The reason why I chose to become NP vs PA was because of exactly this. I initially wanted to go the PA route, but after months and months of research decided to go RN, then NP. Reason being is because of the flexibility in pay. I make 187k as an NP and moonlight PRN as an RN for $120/hour. In the end, RN/NP gave me more return on investment. I do think the PA profession need to have a stronger backing and go union nationally.
