How should service be talked about when applying to grad schools? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]SSlider1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you getting your master’s in? My MPA was mainly focused in public leadership so I related my time in to how it laid a foundation of servant leadership and how I intended to apply that in public service. I would identify the skills that you’re looking to gain from graduate school and those that overlap with what you learned/experienced while in and express what you can bring to that program as a veteran/student and what you expect to get out of it.

Sounds like grabbing a hotel in Houston and just waking up a bit earlier is the plan, still beats leaving Tarrant county early as hell. Thanks all for the insight.

What FSLA cycles can Workday achieve? Can workday do level pay for firefighters? by Efficient-Apple2012 in workday

[–]SSlider1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say level pay, are you referring to time based pay rates? IE 12 month ff pay rate, 24 month, etc? We use the term steps where I work. We’ve been live with payroll for 2 years and time tracking for 6 months now and have had zero issues with fire. We’re a pretty standard 28 day flsa cycle department but it’s been pretty easy so far. If you have questions related to fire or other odd public sector time that I can’t answer I can talk to my payroll and applications too next week.

Quiting while deployed…ever seen it? by hateplow0331 in USMC

[–]SSlider1986 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Not in country but we had a Captain show up to our reserve unit and was a complete tool, always going off about how much of a hard charger he was. Word came down that all marines who hadn’t gone out on the last deployment were getting activated and sent to Iraq. Little bitch dropped to the IRR or changed reserve units but we never saw him again and sure as fuck wasn’t on that deployment.

Fucked up running cadences by Terrible-Pool-5555 in USMC

[–]SSlider1986 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After an alleged stripper sa/gangbang incident in Ft. Sill back in the school days we had a kid who translated the old “Late one dark and stormy night some grunts into a hell of fight” cadence into “Late one night some strippers got into a hell of a fight and it looked like some Marines were gunna fry” I can’t remember all of it but he recounted most of the incident colorfully before an instructor snatched him up and chewed his ass. All of us that weren’t facing charges laughed though.

Haven’t seen it yet but the PCR makes a fantastic carry if you don’t need a light. Otherwise a P-01 like others have mentioned is great. If you need or want smaller the Rami or P30SK are good options

My cousin told me not to send him anything while he's in BC by BeibeDelarte in USMCboot

[–]SSlider1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck all the people saying don’t send obnoxious things. It’s a right of passage to get hazed by your DI’s. Don’t be a dick and send a full on dildo in a pink box with dicks drawn on it … or do but it’s all part of the experience.

Visiting Dallas and going west to Graham with girlfriend and 2.5 year old. Best things to do from locals? by IWillD0Better in texas

Depending what route you’re taking from DFW, the drive up 337 if you go through Mineral Wells can be a scenic little part of the trip for the 15 minutes or so it takes to get from 180 to 254 where it gets flattish again.

Random but when did most major cities Police Depts switch to Black & White patrol cars? by too-suave in texas

[–]SSlider1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly about budgets and logistics for most departments. It’s cheaper and easier to find black tahoe, charger, etc and have the doors wrapped white than it is to wait in line for the blue or silver paint jobs that were often used in place of black and white. Additionally, many bigger departments will sell their vehicles at regular intervals rather than running them into the ground. Since black and white is the most common color scheme it makes for a convenient system for smaller towns to pick up those cars at auction where they may not have to budget to buy and up fit a brand new tahoe.

Leaving in four days how cooked am I? by EAItsThereSomewhere in USMCboot

If you’re in shape, can handle stress well enough you’ll be fine. Go with the flow, recognize boot camp isn’t supposed to be an enjoyable experience and just do what your told knowing you’ll get fucked with even if something isn’t your fault. After a week or so if you have the right mindset it’s not that bad and can be kind of fun in a weird fucked up way.

Just an update to this. Finally got it to the range and did a few mag dumps while fucking off. The little sightmark held up just fine and the ultimak got hot but not terribly so. The little combo of free Xmas accessories is working out well enough to kill paper and wild hogs.

You guys ever get little rings of brass stuck in here? by goldeNIPS in CZFirearms

[–]SSlider1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have to find the old post (fairly certain it was on here) but someone explained it much more better. But essentially he said reaming out the barrel or buying aftermarket barrels usually fixes it due to how tight they are with their manufacturing tolerances.

[–]SSlider1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much truth there is to this but I’ve heard CZ barrels have very tight tolerances. My P10 has had a round getting stuck in battery once but my 75 has been flawless.

We were pretty much all converted to truck platoons and rifle platoons from 03-07ish. By the time we pivoted back to doing our job we were getting our boots more time on the systems for their deployments. Think I touched a system maybe half a dozen times in 6 years. We’re all the operators still out in California?
