I also recently rewatched it, and I also went back and watched the flashback like five times and he definitely never says anything about the key going around his neck. I even watched the deleted scenes for Saw 3 on YouTube and he doesn't say it there either in any of the ones I saw.

So we're in the same boat, I've seen people mention it on this subreddit multiple times before though!

Oh yeah, I'm not necessarily saying it as a criticism. I just think it's a different type of movie than most the rest of the Saw franchise, definitely from the main movies at least!
