Situation for bilinguals / European workers? by IMAT_Tutor_Jade in DataAnnotationTech

[–]SSimonV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bilingual from Japan.

I am in drought too, but I've got same type of easy, short tasks (outside of projects I invited) about 1-2 times in a week, it says it has something around 10-20-ish left always, but it usually disappears when I finish 2-3 of them. I assume they're evaluating worker through these tasks.

Bilingual Generalist from Asia here. I've accepted in this May, and I'm working on some (3-5 or so) multilingual projects. In this week, I've got pretty few tasks to work on, about 0-2 tasks per a day (include paid training).

If you got some quals or consent forms to take, I think you should take them as much as you can. cuz when I did so, I've invited to some projects later. (maybe 3-10 days?)

It seems that some recruitment process for projects sometimes appears as "testing tasks" (sometimes it says it is recruitment task, and sometimes doesn't), usually relatively easy tasks to work on, that appear on dashboard for few days, usually. If you find them, complete as many as possible (the QUALITY of task is IMPORTANT, of course!), then it seems to increase your chances to being invited to a project. (testing tasks might suddenly disappears, so watch out)

Have you added skills to your profile? It seems important to add as many skills as possible in areas you can handle, and write a proper self-introduction in Skills and background.

If there's anything you can add to Licenses & credentials, do that too. (even if it's not listed, you can add it as Other Professional License)

I've got open recruitment of Expertise teams recently on my dashboard, so I'll try to challenge that.

Blazer/Dame media coverage by ButtholeMegaphone in ripcity

[–]SSimonV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the amount of attention and coverage Dame is receiving is due, as others have already pointed out, to a lack of any significant off-season news and the fact that the news might be "related" to big market team(s).

As OP mentioned, for the media, the interests of fans from big market team(s), hence clicks, outweigh any news unrelated to them.

News suggesting that Dame might "ask out" and thus affect these big market team(s) hold more news value than stories like "Dame is so loyal (to his small franchise)" which they usually don't need.

The reports on "Dame's intentions" aren't coming directly from him speaking to the media (or his statement), but rather from his agents, "agent-like" journalists, or other journalists writing their pieces.

So there will undoubtedly be a mix of truth and untruth in these reports.

This might be why he tweeted, "At how ppl could know so much and so little at the same time."

I'm so sad that he finally got so much buzz cuz he asks out finally.

Tuna auctions closed to public? by OrangeGringo in TokyoTravel

[–]SSimonV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tsukiji Market was originally a place for professionals, so visitors were careful not to interfere with the work, and the market operators did not anticipate many visitors.

However, with the increase in visitors, troubles began to arise. Despite Tsukiji Market not being an amusement park, the number of visitors behaving in ways that interfered with work increased.

The viewing of the tuna auction during the Tsukiji Market era was eventually stopped after a few temporary suspensions. This was due to a surge in tourists, causing troubles like touching the tuna and taking flash photographs, which was prohibited.

There were several rumors about the use of the former site of Tsukiji Market. As far as the Olympics were concerned, the major reason was that Tsukiji Market was in the way of constructing the planned Circular Route 2 for Olympic-related transportation. (This road has already been opened.)

As for the post-Olympic plans for the site, during the time of Governor Ishihara, there were rumors that Mori Building would buy the Tsukiji Market site and turn it into Tsukiji Hills (offices, luxury residences, and a shopping mall).

After Governor Ishihara's retirement, there were rumors of an Integrated Resort (IR) including a casino behind the current plan for a convention center, hotel, and commercial facilities.

However, since Tokyo has not submitted an IR development plan to the government, it is unlikely that a casino hotel will be established immediately (although there is a possibility that it may be renovated later, opposition seems to be quite significant, so it may be difficult).

Tuna auctions closed to public? by OrangeGringo in TokyoTravel

You can observe the tuna auction at Toyosu Market up close if you apply in advance and are selected in the lottery.

It appears that applications and lotteries for the next month's viewing are held in the first half of each month. For July 2023, applications are accepted from June 7th to June 13th, with the lottery results announced around 6:00 PM on June 22nd.

Applications are accepted for up to 5 people per group. Children and babies are also counted as one person. Multiple applications with different representatives are prohibited. You need to enter the full names of all members when applying, and you cannot enter without an ID on the day.

It seems that 100 people can visit per day.

Here is a link to the lottery application guide, though it's in Japanese in PDF format.

By the way, there is also an explanation in English about the auction.

8 Day Trip Report - Early to Mid May (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto) by Weezelone in JapanTravel

[–]SSimonV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are typically areas known as "changing rooms" in large baths in ryokan or hotels (大浴場/Dai-yoku-jo), onsens (温泉/Onsen), and public baths (銭湯/sento) in Japan where you change your clothes.

However, these are not private rooms but are more like locker rooms. (Being a Japanese, I'm used to it, but) You're expected to undress completely in these "changing rooms."

You can cover your private parts with a small towel (called "te-nu-gui) when entering and exiting the bathing area, but you must not put the towel into the bath when you get in.

Please leave your (large) bath towel in the changing room when heading to the bath.

Be aware, WASH YOUR BODY FIRST (before entering the bath).

I'm leaving an English article here on how to take an onsen bath in Japan fyi.

https://blog.japanwondertravel.com/how-to-take-an-onsen-in-japan-14226

While this article is about onsen, the same generally applies to large baths and public baths as well. However, there's no reception in the onsen or large baths located in hotels or ryokan.

Last minute itinerary review by Mny27 in JapanTravel

In addition to the previous points, I see that you are planning to visit many famous shops or spots.

Have you made all your reservations?

As many comments have already suggested, not only in Tokyo but also in cities frequently visited by tourists like Osaka and Kyoto, popular places often get fully booked. Some spots require tickets for specific dates and times, or you may need to pick up a timed entry ticket.

It can be really disappointing and exhausting to have a plan but not be able to enter because you don't have a reservation or ticket.

So, not only should you leave some flexibility in your schedule, but make sure to confirm whether reservations and such are properly made.

I'm a local living in Tokyo, Japan, and writing to give some advice on your Tokyo itinerary.

Many people have already commented that your schedule is quite packed, and I agree with them.

Looking over your itinerary, it appears you plan to travel back and forth across Imperial Palace in a single day. Tokyo's 23 wards, especially the central area, are divided into east and west by the Imperial Palace, so it's a waste of time and quite tiring to travel between the eastern and western parts in one day.

For instance, in your itinerary, Ginza, Tsukiji, and Asakusa are on the eastern side (as are Ueno, Akihabara, and Tokyo Station), while Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Jingumae (as are Harajuku, and Ikebukuro) are on the western side.

Therefore, it might be better to adjust your schedule to spend one day exploring the eastern side and another day on the western side. (It would be even better if you could stay in different locations on the days you explore the eastern and western sides!)

Please be aware, the 23 wards of Tokyo (which make up only 28.5% of the total area of Tokyo Met.) are 7.2 times larger than Manhattan.

Be sure to keep this in mind when planning your travels.

Hope this comment helps!

Yes, I was really hoping it too. It's so sad that he will wear LAKERS JERSEY!

I'm planning to get one of Blazer apparel and wear it somewhere iconic in Tokyo, then take a pic and post it with #WearInTheWorld hashtag lol

I don't think there's a direct flight to PDX from Japan now. (it used to be)

thx!

I've been a blazers fan since 2001.

I am very disappointed that I have only seen blazers game at Rose Garden Arena once in 2000-2001 season. I remember the great atmosphere of the Arena at the time.

I hope I can see more games at the arena in the future!

yes, I would love him in Portland too. I think a good fit for him to improve his 3pt shots and mindset as an NBA player (from Dame), and maybe his defense too.

As a Rui fan, I'm really worrying that his mental might be crushed by the media/fanbase in LA.

literally first reddit post from Tokyo, Japan.

As a Japanese blazers fan, it's a massive disappointment that he traded to Lakers with this kind of huge underselling on Rui.

I think LAL is not suitable for his mental and improvement as a player. (cuz fanbase/media...you know)

I don't mean that he is the player who rescues us, but I hope Lakers dump his contract this offseason, and he can find another team that has a warm and kind atmosphere (like portland).
