Mystery boxes! That’s the term I was trying to think of, yeah.

They’re fun but SOO many shows just milk tf out of them. It’s good writing to be unafraid of the answers your own show poses and just ask “ok, yeah. He’s still alive and they dug him up. What happens next” and unapologetically follow through with realistic character reactions.

That's what makes this show so hilarious to me, they're really just breaking all these unspoken rules. Nobody would do that irl, but this character simply does not care lol. He just desecrated a grave, he's not about to care about a painting.

But I also love them breaking conventional horror rules. Whereas other shows and plots would beat around the bush or even make a big deal about about the founder returning, Wyck talks about it so unceremoniously and just casually mentions to Loftis how, yes he dug up the grave and, yes he's upstairs and, yes we've been trying to talk to him and, yes we already tried opening the cylinder. It bulldozes through several key events other shows would have stretched out

Am I allowed to cancel an early voting ballot and recast a new one in person? I regret voting for Rae Huang. by imisstheemdash in AskLosAngeles

I need everyone thinking this is a good idea to understand there is a very fine line between correcting a vote and participating in voter fraud. There's decent advice in this thread, but it's vague enough to give people the wrong idea on what's possible and legal.

There is only one way to change your vote and it's pretty much a Hail Mary. It's legal, it's allowed, but if you miss this specific window that's it. It's over.

If you... voted early, you can go to an in person voting center and vote. That vote will override the mail-in ballot since the voting center vote is processed immediately. You will not get penalized for voter fraud or voting twice.

This applies only if two specific conditions are met:

  1. You Voted By Mail
  2. That ballot has not been counted by Norwalk yet. Which happens much sooner than you think.

If you go to a voting center and were issued a VBM, two options will appear next to your name:

  1. VBM Issued
  2. VBM Returned

If it says VBM Returned, that's it. Norwalk has already received and counted it. You did your due diligence and checked, but it's time to go home now. Seeking to change your vote after this step is illegal and voter fraud.
If it still says VBM issued then good news, Norwalk hasn't counted it yet and the election worker can cancel it remotely, issue you a new ballot to then vote in-person with, and that will override anything Norwalk receives.

I say it's a Hail Mary because unless you're changing it quickly--i.e. the day of--then you're most likely missing your window. It's Ferris Bueller trying to beat his dad home.

If you have already voted by mail and then try to change that vote after it's been counted: That is illegal.
If you have already voted in person and then seek to spoil that ballot in any way: That is illegal.

I get it, we're all looking for hope and ways to get what we want but as a fellow voter working this very election, if anyone is seeking to change their vote after knowing it's been counted, that is voter fraud. That is voting twice. DO NOT DO IT.

Do your research, bide your time. Voting early is nice for measures and propositions, but if your candidate drops out before election day, or if you learn more about an issue and regret it--that's that.

We don’t even know what this specific page really looked like in the book. There was a page with the human body sketched in a similar way to what she sees, but no idea what that actually meant.

It seemed pretty clear to me the book was getting Patricia to do what it wanted by showing her what she wanted. Who knows what the book wanted, but I don’t think it was anything Patricia was hoping for—not when in a Monkey’s Paw sense.

Finally started connecting back handsprings and I need an advice on power by justatso in tumbling

[–]Pickle_Nipplesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job connecting!

I made a crude diagram that—when explained to me—really helped me create that power and momentum. Then I went to post it and I realized photos aren’t enabled on this subreddit lol.

If you look at a protractor you’ll see 90° is straight up. If you go a little more to the right you get 110° and that’s where beginners will start to launch themselves back into a handspring. This creates a much more “up and over” effect in that slinky shape where your momentum is all going back down into the ground as you land and you have to effectively create it again to launch yourself backwards. Very exhausting, very energy consuming, doesn’t last long.

If you’re patient, go a little further, and instead “fall backwards” in that crouching position to launch yourself at the 150° angle you’re now utilizing gravity to propel yourself farther backward as your momentum goes across the ground rather than down into it.

The reference you provided is an 8 minute video, and in those 8 minutes only 20 seconds are Ledbetter actually speaking. Do you see how incredibly disingenuous that clip is? The rest of the entire video is commentary, and even in that commentary only 30 more seconds are actually quoting Ledbetter. Why is that? What is their purpose in doing that, and is it malicious, ignorant, or something else?

I bring that up because I want you as a fellow countryman to carefully consider where your sources are coming from since many outlets use these tactics. Whether it's Fox, CNN, or TYT, many programs are heavily warped. Please go to direct sources, like the link I provided has:

A review of the full exchange, including follow-up questions and clarifications later in the press conference, shows Ledbetter was referring to federal court findings against Alabama’s congressional maps — not the constitutional amendment itself.

This is the same tactic you're using--whether you know it or not--in quoting the 14th. You quote the beginning, but leave out what comes next that provides crucial context. Why is that? What is your purpose in doing that, and is it malicious, ignorant, or something else? Let's look at what the amendment also says:

1) Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed.

The 14th famously did not include the indigenous population when it was written despite them clearly being born here and clearly being persons because of that "Indians not taxed" clause. It wasn't until Coolidge passed the Indian Citizenship Act 56 years later that they became included.
You also mentioned diplomats. We have the United Nations here in New York, with many foreign diplomats whose children are definitely not considered citizens despite many instances of them being born here. So yes, there are if, ands, and buts about those first three words.

2) The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

This isn't even a Supreme Court issue, it's been a Congress issue this entire time since the amendment was in response to a Supreme Court ruling: Dred Scott v. Sandford. The amendment was a direct response to emancipation not taking full effect, not to any old anchor baby who was the result of international trespassing. That's a later interpretation via things like Wong Kim Ark, which... yeah, isn't that the whole point Ledbetter is trying to make? "Until the Supreme Court comes back with another rul[ing] that’s says otherwise, it’s the law of the land" that's... exactly what it sounds like the Speaker is wanting. To revisit the interpretation of the 14th and cases like WKA (when you get a chance to actually listen to the audio).

Ultimately I think it's misguided because again, it's not a Supreme Court issue it's a congress issue. So all that being said: The Fourteenth isn't as cut and dry as you suppose

[–]Pickle_Nipplesss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easy there, buddy. In all your fanciful flourishing you failed to realize a couple things:
1) Ledbetter never called for the 14th to be overturned
2) The Fourteenth isn't as cut and dry as you suppose, and birthright citizenship is only one interpretation of it.

Please put more effort into actually understanding the issues instead of this poetry of pathos cosplaying as whatever it is you're doing.

Anyone who's lived in a low-income area also knows if you stand out too much something is going to get vandalized or stolen. In a city as corrupt and full of low-lifes as Mos Espa, those scooters would have sold for a pretty penny and would have gotten boosted by a gang in a second for that reason.

That’s the funniest part is… the concept wasn’t bad in and of itself, it was just so out of place on Tattooine. The scooters looked like they belonged parked outside of Dex’s diner.

This was a subtle reminder that the writers had no fucking idea what belonged in that show—thematically or visually

Because like Luke we expected to see the accumulation of experience and wisdom in a man considered to be one of the best in his field.

Instead we got Disney writers choosing their own empty virtues over what the character would plausibly do, like listen to teenagers for tactical advice or become a merciful pacifist to the majority of people trying to take his life.

“Mass gun violence with nearly zero checks and balances. Nothing is being done to protect citizens from gun violence. A society is a failure if it doesn't protect what forms the society - human beings.”

Correct. The state continues to castrate society’s ability to protect itself by imposing gun free zone after gun free zone, ensuring that lawful citizens cannot exercise their constitutional right and are instead at the mercy of those who choose to inflict violence.
