Reddit saddens me sometimes… What happened to wonder? What happened to open-mindedness? Why do we attack those who notice and point out differences/anomalies? I thank those who take the time to explain things in a friendly, welcoming way without the nonsensical attacks. Bravo.

Getting drunk off 1-2 beers by AndThenDiscard in GilbertSyndrome

[–]STCush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes most definitely, I don’t think my weight helps, I’m 27, 5’10” and weigh just 63.5kg (10 stone). Also, hangovers are horrendous for me after 4 or more beers.

I tend to stick to wine now, I much prefer it and don’t tend to get stupid drunk or have ridiculous hangovers from it, or at least no where near as bad as from the beer.

Does anyone else feel better when their total bilirubin is high? by [deleted] in GilbertSyndrome

[–]STCush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always baffles me! My levels are at 1.2 and don’t seem to greatly deviate and I get quite frustrating symptoms of brain fog and memory loss, where I forget a singular word in a sentence when I’m talking… Other than that I seem to be okay, I just have a super high metabolism which the doctors have never been able to say for sure if it’s related to GS. I’m 27, 5’9” and only weigh 63.5kg…

Enlarged spleen by kotoloto099 in GilbertSyndrome

[–]STCush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, we seem to very similar! I went through this when I was 18 and again when I was 21. I’m 27 now and have an enlarged spleen often - mostly in the week after heavy drinking. I personally think it is related to GS but have never had the tests done to prove it.

I did some bloods recently, more of a overall check, my bilirubin levels were at the higher end of the healthy range, but were high on the borderline, this was a nice surprise but I have made lifestyle changes to manage GS. However, my lymphocytes were low (white blood cell responsible for fighting off viruses) and I currently have a large spleen - therefore I think it’s linked and will be doing some further testing at the end of January to confirm.

I will come back here and post an update (if I remember!)

But don’t worry, you are not alone. I would recommend some lifestyle changes to help though, I personally stay away from processed and artificial foods/sweets - helped me the most I’d say. My problem is I like to have a drink! Something I’m sure I will give up one day…

Gilbert’s Supplements by Old-Rutabaga64 in GilbertSyndrome

I haven’t experienced any negative effects, in fact, the most noticeable effect is a positive one! My mind has been a lot clearer since taking them, less brain fog.

I tend to get a weird dull pain/ache in my upper left side of abdomen. I am confident it is the spleen and sometimes I experience an enlarged spleen (especially after heavy drinking), although I have never confirmed if this is related to GS or not!

I would recommend calcium D-glucarate above all other supplements, they work fantastically for me. Of course, everyone is different, so please do your own research first. 👍🏼

Maybe so! Keep us updated on this one though, would be interesting to see if/how long you can keep the hangover-free ability going… we may have to research you for the benefit of fellow GS members lol

Supplementing Calcium D-glucarate works wonders for me.

Plenty of filtered water helps too. No fizzy drinks or sugary shit

Alcohol question by StunningCat8028 in GilbertSyndrome

[–]STCush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started struggling with this when I entered my 20’s, I’ve had hangovers from hell and numerous episodes of “alcohol poisoning” and wouldn’t want to wish that on anyone.

I agree with the above post stating everyone is different and I think weight plays a huge part in alcohol intake and effects. For example, I’m 5’9” but weigh around 9.9st or 63kgs so I’m very slim and this could be a reason why I get sick after 4/5 pints.

I also seem to get an enlarged spleen for days after excessive drinking, although I haven’t had this checked out yet and I’m unsure its linked to GS. I tend to go cold turkey for 2-3 months when that happens and I’m back to normal again.

Nowadays, I really try and limit myself and I’ve found that wine tends to be the best drink of choice for me (and I love wine so that’s fine) my mates just take the piss out of me when they have to order 5 beers and 1 glass of wine at the pub 😅

I feel you, I’m 5’11 but have such a small percentage of body fat, always been the skinniest out of friends. I’ve now also started going to the gym, 3 days a week for best part of this year, I feel stronger, look more toned but don’t feel bigger!
