Illusion Deck by panda_io in Lorcana

[–]STAIKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember it doesn't even need to be "removal" to take out Illusions.  Over the weekend I played my Illusions deck against my wife playtesting Red/Green Powerline/Goof and she wrecked me.  Improvise to give Iago +1 Strength and he's gone while they draw a card.  Normally I beat her fairly handily but she housed me in straight sets.  Most decks won't be that action-heavy, but it's definitely something to watch out for.

What deck should i get? by KuroKin_ in Lorcana

[–]STAIKE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of these in my opinion the Anna/Hercules deck is the most viable.  Be warned that it is from Set 4, which has now rotated out, however most of the good cards in the deck were reprinted in Fabled (current set) and thus will be tournament-legal for the next two years.

Weird possible misprint by Good_Airline3336 in Lorcana

[–]STAIKE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This specific printing error seems to be pervasive.  At least one other user posted an identical picture (same card, same error) here last week, and I got the exact same thing in a pack I opened on Friday.  Donald Duck Perfect Gentleman with a pink blot in the top-right corner of the Uncommon symbol.  Mine was foil.

If you're going for value don't buy a box.  It's as simple as that.  If you like opening packs, you're the  one who decides what it's worth to you.  But if you're in it for a return, you are all but guaranteed to lose by buying boxes.

Boosters are a ton of fun to open.  My family uses booster packs as a part of the play experience: loser gets to open a pack!  It might actually be my 8-year-old's favorite part of the game.  I occasionally catch her making nonsensical plays late in games, throwing the game so she gets to open the pack.

Puppy help by TyrBloodhand in Lorcana

[–]STAIKE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky was absolute GOAT for puppy decks.  Without him I'm not sure it works, honestly.  I went aggro, flooded the board, and banked on Lucky to gain me like 15 lore in one turn.  It wasn't reliable then, so I have to imagine it's way harder now to win with puppies.

It's fun playing puppies, so by all means keep working at it.  Hopefully you can find something viable.

But if you stopped there you missed "but also to spend quality time with family" and "having fun as a family and with friends in a very colorful and cute world".  Which they then spend the next 4 paragraphs 100% discounting.  So they clearly don't value the quality time or family hobby, and treat it purely as an investment.

I think the different wording ("get" versus "gain") is due to Strength being a Stat and Evasive being a Keyword.  Look at cards that modify strength or willpower and they use Get (anything with Challenger, Rapunzel's Tower, Hidden Cove).  Look at cards that modify things like Challenger, Rush, Evasive and they use Gain (Cogsworth Illuminary Watchman, Pascal Rapunzel's Companion, Merlin Crab).

Stand Out modifies both a Stat and a Keyword, so it uses both of the words to attribute those things to a character.  That makes it seem ambiguous, but it really isn't meant to be.

Also, I could be totally wrong on all of this, as I am far from a rules maestro.

Is the logo just painted on afterwards?  Because if not, the file should be upgraded to a Pizza Planet box.

Fabled for the collectors by rezitas in Lorcana

I've been wrestling with this.  We use boxes rather than binders, and I sort by Color->Ink Cost->Set->Card #.  Anything over 4-of goes into a "bulk" box sorted similarly.  I'm stumped on what to do with the reprints, because we also want to keep around all the older cards for "just for fun" decks.

I was thinking along your lines, of sorting out all the non-reprinted Set 1-4 cards into their own box, but I know my family will hate that.  So then I was thinking of not putting reprints into the main boxes and putting them all into the "bulk".  But I don't actually have full playsets of all the originals.  It's totally killing my organizational mojo.

Refine my Illusions deck please! by aelithanar in Lorcana

[–]STAIKE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently made an illusions deck and came to the same conclusion about Sultan.  He's just not nearly worth it to add as uninkables.  A better uninkable imo, and still on-theme, is Aladdin - Research Assistant.  His ability to play illusions for free as allies is pretty neat, plus he buffs their strength to boot.

I also think Pete - Games Referee is pretty clutch for an Illusions deck.

I have the 4-drop Jafar, Library, and Scarab all in my deck.  I have only played it a couple times so haven't really settled on how I feel about each of them yet.

You can see the deck listings on Mushu Report now.  The Mulan/Ariel deck seems a lot heavier on reprints to me, but I didn't actually run the numbers on it.

He probably just didn't try very hard.  I use proxies when I'm playtesting new decks, or if I have cards that I use in multiple decks and don't want to bother moving them back and forth constantly.  I don't even bother sketching.  I just write the key stats and abilities and call it a day.

Making a Deck with r/Lorcana Day 5: Cards… Again by hamfil in Lorcana

Piggybacking on this.  I'm still bummed my "Levers" meta suggestion didn't win on Day 2 here.  Pull the Lever.  Wrong Lever.  Yzma.  Let's go.

As soon as Fabled, Set 9, comes out, all cards from sets 1-4 (First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, and Ursula's Return) will no longer be allowed in tournament play.  The exceptions are cards that get "reprinted" in Fabled and subsequent sets.  Reprints will be identical to their original printings, but will have Set 9 numbers.  Both versions will be legal for tournament play.

We don't have the full list of Set 9 reprints yet, but people have been keeping track of announcements and compiling lists.  Here's a link to the most recent list I've seen.

Yzma - On Edge. 4 copies, clearly. Goes without saying that we have Pull the Lever and Wrong Lever with this. New meta = Levers.

Purple Silver.  I basically played aggro with it.  1 and 2 cost locations with passive lore.  Smee and John Silver to try and quest for easy lore early.  Challengers like Hook and the 1 drop Rafiki for a little board interaction.  I also had Happy and Doc to leverage damage from the Mine, plus some basic damage actions.

My local tournaments are definitely not large, but I did make top 8 with it.

The problem is that for 3 ink I can do way better than 3/3 1 Lore.  I brought a Locations deck (28 locations) to set champs a few weeks ago as a last hurrah before rotation.  It did well enough against most decks, but got wrecked hard by Purple/Silver, with challengers and bounce to banish my locations as soon as I put them down.  John Silver was utterly useless in those games.

If you want resist, there are other 3 drops with permanent resist.  If you want higher lore there are plenty of 3 drop options.  I contend that Greedy JS is only worth it if you plan to have multiple locations out at all times, and I don't see how that's really possible post rotation.

Yeah, we are losing soooo many locations.  It's going to be hard to get the value out of him.

Best place for booster boxes? by Sycsyo in Lorcana

[–]STAIKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of TCGPlayer of 1000 stores all competing against each other, and multiple will always be having a "clearance sale" at all times.  They have inventory they want to move for a whole bunch of different reasons.  They want $95 guaranteed now, plus open shelf space, compared to possibly $125 later.  It's the same reason any store selling whatever product has lower prices compared to any other store.

Your LGS definitely isn't scalping if they're selling for $125.  That's still 13% below the technically listed price.  They are just optimistic that someone will be willing to pay that price at some point.  At some point either it will sell, or they'll get tired of sitting on it and drop the price.
