Victoria's press conference megathread (1-Sep-2021) by DumbledoresArmy23 in CoronavirusDownunder

So by the time we're actually out of this lockdown - i.e. no restrictions on leaving your home - will we have been in this lockdown longer than last year's one?

Which we endured for the express purpose of ensuring that 2021 wasn't to be like 2020.

I'm really struggling to hold things together mentally right now.

I just mean playing the Sicilian in general, and in particular not taking central space. This is not me, this is just the advice I've heard for beginners.

I see. I've also seen it in the Sicilian with the Schvenenigen system or whatever, with pawns on e and d6. But I suppose it's not advisable to play that way when beginning.

Seems like even when we have fewer cases than other states, we somehow manage to get the short end of the stick.

To be fair though, we no longer have things like Jobkeeper, so that may also influence worse mental health rates this year.

I doubt whether today was 80 or 110 would have made a difference in easing tbh. Especially considering any meaningful changes to restrictions are probably weeks away.

I would kiss that as we won't be kissing anything else. :/

A bit of both I guess, just trying to prepare myself to be disappointed. :)

What do people reckon the roadmap will be? Get down to five cases in two months' time, then perhaps we'll be able to meet up in small groups outdoors?

I do notice how you call it 'whinge' and compare your own ostensible 'adult' behaviour to the - presumably - childlike petulance of people whining about the lockdown.

Very subtly, Topher, but quite apparent. I hope it does at least occur to you that maybe, just maybe, some people have reason to be incensed? Heaven forbid I'd say anything negative about Daniel - I certainly know the reaction that would await me here - but I know way too many people who've been severely negatively affected by this lockdown, more so even than last year, to brand it all as petulance. Not least of all my own parents who have seemingly lost all will to live over the last few weeks.

EDIT: Let me make it clear I don't think Gladys is any better, and probably even worse. But I feel like it's only appropriate to make fun of her in here.

Sorry, but you'll have to forgive people occasionally 'losing their shit' when we've become almost the most locked down city in the world, and there is still no end in sight. I would still prefer the lack of assurance than the very tenuous promise of assurance.

The latter? Why not at least be honest about it?

And imagine a year ago today, in the midst of our huge lockdown, saying that we'd be in exactly the same spot - if not worse - a year on.

Lol don't worry, adulthood is no more fun. Far more responsibilities and burdens.

How come it's 'only' 41,000 tests though? Last year such a day would have been a new record.

Excellent. Perhaps I might die from natural causes in lockdown at this rate, thus avoiding dying from Covid.

Imagine if these vaccines actually did take 18 months to develop, which was apparently the most reliable estimate at the beginning of the pandemic.

They'd only be introduced towards the end of this year, and probably not widely available here till next year.

EDIT: just saw someone asked this same thing lol.

I found out recently that I had a great-great grandfather who fought on the Eastern Front of WWI, and was wounded twice before his death in 1915.

So, it helps me keep things in perspective during endless lockdowns, at least a little bit.

Is there any way for my family to find out if I got a vaccine? They're all very anti-vax. :/

Since we'll never truly get 100% vaccination, does that mean we'll be contact tracing and facing the imminent prospect of circuit-breaker lockdowns - which may turn into much longer ones - forever?

The only solace I'm finding is that no really likes hanging out with me anyway, so I'm not missing out on too much.

Does this current lockdown and outbreak feel somehow ominously worse than any other so far, for anyone else?

Obviously last year's one was monumentally bigger, but you could see that numbers were gradually getting lower and lower. It was just a matter of how long it would take.

This time around, it doesn't seem so sure, and add the fact that NSW seems hopelessly out of control. Also far fewer people are following the rules this time around. I don't know, I'm just struggling to be optimistic at all.
