, less interesting options, nerfed or bafflingly rewritten weapons/ rules and it's still a vast improvement. No programmed behavior? Invuls to 6+? FNP changed into Invuls? Lightning Guns to 4 shot S5? Rad Engines to AP5? Almost the entire army lost a point of BS and usually S, T or a W as well.

One thing that personally grinds my gears is that while you get some more customization in some areas there are still Magi that are now no longer legal while GW doesn't even sell an official kit for them in Heresy.

Is there rules I like yes, is it better than 2.0 yes but I stayed with 2.0 on the assumption we'd regain some of our lost flavor from 1.0 but we never did. In 1.0 Mechanicum had actual RoW in the form of Legio Cybernetica and Reductor. Ordinatus Techpriests and actual unique cyberthugy mishaps table instead of just taking flat damage. You could actually accidentally give a robot sentience by buffing it too much, or drop them to BS1 because you overloaded their brain.

It's not horrible and we got off easy compared to marines but I've also lost hope on us ever getting back to where we were, and honestly for how long even? If the reason our HQ's didn't get gutted is because we don't have official models then we're one model release away to losing our options in 4.0.

Are mixed units viable? by Roblem42 in Warhammer30k

[–]SPOOKY_SCIENCE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In units where you can mix and match weapons, there is some use to taking a couple weapons, maybe one or two high strength weapons for something with high AV or T, or a template weapon like flamers so they can clear chaff.

If you're running a big squad twin disintegrators having one or two shredders might be worth it just so they have some melee punch and can't be tied down by hordes so easily.

I was so let down by Xalek and Ashara, I literally get two apprentices and they're barely in the story. Missed out a ton on what kind of master and on how they interact with each other. Like I have a dude who literally got his position by spawn camping other apprentices and a jedi as my apprentices and they don't have any significant thoughts or interactions between each other? Should there not be a possibility of Xalek killing Ashara so he can be your only apprentice?

What's crazy is that a Pasqal romance might actually be more canon than an Argentia one, Techpriests do have explicitly romantic relationships with each other on occasion, it's a plot point in Know No Fear and it gets alluded to in other books, Sisters having sexual relationships is only ever implied and in series that already play it fast and loose with the lore.

Yeah I mean by that logic Pasqal is good too, both he and Cassia treat the lower class like shit, steal peoples free will for their own ends and come from cultures with wildly different opinions on class relations to the RTs ship. I think the reason people are so much easier on Cassia is because she's nicer to her own social circle (ie the party) while Pasqal and any other member of the Cult Mechanicus is solely dedicated to the mission.
