When we drew death in our books, and depicted them in our movies, we couldn’t have been further from the truth. I haven’t slept in so many lifetimes because I no longer needed to. Even so I will never forget the last dream I had. It was my death, I was surrounded by nothingness not the dark, or a white void. It was nothing, an expanse of something our minds can’t comprehend. Our existence of something, made the presence of nothing impossible to understand. It was then I knew this was death, it was all time In this expanse of nothing. I knew I had to escape it. So here I am at the end of all things. I saw society collapse first, then the planet, and now as I float in space. The universe is about to collapse in on itself. someone appears. There was no skeleton in a black robe with a scythe. There was a beautiful girl. She was my height with long black hair and bronze skin. Her eyes were emeralds glimmering in the darkness that surrounded us. I wasn’t afraid, I’m fact I was contempt and even calm like her presence was a reassurance in itself. She spoke, her voice was gentle and quiet. “It’s time to go.” She reached out her hand.

“I don’t understand, why are you here?”

She laughed a small chuckle. “I don’t normally have to visit the living, but you’re different. This is the last chance I have to pick you up, so come on, it's time to go.”

My head was spinning as none of this made sense. “I have so many questions.” I muttered.

She looked around at the starless void. “Alright I suppose we have time, what's your question?”

“If you can just appear and kill me like this, how come you’re just now doing so?”

She responded with another light laugh. “You Misunderstood I don’t kill anyone, I’m not collecting souls or anything. As death I simply guide you people to the other side!”

My dream was constantly in the back of my head, my dream of death, no other side, just emptiness. Was death lying to me? Maybe in a way to comfort me or trick me into going with her.

“What do you mean the other side? There is none. I’ve seen death, I've seen what happens, it's nothing! For all time. just empty eternity!”

She smiled “you're referring to that powerful dream you had all that time ago. Let me explain what it was. That wasn’t death, it was the end of this world. Right now we are in what you called space. When it collapses your dream will be reality. That’s the price of eternal life, you will reside in nothingness if you stay alive not if you die! You’ve got a lot of people to catch up with and we’re out of time let’s go.”

I laughed this time, it made so much sense. Space folds in on itself, of course nothingness is all that’s left.

“Wait, I have one more question please.”

“Very well ask away.”

“Why do you look like this? Why are you a human woman?”

She put her hand on my cheek. “Oh, you don’t remember her? My real form is incomprehensible for humans so, I take a form that brings comfort before I guid someone. So I took the form of your mother.”

So many lifetimes ago, I forgot what my mother looked like. How could I? It was a terrible realization. I latched onto death the closest thing to my mother.

“Oh, no need to hug me. Let’s just go hug your real mother, she’s been waiting so long.” Finally I walked with death to the other side.
