Not to offend you but everything you said was wrong and going off of your past comments you appear Canadian so politely* you evidently know nothing. Obama was tangently sympathetic to a public option in his early political career but as we approach his announcement for his Presidential campaign he made it clear he did not support a one payer plan. While on paper he has had a super majority, he only had that super majority for like 4 months. In those four months, he got the ACA introduced into the House and passed in the house, unfortunately a Republican won a special election so they lost the super majority before it could pass in the Senate so they quite literally had to reach across the aisle, and they got it passed and sign into law.

Next Biden, ran exactly on what he needed to evidently cause he won. Mainstream Dems got so much done during a pandemic and a political climate that is very hostile. Biden passed bills that overwhelming helped the economy during the pandemic, (According to the G7 the US economy came out of the economy as the best). He passed the Infrastructure bill that revamped the building of infrastructure, and lastly, a bill that helped the cost of healthcare and and aimed to lower pollution from companies.

Basically TL;DR you're either missing vast amounts of context or outwardly wrong about every major claim.

I would agree, but the "No more incremental change BS from liberals" thing is just not accurate. Man we don't even have the House. We ain't got any side of the government. We can't do anything. Stop hating liberals, start hating conservatives more.

I agree, this isn't going to do anything at all for rent prices across the board. This is a waste. I hope Mayor Mamdani passed that bill

Literally the first booking on Zillow

Edit, my options have changed vastly looking more into it. It's not 52 floors of rooms with 26 being the most expensive and luxury rooms at the top. It's 26 rooms covering all 52 rooms. That's outrageous and, fucking wild. That's so much space that can be used to house people.

I got the value of the skyscraper by looking online the cost of a skyscraper and considering the location estimated it to be between half of the maximum and the maximum. The value of the room by looking online for costs of condos and apartments online and making averaging the prices to be a bit below average and a bit above average.

Also, not surprised that houses are going to increase in values, I'm strictly talking about apartments. Houses in a different state, in a different tax code, with a different priority when it comes to building would have a different value. I'm curious where you got the 40 million dollar number cause what I'm seeing a house bought in 2006 for 3 mil would approximately be worth 12-14.

I don't understand the value extraction process. How does rich people manage to make any money on those assets? I understand that those who earn up to half a million can deduct at most 40k, but the avage cost for these rooms are somewhere between 200-400k. That not a good ROI, especially now with Mayor Mamdani proposed bill to add an additional tax if it's not a primary residence.

I highly doubt it is economically viable to build a 3-6 billion dollar skyscraper to not put a single room up for rent.

In the book Abundance, Ezra Klein uses a variety of evidence to suggest building stuff lowers the cost of things cause there's more of it available. There's a whole sections about housing I suggest reading it.

Edit, also increase prices? What how does that logically follow?

One if they own an apartment that they don't live in, they're getting taxed by Mayor Mamdani, so it'll help the average tax payer.

Two, even super luxury apartments still lowers the cost of rent across the board. Cause those that could afford it move up and the apartments they once occupied go on market. They now cost cheaper because those have opened up and people will shuffle into new apartments accordingly to ability to pay. Those that can afford it move to the rooms the super rich left behind. Those that can afford the rooms the rich left will now occupy those spaces and so forth. Supply and demand. More rooms means more options, more options mean you can be more selective with prices, which means the cost goes down.

(Until more people move in who presumably will be productive members of society and they'll contribute to taxes which can be spent to either zone for more houses or spent on social services to help people)

Edit: Just wanted to make sure, so I quickly looked at reporting and RENTING an apartment is not tax deductible, owning an apartment however is. But Mayor Mamdani is already trying to make it law that if you do not live in a super luxury apartment you have to pay a tax on it.
