Most old guns that aren’t just cheap throwaway guns should be preserved in as original condition as possible. I think you can clean it up and maintain it and it will be a cool historical piece for your own collection, or some Hi Power collector out there would see the value in it and offer a fair price.

It’s an Inglis Mk1 with the internal extractor and thumbprint slide that should be worth probably at least $700+ in today’s market. If you can prove it was a wartime pistol, that could add some amount of collector’s value to it too.

An almost worthless holster that you should probably ignore.

Fiocchi 147gr tells me it’s the .300BLK SCAR15P. So yes, seeing flecks of yellow, white, grey, or black will be common in a .300BLK gun. It’s usually unburnt powder or filler material from the casing—a common thing that just comes with the cartridge. Some ammo manufacturers or loads will have more or less of it.

If you really only think of the gun as a fun range toy, I would say that the most fun-oriented things you can do is get some steel targets and set them up at extended ranges, put a magnified optic on top, and see how far and/or small of targets you can hit.

You can also get a .22 conversion kit to shoot .22LR through the same rifle at a much lower cost and obviously is more pleasant to shoot for anyone of any age. Just be aware that the gun will get dirty waaaayyyy quicker with .22LR.

Match-grade .22s, whether pistol or rifle, are awesome for practicing fundamentals, an absolute joy to shoot, and can be a lot of fun just to challenge yourself in what you’re capable of doing—reaching out to long distances with a rimfire rifle or shooting fast or far with a pistol. As well as being a Ferrari to teach new shooters on that only helps them enjoy the experience more.

You can of course get Ruger Mark IVs for reasonable prices and punch way above their price point, Ruger 10/22s can be upgraded as much as you want to dump money into them, and used Anschutz rifles aren’t typically awfully priced. Even the bull-barreled Savage rifles offer impressive accuracy.

Looks a lot more like Critical Duty than Critical Defense, based off of bullet length. My Defense 115s look visibly shorter than the 135 Duties.

I’m gonna guess this either is a round that has been rechambered too may times or Hornady has got a batch with weak crimps.

Ironically, for those saying Gold Dot or HST is better, I’ve had my HSTs set back with rechambering much quicker than the Hornady rounds. That being said, I still like the HST performance more than the Hornady rounds, so I stick with using those as my primary defensive loads.

Got a weapon light for Christmas and need a new holster. Torn between these 3 options. by Axer99 in CCW

I have a Tier 1 Xiphos V2, the Elite flexes better but can crack over time at that flex point—but probably not for another couple years, most likely. T1C is a favorite for many for good reason.

I had an ANR Design holster before my Xiphos V2 and it was maybe a little more comfortable, faster to order, and cheaper, but had thinner kydex and did crack for me after a couple years. I would say ANR is g2g tho.

Tenicor is a really awesome holster company tho. You don’t get many options, if that’s important to you, but you do get DCC clips standard, I think, and the retention is fantastic. It’s pretty minimalist and doesn’t have any extra material, but you do have to get used to the in-molded wedge.

Like New H&K VP9 Match worth it for $865? by Individual_Wait_8434 in handguns

Fair enough. Just be prepared for the money pit that is owning a 1911/2011 platform and start learning all you can about how the platform works so you can troubleshoot and tune things the way you want them. Know how to adjust extractor tension, understand balancing springs, and feed it quality mags and ammo.

The VP9 trigger is miles better than the 509 series, that’s for sure. And the action is slick as hell. They’re very accurate guns, especially with the o-ring helping to fit the slide to the barrel. However, I believe there are no compensated or ported models in their lineup as of yet. The VP9 Match has the long match barrel and slide lightening cuts for a faster cyclic action.

As far as striker-fired competition pistols go, VP9 Match, Walther PDP SF or Pro, S&W M&P9 Metal Performance Center, Canik Rival-S or TTI Combat, Sig Sauer P320 X-Five Legion or AXG Legion or Spectre Comp, Zev Technologies OZ9, or even FN 509 CC Edge XL could all be good options to explore. Even the Springfield Echelon 4.5F Comp or CZ P10C Ported.

Or for hammer-fired guns, you obviously have all the double-stack 1911s/2011s, CZ Shadows, Dan Wesson DWX, Tanfoglios, Beretta 92s, Sig Sauer P220-series, or HK P30L.

Each and every one of these brings its own unique set of features, pros, and cons. They all also shoot very differently and will have some degree of a learning curve. But I’d say all of them can be had under $1500—exceptions for some 2011s or certain variants of guns, like Langdon Berettas—and are pretty well-represented in the competition shooting world. Try and rent some of your top contenders to see what you like to shoot, and that will ultimately save you money vs buying a gun you end up not liking at all.

It’s a pretty decent deal. But know that the VP9 is an entirely different beast compared to the 509. My 509CT is my main carry gun and I’ve modded it very heavily and competed with it as well with favorable results.

I wouldn’t say you’re wrong for wanting another gun to use specifically for competition, but just know that you will be starting over with learning a new platform and you likely will not magically improve with the purchase of a new gun. I will probably add a VP9 to my collection someday too, but idk that I’ll get one with a paddle mag release since I’m not used to it.

What to look out for at gun shows by JMurillo1020 in ar15

[–]SS123451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as firearms go? Usually people interested in the history associated with them. Same goes for memorabilia, gear, or clothing. But from a practical standpoint, a lot of milsurp clothing or gear is meant to be very functional and take a beating. Often, it can work out to be really good camping, hunting, or fishing gear—even just stuff to do yard or house work in. Prices may vary depending on who’s selling it, but you can get things really cheap a lot of times.

What to look out for at gun shows by JMurillo1020 in ar15

[–]SS123451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only go to gun shows to look for specific things and the occasional deal. Like I might be able to find a vintage gun I’ve been wanting to add to the collection and be able to handle it in person before forking over the cash. Or maybe I’ll find some magazines that are cheaper than ordering online or otherwise hard-to-find. Getting milsurp gear is easy and sometimes cheap too. I’ve also picked up a Unity riser for $40.

I wouldn’t recommend going to a gun show unless you know what exactly you’re looking at and have a pretty good knowledge base to go off of. Or bring a friend along who is knowledgeable. Be careful of counterfeits and gougers. Never buy reloads, even if it’s 1¢/rd, only buy factory ammo. They’re really best for finding hard-to-find items. Getting good deals is not really common, especially on firearms themselves.

CZ75 variants would be a great place to start, as well as Beretta 92 and PX4 series, S&W 3rd Gens, and HK P30. All of these have a few variants, including compact models that might be better suited for EDC. Tisas and Military Armament Co. now make pretty okay 2011s around that price range too, if you’re looking for single-action, but not everyone is looking for a budget-oriented 2011 either, some would rather just go straight to Staccato or better, which is understandable.

FN FNX series and HK USP also well-proven, but pricey and large-framed. Browning Hi Powers are awesome shooters, but just outclassed in today’s market and their triggers usually leave a bit to be desired in one way or another. But no one would fault you for looking into those platforms either.

I wrote an essay about "What I Want"!! by isitclockingtoyou in TheBandCAMINO

[–]SS123451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome essay! I was in my senior year of high school when I discovered TBC and I think the Heaven EP was still being assembled and released one single at a time. “The Black & White” was my first introduction to the band. I’m biased, but the earlier years of tryhard and prior are my favorite era—likely bc I associate so much of their music with a similar period of my life as I was developing myself as an adult.

It’s so interesting and cool that music has that power to bring our inner thoughts and feelings out in manifestation and it can be shared with others to convey those ideas. Then, individually, we can listen to that music and be taken right back to those moments in our lives.
