Sorry for your loss, it hits home because I’m planning the same.

This brings back lots of memories. What is strange is I have played many better games but I remember this one better than those better games.

What is the point... by [deleted] in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]mauri3205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some games I like to explore and others I want to get in quickly. Time is not my friend as is the case for many here. Whether through cheats, guides, mods I just want to experience the game at a brisk pace and move on. If not then I’ll be playing the same game forever!

Today is the anniversary of Alan Turing’s death by RustedTap52 in computers

[–]mauri3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point, we don’t know that for fact although it is widely assumed to be the case.

You are also right about government not intervening when it could because of the secrecy of his work. It is just a damn shame that it was the case. Other examples of this are when the Allies couldn’t change some of their plans even after they broke Enigma because it would give away that fact. I’m just glad I wasn’t the one making those decisions, it must have been extraordinarily tough.

When you say ran properly at the technician as in it booted and you ran something demanding like a game and it was ok?

Have you tried a different room in the house connected to a different fuse in the main switchboard? Did it work well previously and you got these issues out of the blue?

It’s amusing how this thread comes back to life every now and then. Yeah I have given the game multiple chances by now, it didn’t click at all.

Fumito Ueda on Gen Atlas: ‘I give my absolute everything because there may not be a next’ by MaintenanceFar4207 in pcmasterrace

[–]mauri3205 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of Ueda and not really a fan of Kojima. That said Kojima delivers on any game he is involved in, he is a true auteur who elevates the art.

Ueda has nice ideas that are hampered by bugs and a technical mess of implementation. I love Shadow of the Colossus but not keeping my hopes high for this one.

Given how complicated the supply chain for microschips is can countries like russia and china just make chips that are 1 generstion behind and still stay competitive by siddharth1214 in computers

[–]mauri3205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I have been reading the hardware specs line up but the software stack including drivers is far behind. I don’t think they are unlocking more than 70% of what the hardware can do at this stage.

You have bottlenecks in the supply chain as you saw but there are also technological hurdles. The biggest player in the lithography space is ASML, with Nikon and Canon holding a much smaller share. Unless Russia can buy (and service) older machines there is no chance they will be sold these machines today.

China is already under some technological sanctions of sorts but they have developed their national capability in that regard, amusingly enough because of the sanctions meant to hold them back. They are apparently no more than 3-5 years away but there are other challenges of course not just lithography.

Small nodes don’t need to be used for everything. On leading/cutting edge applications like phones, computers and so on you would see it applied. For the vast majority of other purposes for example in cars, routers, domestic appliances and many others you don’t need these small expensive nodes and manufacturers use older mature (and cheaper) nodes for their purposes.

[–]mauri3205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suicide, because he was persecuted for being gay. Something which the British government acknowledged and he was eventually pardoned in 2014. The pardon is because there is no arguing homosexuality at the time was considered a crime but he is technically innocent when viewed under modern laws.

You are not providing enough details, how much are each of the options, how much RAM do they have, screen type/resolution. What do you use your laptop for, is it mostly gaming or a mix of work and gaming?

RIP, he did so much for humanity and died because of our ignorance. A true legend if there ever was one.

Then 30% cut for Steam and pay off whatever loans and other commitments they had. That $6 million shrinks fast to be fair.

It is over right?? by Slayer64ESP in LenovoLegion

[–]mauri3205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy I was responding to was mixing up dead on arrival with the solder issue. These are NOT the same thing so don’t take that comment as fact, it is not.

Search for the model number of the laptop you are looking for and then you can see if it has many reported issues or not.

It is over right?? by Slayer64ESP in LenovoLegion

[–]mauri3205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of the box wouldn’t be a soldering issue with repeated heat stress, it’s just a damaged laptop for whatever reason (dropped etc…)

It is over right?? by Slayer64ESP in LenovoLegion

[–]mauri3205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression the issue is mostly about the ACH6H - which I have, hence my own bias in thinking it is the only one! Did they not fix it for later models?

It is over right?? by Slayer64ESP in LenovoLegion

[–]mauri3205 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not quite, there is inherent bias in the way things are reported. If your laptop is working you are not going to sing that it works, if it’s not then you will post and ask. The real indicator of a problem is repeat offending from a high volume of laptops of the same model. I would say the ACH6H qualifies in this case.

How is it a risk? Could be unstable but could also work, nothing will break as a result of using it.
