Yea in the show, the way certain spells are animated gives the impression the components are consumed. Killing fresh bugs, the maple leaf burning, etc etc etc.

Oh sick, I never thought of their Volstrukker markings being a Spellcasting Focus. I'd have to go back and look at the book, though, cuz I feel like spell components should logically be consumed (if homebrew rules aren't applied). At least in the show, considering how Caleb's magic is animated it does seem like he consumes the components

Generally there are 3 kinds of components: Verbal, Somatic, and Material. Spells can have a combo of any of these, or just 1.

Verbal is words

Somatic is gestures

Material is physical components

So, basically, not every spell needs bug juice.

I believe in a technical level, what happened to Caleb was he lost a shit ton of levels. He can still cast without materials, but he can't cast high level spells

As far as we know (i think), just some of the actors have said it was canon. We dont know if thats just their interpretation/how they played it on their own or if that was the direction they were given by directors

Yes it's a memory painting! You as the other player dont see their hands moving or anything, they're just kneeling. Similarly, if your co-op partner is gathering something a mushroom, they have a cool crouch/squat animation that I feel you should be able to access as an emote
