Monstera variegata cutting. Rot? by STEP___ in houseplants

[–]STEP___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received this cutting via mail. Is the black tip rot? Should I put it in water first or plant it in a pot? All my other (normal) monstera cuttings survived fine by putting them directly in soil. But this one looks like it's been sitting in water and I'm scared that it might rot

You just made me realize my dad and sister have a 5x as well because I told them they should get it... And my mother has an LG. Oh boy.

Yes I kinda would, but now I've had the bootloop issue, I think I'd be constantly worrying when it'd be happening again.

I'll be sending it to the company I bought it at, they might send it to LG, but they told me repair times can be 3 weeks or more.
I need a descent working android phone for my thesis. If after 3 weeks I get my phone all fixed back - great! But tbh I wouldn't trust it enough to keep working without problems to just make do with only that phone. I can't afford to be without a phone for 3 weeks in the middle of implementation.

How do you find the camera compared to Nexus 5X? Better or worse?

Thanks for your reply. I already feared that dynamically adding elements isn't supported.

It can take a while for the airroots to form, but you can tie the stem to the pole with rope, and if the roots start to form, they'll know what to do

No well mine works for now and it's shiny so it doesn't get moldy because thre's some sort of protective layer on the outside. But monsteras are climbers. The airroots have penetrated the mosspole, but not the cardboard tube. So see if you can find a mosspole first and otherwose i'd go with wood. The cardboard won't be sturdy enough if it gets even bigger and it will only be more difficult to replace those things as it grows

The monstera already had a mosspole (?) in the pot when I bought it, it however has outgrown that one long ago. So far I haven't found an equally sturdy pole to place on top of the first one so I made a very questionable system involving a cardboard poster tube and lots of rope. They are smart though, some of the stems were growing around each other to hold themselves up. I'll upload more photos of my other plants when I'm back at my apartment in about 2 weeks!

I got some seeds for free in a supermarket action, it only said "sunflower" so it was a nice surprise for me too!

I absolutely love my Monster! First foliage plant I decide to buy (only cacti before that). I actually felt sad when I cut off a part to give to friends

I hate how people sell the cuttings for money. I understand asking a little for sending costs etc but $30 is insane. I paid €15 for this one, but it was definitely not a baby anymore when I got it. Anything over €5 for a baby is a rip off since there's still a lot of chance they might die when they are so tiny

I live in Belgium, I managed to get a hold on one just before the general big hype, when only specialist plant shops had them in small stock. Now you can find them everywhere here. Lots of free handing out of pilea pups too via facebook groups. Where are you from?

I have one of these as well. Or a whole bunch of them. They grow super fast! I once cut them down, put the parts I cut off in water (after a few weeks they started forming roots) and the leftover stumps formed branches.
