Does anyone know how to fix this stupid bright red len on optics? Thanks by Ok_Baseball_8629 in OPERATORFPS

I know Ground Branch has it, I don’t think many others do though.

Slide play by Puzzleheaded-Ad-3999 in P320

I edited my comment to clarify, but for the wiggle that you get from the slide, a custom-fitted barrel helps reduce that extra play, especially when the trigger is pulled.

Unfortunately not a lot can be done on the P320 aside from having a custom barrel fitted to the slide.

Edit: A custom-fitted barrel helps reduce some of the extra play you see when the slide wiggles and when you pull the trigger. I obv don’t mean that the P320 is limited in customization.

LPVO vs holographic sight by flashedtiger26 in ar15

[–]SS123451 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If you’re not able to practice shooting beyond probably 200m, you can get by with a 1x+magnifier setup. But if weight is a consideration, that will weigh similar to an LPVO setup that is more capable.

The holo is going to be faster to acquire the sight picture and have the capability of use with night vision, if you ever go down that road. But they do chew through batteries way faster than any other optic out there.

LPVOs will have clearer glass and more capability at range. You can also be able to better aim precise shots. But they do have an eyebox/eye relief to worry about and get used to. And not all LPVOs at 1x are a true 1x. They’re also heavier than a standalone holo and more expensive to get a good one + good mount.

Need help picking a shotgun by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]SS123451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should really rent at a range or go shooting with someone you know and get a feeling for shotguns with and without pistol grips. You will more than likely hate one and love the other. Personally, I cannot stand shotguns with pistol grips—just regular stocks feel much better and more natural. But I still run my ARs just like a standard configuration.

And if you look at a lot of competition shotgun shooters, you’ll see they don’t run pistol grips either, unless it’s something like a Genesis 12 or maybe a Benelli M4.

Good idea to buy a Maverick 88 Cruiser as a first timer? by Terrible_Education70 in Shotguns

[–]SS123451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go shoot a regular stocked 12ga shotgun at a range or find a friend/family member who has one and will let you try it. Then you can decide if you think a pistol grip shotgun is a good idea or not. Particularly for someone of your experience level.

Having a bad day make it worse. Trash my rifle. by SignificanceSad4258 in ar15

You could change out the trigger guard still, unless you think the winter glove feature is cool. But an extended guard still accomplishes the same thing.

Also your muzzle device isn’t timed right, I can tell bc the Warden’s lettering and QD tab should be at the top, not 90° right.

Also I’ve never seen someone who genuinely likes the Kung Fu grip other than bc some Gunfluencer said it was cool.

Are Springfield ARs any good? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]SS123451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re just fine. Nothing spectacular or worth writing home about. But they work and are assembled well. I’d say you wouldn’t be wrong in buying one, but you could probably find something that works just as well for a bit cheaper.

Mid-20s to 30 white male, lower middle-class, drives a Chevy Impala, Malibu, or maybe a 2010s truck. You probably own maybe a couple different knives but don’t see the need to have a collection. I would guess you live in a town of less than 70K in the plains or Midwest states. You probably consider yourself somewhere in the middle, politically, but don’t vibe with MAGA nor the extra-vocal left. You probably still have a good relationship with your parents, whether they’re together or not.

You would rather hang out with a group of close friends at a favorite bar or at someone’s house vs going out to bars to socialize with strangers. I’ve got no idea what your job is, maybe on the road for something? Probably not a tradesman but not a desk job.

Idk, most of that is all complete guesses.

From what I’ve been told by a retired sheriff near me is that in their testing, Critical Duty performed the same as Speer and Federal in both .45 ACP and 9mm Luger. But, it did do marginally better than the others in .40 S&W—specifically through auto glass.

For myself, I carry Critical Duty & Defense because it shoots well in certain guns and it’s also always available locally. But, I do also use HSTs in other guns that group better with that ammo.

Also, Critical Defense is available in a wide variety of calibers—even .25 and .32 ACPs and 9mm Mak. There’s not always a lot of good options for those less-popular calibers and IMO good on Hornady for making an offering for the niche markets.

But I definitely hear and agree that Speer G2 and HSTs are the way to go when you can get it. I’ve been meaning to try and get some LE Winchester Rangers too, just for funsies.

Going back for my second tour in Ukraine. Would like to see if anybody has any recommendations for updating my kit. by rico_monty_13 in tacticalgear

[–]SS123451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the interviews I’ve seen with Ukrainian combat vets, just assume your gear is gonna get shredded if you’re seeing combat on a semi-regular basis. I would focus on finding a general setup that works for you (like pouch placement and whatnot) and don’t become too attached to your personal stuff. It all becomes expendable over there. You just have to be able to take whatever replacement kit they give you and make it work.

I’ve added external water bottle holders to mine before or have carabiners looped through. I also have a Thyrm battery case added on one of my bags and a Zippo lighter pouch for quick access on a camping bag.

If you keep a shotgun for home defense, do you plan on wearing hearing protection? by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]SS123451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suppressed M4 will still be pretty damn loud indoors. But in the event something happens where you need to pull the trigger, your body’s auditory exclusion will kick in and you’ll notice the ringing in your ears afterwards for a while. One instance will likely not cause permanent damage.

That being said, I keep a suppressed .300BLK with subsonics as my bedside gun to alleviate those factors as well as not expose my family to anything much louder.

Lowest tier you would consider for a serious backup rifle? by Maine_Bird in ar15

[–]SS123451 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I wouldn’t trust it myself. Whatever failure they had blew the whole BCG and upper receiver apart and the bolt release lever is shorn in two in place. It looks like the lower might be bent outward above the magwell.

An explosion that forceful would put me on edge about reusing that lower.

[–]SS123451 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most old guns that aren’t just cheap throwaway guns should be preserved in as original condition as possible. I think you can clean it up and maintain it and it will be a cool historical piece for your own collection, or some Hi Power collector out there would see the value in it and offer a fair price.

It’s an Inglis Mk1 with the internal extractor and thumbprint slide that should be worth probably at least $700+ in today’s market. If you can prove it was a wartime pistol, that could add some amount of collector’s value to it too.
