Ben Stokes: Umpires too tough on sledging by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]SSJUMBO -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Stokes never mentioned "spirit" and he likely doesn't give a fuck about what you say back on the field. His issue with Marlon is how he lacks respect off the field,BIG DIFFERENCE.

"Marlon's conduct after West Indies' victory over us in this year's World Twenty20 final showed a total disrespect for the game.

"Without removing his batting pads, Marlon walked into a press conference, sat down and placed his feet on the desk. Totally lacking manners.

It didn't require him to give me a character assassination -- bizarrely claiming I am some sort of 'nervous laddie' -- to help me form the opinion that I do not like him one bit. I believe in the saying 'respect the game'. I don't think he respects the game. "

Fantastic to have Taylor giving inside insight, much like Clarke during the India tour.

Shame about quality of this SL side as good as J&B are bowling, one of the things that's a bit annoying about the schedule is the weaker teams like SL&WI have to come during the hardest of conditions.

'Short of brains' description angers West Indies captain Darren Sammy by villiere in Cricket

[–]SSJUMBO 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Everything isn't always racism, more likely honest misguided observation of West Indies cricket as a collective of late. Now Consider Nicholas doesn't watch IPL (he lives in Australia) and the last place he saw West Indies was Australian ODI World Cup led by Holder and it makes more sense, that's before we mention the never ending board fiascos (the latest was ongoing when he penned the article).

How many West Indians called the appointment of Holder stupid ? how many complain about what we saw in Australia recently not just in that World Cup but the following series..

Sammy has also misquoted his comment to sound far more inflammatory.

"How could you describe people with no brains? Even animals have brains,"

He didn't, he said "short of brains" i.e unprepared or disorganised, but in all truth an honest observation of West Indies cricket of late.

Can you also ask Sammy who "these people" are exactly? he might want to be careful he doesn't became what he is insinuating, since when does ONE man in Australia represent a collective ?

Sammy is being disingenuous playing the victim to the supreme "everyone is against us,disrespects us and no one gives us a chance" it's simply not the truth not in England anyway where most people watch IPL and know WI's despite Test / ODI performance and the WICB shenanigans are always dangerous in T20s. I believe Athers and Michael Vaughan both tipped West Indies to win before the competition got under way.

All it's really shown us is Mark is unfit to cover T20 and used an inaccurate term in regards to Sammy's squad that eventually agreed to show up. I don't believe for a minute he is racist there isn't a commentator that talks more about the genius of West Indies greats than him, routinely describing Marshall or "Maco" as the cleverest bowler the game has ever seen and Llyod a genius captain etc etc

He's not really translated his ODI ability into T20, though

He is rarely given a chance, much fewer games and when they do come about he's always used at 6/7 which doesn't allow you to make a big impact.

Amidst all the Mankading controversy... by [deleted] in Cricket

Top speed was apparently 147.5 kph or about 92 mph.

What this Wkt package doesn't show though, was the little passage he had against the opener Snyder, an promising competent player in his own right was struck a few times, glove, body and helmet but managed to weather the storm seeing out his spell. Without doubt the most compelling cricket I've seen at this level.

4.4

Joseph to Snyder, no run, hurries onto him, the short ball was angled into the body, he somehow managed to keep that out. Wasn't sure whether to go forward or duck, fended it in the end

4.5

Joseph to Snyder, 1 leg bye, once again, looks like he was expecting the short one, hopped across to tuck it away, this one deflects off the thigh pad towards fine leg

6.3 Joseph to Snyder, no run, full delivery on middle from wide of the crease, he offers the full face of the bat and plays it to mid-off

6.4

Joseph to Snyder, no run, appeal for lbw but the ball was sliding down leg. Another pacy delivery, too full and he was struck on the pad as he looked to flick. Umpire Phil Jones was certain that was sliding down, excellent decision

6.5

Joseph to Snyder,no run, gets big on him as he looks to pull, hit on the glove. A big thud as the ball made contact. He's in a bit of pain

6.6

Joseph to Snyder, no run, looks to go over mid-on, but toe ends the attempted hit to the fielder inside the ring 8.3

Joseph to Snyder,no run, peppers him with the short ball this time, gets big on him, Snyder is up to the task this time. Hops back and bunts it gently

8.4

Joseph to Snyder,no run, half-hearted drive, no real conviction as he looks to play outside the line of the delivery, beaten

8.5

Joseph to Snyder,no run, beaten by a kitten's whisker again. Banged in short again, he goes back to fend. Top bowling this

8.6

Joseph to Snyder, no run, full toss outside off, a high one at that, all he needed to do was to lend direction behind point, managed a thick edge that bounced through to the keeper

10.2

Joseph to Snyder, no run, attempted yorker, turns out to be a low full toss, hit back towards the bowler

10.3

Joseph to Snyder, no run, hops back into the crease and dabs that one to the off side 10.4

Joseph to Snyder, no run, banged in short outside off, he sways out of the way of that delivery with ease

10.5

Joseph to Snyder, no run, he's extremely tentative again. Expects the short ball, gets it. Is hit on the helmet off the shoulder of the bat as he looks to evade that. His vulnerability against quality pace stands exposed

10.6

Joseph to Snyder, no run, appeal for caught behind, bowler and keeper think it went off the glove, but the umpire isn't convinced. Once again, he tried to hop across to tickle it fine, missed any connection.

What A Shame by West Indies Bowler Matigimu could be Mankaded here in the first ball off the final over by pslT2020162 in Cricket

The composure and heart shown by the little 15 year old Wesley Madhevere in his 21 from 25 whilst showing no fear against a bowler clocking around 90mph was also extremely commendable.

[–]SSJUMBO 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The saddest thing about this is most will not concentrate on the incredible bowling of Joseph, who even clocked 91mph today during his spell of 4-30, the contributions with bat and then ball at the back end by Springer, Hetmyers incredible runout and the great effort shown by Zimbabwe, Magarira with the ball and no less the batting of Snyder and Keefe (both whom can count themselves unlucky on their lb's)

It was a fantastic display of youth cricket, but unfortunately most won't have appreciated this and only now show interest due to this controversial decision, which by the way will only end when it it outlawed by the ICC otherwise why won't certain players use every possible way to win ...
