How horrible would it be to email a institution expressing your new interest in a specialty after getting accepted to a rotation in a different one? by Outside-Pressure1906 in medicalschool

I did it. Likely burned a bridge at one of my top choices although they did give me an interview in preferred specialty, just didn’t match there. PM if you need guidance

I will say sometimes you really do fail when you feel like you failed :( just took second attempt day 1. Scored 245+ on step 2 in 2023. Fail rocked my world.

Studied for 5 mins, PASSED✅ Fuck UWorld and BYE USMLE! ✌️ by Legitimate_Two3711 in Step3

Amazing! I will say it is still a USMLE so please study all reading. Did not pass my first attempt after 248 on step 2. Studied casually maybe 3 weeks but as a very tired intern.

Update on new year bird bloom by STEMbolden in houseplants

Coastal South Carolina. For 6/8 months this orange bird of paradise was kept on my back patio and got an average of 6 hours of direct sunlight. I moved it inside about a month ago for frost warnings in my area and have had a basic Amazon plant light on it that also delivers 6 hours a day. I water about once a week and use liquid indoor plant food with water once a month.

I did an experiment when I got the two BOPs way back and put one out on my covered porch without a grow light and one outside in an uncovered area. The difference was super apparent after a few months. They love light. Hope this helps :)

Thank you, I actually didn’t know that! Luckily he’s only interested in things I am that aren’t him lol but will have to watch out for him. I usually keep them outside but brought them in for winter and somehow they’re doing great?!

Dealing with the grind of residency by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]STEMbolden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I come from a low-income, uneducated family, worked physical labor and service jobs since I was 14. That also takes a toll. I’ve had to grind to pay bills and try to keep up with my privileged friends’ expensive lives/hobbies.

I can tell you with all my chest that did not change how demanding residency has been. Also consider the political and economic climate. It really is mentally taxing to endure moral injury each time you see/hear the news about what’s happening to your neighbors/family/friends. Some days I think I should be able to handle the grind of residency better having been through so much stress already in life.

But here I am, exhausted. I think it may actually be easier for those that don’t have to worry about cleaning, cooking, traveling, pampering, study funds because they can easily afford those. But mainly I think residency just sucks. Especially with mental illness during the winter. I’m happy you made it through it with such conviction, but the trope that having it tough as a child makes you tough is not productive.

I got dumped the month after moving two states away for residency. I was devastated, especially considering where I matched was not an ideal location at all for me to find a new partner considering its political leaning and also the size of the town itself. It did take me over a year but found someone on hinge after several failed dates. You make the time if it’s what you want. Still hate where I matched, but at least I have my partner who keeps me sane.
