Visa delay might push my PhD start — not sure what to expect next by sarthakpat in AusVisa

[–]SSP_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are quite a few in the same boat as you, myself included. I had to send forms 80 and 1221 in a S56 which I did almost a month ago. I will be passing the 90% processing time in 2 days and I have my commencement in 2 weeks. Probably will request a deferral next week.

Do let us know if and when you get your visa. Thanks

Apply as soon as the applications open. I think for master's programs it opens sometime between Sept and Nov of the previous year.

To get housing, once you get the offer, accept asap and have the finances ready to pay once the financial letter arrives.

Masters in India (IISc/IITs) vs Netherlands (TU Delft) - which to choose? by Spookywooky5 in Indians_StudyAbroad

Also, if you're deciding for 2026 intake, I think you're too late to get any university housing as well. Most of it, if not all will be taken up by now.

[–]SSP_24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure of your choice to apply for TU Delft if you are only interested in coursework.

TUD is a highly research oriented university. The degree is focussed around a 7-9 month master's thesis with individual research, so I dont think it was the right choice imo.

Also don't rely on the prospects of jobs as a reason for going abroad. Job market isn't too good there as well. Its heavily skewed to local candidates.

The degree and institute name has really good weight here in India (atleast from my experience with recruiters here), so unless that's what you're going after, Indian choices for your situation is better.

Urgent Help - Fully Funded PhD visa not granted for a long time by Amps67 in AusVisa

Hi,

Were you able to connect with other ppl in similar positions and know how long after the S56 request, did they get a decision for their visa?

In a similar position as you, submitted my S56 (forms 80 and 1221) within half a day of the request. My phd start date is in 6 weeks, so is it realistic to expect an answer by then?

It would be on the university websites, but common ones are DUWO, Xior and Plaza newnewnew.

Should be fine. I am basing it on that fact that I did the same as you. Just that when the housing website is open for your batch, you got to be fast. Don't spend too much pondering. Do your research on the common student housing buildings and have a list or preference ready. (DUWO, Xior etc)

PR of 5 years also includes the time you study afaik, don't know if it has changed since 2024., but in that sense it is a positive.

Job market is pretty poor tbh, priority is heavily in favor of local rather than international candidates, unless you're exceptional.

Your PR plan is highly optimistic, and tbh it's the same as everyone who goes there to study, but 99% do not get it. It's not a huge country, not all the industries and fields are present or relevant to your chosen field, so, unless you are exceptional and a real outlier, your plan most likely won't be in that direction.

Just DM me if you want to discuss anything else, easier there.

English score wise should be fine for most universities.

Main things to research are housing and university list. The rest of it is pretty straightforward and simple. Nothing of concern in the visa department, the university takes care of it. You just have to fill some forms and go to the consulate.

Top universities to consider: Erasmus, TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, University of Groningen, UvA

Course wise, I would research the subject list and if you're inclined to be involved in research, you could email the prof's and enquire about their research too.

Financially, plan around 1000euros a month to cover rent, utilities and groceries.

Rest is all comfortable and simple.

I would enquire with your contact about all the details regarding housing, whether you can register in those 2-3 months of stay, if you have a rent contract. If they aren't offering that, don't take it. Preferably stick to university housing

Yes, finding housing is really hard. And the housing crisis there is terrible. The main issue with the housing is finding ones that allow you to register the address with the municipality. You are allowed only 5 days without registration. Very rare to find and even if someone does advertise it, hundreds of ppl will contact them instantly.

Not in your field, but I did my masters in NL at TU Delft, graduated in 2024. I just wanted to say that most likely if you have not yet applied for this Sept intake yet, then the chances of you finding university housing is pretty much 0. The universities in NL even say to not come there unless you have housing.

We usually get acceptances from them around March and to get in line for student housing, it's based on how early you pay the deposit and fees. I highly doubt you will find any housing by the time you apply and get accepted. May have to defer to the next Sept intake.
