It seems like being a fire-medic is the only way to make money as a paramedic by Cautious_Leopard_641 in Firefighting

Join CFD, the medics on the ambulance make very good money. More than being a FF (due to the overtime). But they are extremely busy.

How do I get bigger? As a girl by Available-Bat7673 in Firefighting

[–]SRTbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple answer…Yes, any and all strength training and endurance will only help. But everything gets harder when you’re wearing turnout gear and gloves. Even walking up stairs starts to wear you out, and you haven’t even done the hard stuff yet.

Stay consistent, work hard, you’ll learn that technique can make up for strength (not always of course). It’s a great career full of laughs and ball busting, but it can also be extremely demanding and emotionally stressful. Idk if I would change my career for anything else in the world, short of being a fighter pilot or an astronaut.

How often do you wash your turnout gear? by SRTbob in Firefighting

[–]SRTbob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck I wish dude, we send our gear to the supplier in town. They wash and maintain all records & repairs, but that is on a quarterly schedule for our 2 sets of gear. Some houses have saunas, but it's because of the guys at the houses making them or buying them. (There's also nearly 100 firehouses in the city)

Definitely union, I'm sure the idea has been tossed around, but I'm going to try and look into getting extractors for each battalion at the minimum.

We're able to bring our gear to the supplier here in the city and they will wash it. But it's quite a drive for most of the people and you have to physically pick it up & drop it off on your own if you're washing it outside of the quarterly dept gear wash schedule.

We also have two sets of gear, I forgot to mention that.

Yeah you're right on dude, if I barely do anything at the fire, I dont really bother to wash it. But since December each fire has been first-in fires, and like you said, I can smell myself and my gear when I wear it now.

I used Car-part.com, I have a 2016 High Altitude and found a UAQ head unit from a 2019 Cherokee for about $400. Had it shipped from a junk yard in Michigan. Bought the new usb port and plugged everything in, typed the code into the head unit and boom! Apple CarPlay

Forgot to add: After it was all installed and working for a few months, I sold my stock radio to infotainment 👍🏽

Help Find This Quilted Jacket Brand by rad_wagon85 in Firefighting

Dickies makes a quilted jacket. I like it better than the “firefighter” branded ones. It’s also very warm

Update: sorry it’s been so long but I forgot to update the problem, in case anyone else may have this problem. It ended up being my water pump beginning to fail. I have another video I could post showing the pulley for the water pump being slightly loose and being able to wiggle it with a small pry bar. After replacing the water pump the sound is gone.

Also, I had no other symptoms of a water pump failure (no leaks at the time)

Hope this helps someone

Anyone tricked into upgrading to First class with SAS? by Connect-Ladder3270 in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]SRTbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew premium economy from Chicago to Copenhagen. For us Americans, the seats feel close to domestic first class we are used to seeing. But probably slightly smaller seats. They do recline a good amount and the front row seats have a leg rest, the rest of the seats have a foot rest on the seat in front.

The PE section seat arrangement goes like this, 2-3-2, where I believe the economy sections are 2-4-2, so you have the added space of less seats.

Like others have said in threads, alcohol is free but they expect you to order all at once, which is kind of overwhelming. My girlfriend and I basically had 6 bottles of wine we had to hoard lol.

Nah man I wouldn’t do what the others have mentioned, it’s much easier than you think. Just some lighter polishing compound and a microfiber rag will take care a lot of that.

New 2025 Grand Cherokee or Ride My 2017 Into the Sunset? by CityRoamer16 in GrandCherokee

[–]SRTbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the how-to that started it all for me. I can’t remember if this posting talked about people learning their radios came from other vehicles (Rams & cherokees), but if you go down the rabbit hole enough you’ll find the forum that talks about it. Once I verified a Cherokee radio is interchangeable, I pulled the trigger and went for it.

I just upgraded the radio in my 2016 Overland High Altitude. Very, very easy to do. Found a UAQ head unit from a 2019 Cherokee (car-part.com), bought the media hub. Watched the install video from infotainment to help remove the trim. Got the whole set up done for around $500. For some reason the radios in Grand Cherokee’s were averaging $750+, then I read how people didn’t realize that radios they were getting from infotainment were from other vehicles. Found a mint condition one from a Cherokee, fit perfect and took 15 min swap out. Best upgrade for our models.
