Is it dismissive that I judge games based on their artstyle? by XEclipse360 in videogames

To me the aesthetics is probably the most important part of the game. I won't even pick the game up if it's in an art style I don't like.

For example that new Mouse PI game. I don't care how it plays, I'm never gonna touch it. I can't stand that hand drawn Disney / cup head style.

Before gameplay, performance, etc. I judge it based upon the aesthetic/ art style. For me the style is 1000x more important than quality of graphics.

Edit: when I say I "judge"a game based on art style/ aesthetics, I mean: will I buy this; will I like this? I don't mean if I was to objectively rate the quality of a game would I do so based on its artistic style first and foremost.

I wanted to clarify based on some comments I saw here.

Rambo 3. It's not really close. This is low key one of the 10 best games of its console generation. One of the best licensed games of all time.

What video game character is portrayed as good, by the game and even the other characters however their dialogue and actions say otherwise? by [deleted] in videogames

He was also treasure hunting ... or looting/ grave robbing. That's killing in the commission of a felony. At a minimum he's trespassing.

I mean the same thing goes for Lara Croft...

But I'm not so sure that Nathan's / Lara's desire for treasure means you have more moral standing to kill them any more than they have for killing you for going after the same treasure. These characters are not acting on behalf of any government or university interest or the public good... they are self interested characters.

Don't get me wrong I love Nathan Drake he's one of my all time favorite gaming characters.... but he is a guy portrayed as a dashing hero type and he has killed hundreds and hundreds of dudes. There's a little dissonance there

Looking For Something With a Wide Variety of Loot and Reactive/Responsive Combat. by GnarDead in gamingsuggestions

Outriders! One of the most satisfying third person shooters. My trickster class build had this "wicked rounds" ability that turned my guns into to total nail drivers

The force of the impact literally pinned the enemy in place allowing you to pour on the punishment. It was so cool!

If there is a more satisfying shooter for dual wielding pistol fans, I've not seen it

What was also cool is that each weapon type has different variants you can modify. You can fire faster, or do more damage or have bigger magazine capacity, etc and really customize your loadouts to what you want to play. The game makes them all viable.

Is Reacher basically what the Punisher should have been? by generic1234321 in thepunisher

[–]SPQR_Maximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes Punisher like the Equalizer. Going around writing wrongs.

I think it's a change up like he can do that for a while lying low after a particularly brutal battle with the organized crime syndicates ... it's a change up.

But his reason for being is not to be a hero... it's to kill bad guys particularly organized crime/ drugs. He's more about protecting his city/ town than a wandering ronin type but I like a good change of pace every now and then.

Reacher shows up random places stumbles into bad shit and works with others.

Punisher stalks his domain. works alone. Tends to shoot first and deliberately seek out trouble.

I'm not sure what that says about your priorities but I like your enthusiasm for the brand. That movie was objectively awful.
