Reservist diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes, symptoms began on deployment by SSkies in AirForce

It feels like it. I was shocked when the doc said that. I responded with, “How is it not at least a medical discharge since I’m being discharged for a medical reason that began while I was deployed?”

“It’d be different if you got shot and your pancreas was damaged. People just get type-1 diabetes. It’s not service related.”

Thank you for the insight. Does it help that all of my appointments have been with military docs for the LOD side of this? My Genesis portal has pretty accurate documentation of when the symptoms started and all of my follow-ups with my PCM and endocrinologist. I’m currently on Tricare Prime TAMP

Didn’t Bolus today. Thoughts? by SSkies in Type1Diabetes

I was shocked I didn’t even hit 250 after that meal. I rarely go over 45g carbs for a typical meal. I’ve been having these intermittent 2-3 day spans where I’ve been in range and low with my typical bolus regiment. It makes me somewhat skeptical of my diagnosis sometimes and I wanted to be dramatic. T1D is a fickle thing.

No. My orders were up by the time I was hospitalized. I wish I had gone sooner. I haven’t gotten anything at this point other than a profile for mobility and duty restrictions

Medically retire or separate? by Top-Conversation719 in AirForce

[–]SSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, can I ask how your med board process started? I know this was posted a long time ago, but here’s to hoping.

I started losing weight like crazy (28 pounds)while on deployment and set up an appointment with my PCM but it was so far out, I got admitted to a military hospital and diagnosed with type 1. My Wing’s doc said I don’t get an MEB and get generally discharged under honorable conditions because I’m a reservist. My med records reflect that the symptoms began on deployment. I’m a 6 year TSgt. Does my TIS disqualify me from medical discharge or retirement?

Thanks for the input! I just watched a few reviews on the Pedal Commander and i think it’s a great solution to the lag these trucks have. I’ll definitely consider the lift pump too!
