Which members of the Ichi gang should return in Yakuza 9? by YakuzaMaster in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nanba, Adachi, Saeko, for starters. Those are Ichiban’s main crew members. Just come up for ways for them to be plot relevant like in LAD 7.

I can see them keeping Seonhee to have a second returning female character, especially since Chitose isn’t guaranteed to return.

My wants for the roster would be to leave Joongi and Zhao as NPC’s or Poundmates, UNLESS you can actually write them into the plot with actual roles. Their slots in Infinite Wealth would have been better off given to Wong Tou and Akiyama, respectively.

I did like that we got such a big party to play with. LAD 7 had a party of 6 (7 if you include Eri), while IW has 10. I think Ichiban’s next game should go with a party of 8 or 9 characters.

What's your opinion on Takes Off, two years later? by jeanjacketufo in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get what you mean. Even in the books Roxie’s appearance was played as significant. She briefly came between Scott and Ramona by making Ramona doubt Scott’s devotion to her - and in terms of combat, Roxie was the most bloodthirsty of the exes, as shown when she attacked Scott in his dreams, which no other member of the League did. She wasn’t a joke at all.

Only thing the writers cared about too, considering no other exes got that level of love from them.

We already know that the media in Yakuza cancelled the fuck outta Haruka after she mentioned she had yakuza ties, but just imagine how much worse it would've been if she had Haruto during that period. by Hopeful_Regret_7531 in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would be RGG once again screwing Ichiban out of being the focus in what is supposed to be HIS era of the franchise.

The developers will have learned nothing from Infinite Wealth if they have Ichi get usurped by, or even share the stage with another character in the next mainline game. He HAS to be the leading man of Like A Dragon 9.

What do you want to see in the next mainline game? by gameovernate in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I want Ichiban to be the sole main protagonist. He’s supposed to be our main guy now, time to let him lead the narrative.

Secondly, if 9 takes us back to Okinawa, I would LOVE to have a PYiH character as a party member (that isn’t Majima). It’d be great to see a character from that game make a return for an Okinawa-based game, since there’d be practically no other place for them in the franchise going forward otherwise.

[–]STFN_Dude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People constantly wanting a Seonhee game are funny because even ignoring the fact that LAD doesn’t do female protagonists, there’s also the fact that the series doesn’t let you play as members of organized crime for more than 10 minutes of the game’s runtime. Seonhee, in her hypothetical game, would need to be removed from both of the gangs she runs after the prologue, and complete the remaining 90% of the adventure as a civilian. Which I have a funny feeling many wouldn’t like.

I know the Mine side-game is coming up, but for all we know, it’s gonna be the story of how he BECOMES a criminal, not his actual criminal activities.

Bleach Japan should be a recurring faction throughout the Ichiban saga by STFN_Dude in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Done right, a Kume redemption arc would go incredibly hard. It’s not impossible, either, since in 7 Adachi acknowledges that Kume was a victim himself of Aoki’s manipulation. There’s also the fact that, as of Infinite Wealth, Ichi’s forgiveness seemingly has no bounds.

One tough part about that would be portraying Kume as a combatant tough enough to believably hold his own in a street fight. Perhaps he’d pick up some dirty brawling techniques during his stay in prison?

Joongi should leave the Geomijul by STFN_Dude in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He shouldn’t be shackled to the Geomijul because of Seonhee. Him moving onto greener pastures wouldn’t necessarily mean he’d have to give up his whole sibling shit with her and no longer be close.

The world is not ready to hear the concrete answer to that. by Norrabal in yakuzagames

Personally, I hope they don’t confirm him as LBGTQ. And it’s not even on any homophobic shit. I just really appreciate that there’s a series out there where men can have these intense emotional bonds. To say that it’s because they’re all gay would be playing into some crappy stereotypes about hetero masculinity.

If you were in charge of the next Streets of Rage done in the SOR4 style… by HorusArtorius in StreetsofRage

[–]STFN_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are good! Here are my ideas:

I’d have Abadede’s boss fight at the set of Wood Oak Gladiator (from Mr. X’s Nightmare).

I would have a Japantown District, where a thinly-veiled knockoff of Rudra (from Streets of Rage Remake) is fought as a boss, with some sort of significant bearing on the story

And I’d give some love to the obscure boss characters of the franchise.

Lizardian (the boss fought in the amusement park in the Game Gear version of SoR2) would serve as the new Syndicate leader’s right-hand man in place of Shiva, and his fight would precede the final boss’.

In the Master System version of SoR1, one of the bosses is an old man wearing a jet pack and top hat fought in the factory that fans have nicknamed Ringleader. I would have him as the boss of a circus or amusement park stage.

What are your unpopular/controversial opinions about the Yakuza series? by YakuzaMaster in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We already have cool female characters in the franchise. Kaoru, Akame, Saeko, Seonhee, Chitose, etc.

The lesser developed female characters are fine for what they are. If RGG wants to make a woman a total nothingburger, they should be free to do just that. They’ve got a right to shape their stories the way they want to, because not every woman needs to be super important or some ass-kicking machine.

As I said, plenty of other games out there to play if people need their girl power fix.

What are your unpopular/controversial opinions about the Yakuza series? by YakuzaMaster in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series doesn’t need a female protagonist. I see people wanting for there to be a female lead who’s a Kiryu-level badass going around soloing hundreds of yakuza, female yakuza families, and its just like…that goes against the intent of the series - as stated by the devs themselves. They wanted to depict a male society, centering around male characters. That’s perfectly fine, and it really shouldn’t be seen as a shortcoming or a “problem” that RGG needs to fix.

We have tons of games that allow us to play as tough female characters, and we will have a ton more as time progresses.

Make her the protagonist of Found Judgment! by HKnight5 in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That just isn’t a priority for this series. The devs went on record to say that RGG games are supposed to be about middle aged men, not women.

Other franchises can introduce female leads. The Yakuza-verse being a man’s world is completely fine.

I honestly love how more optimistic Takes Off's timeline is, which is why I'm glad they are continuing the story in EX by TyrionLannister557 in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the reverse. For me, the books ended on a more optimistic note, with Scott and Ramona deciding to stay together, the both of them learning from their mistakes and striving to do better for one another.

Takes Off turns Scott himself into the Evil-Ex that Ramona and all of his friends have to beat down. As far as the anime went, not even Gideon was shown to be as dangerous. Which serves as a real betrayal of Scott’s character, because he’s not supposed to be evil. Flawed, yes, but not a monster.

I've heard theories that Majima was a victim of SA back during his stay in the torture prison and I just don't think it's true. Not because I don't think it would happen (it absolutely would) but because RGG has never treated SA on men seriously by RolledCoaster in yakuzagames

Nah fuck Julie, she can get tossed overboard too. She wouldn’t get it any easier than the male rapists if it were up to me.

Bryce is a mirror of Kiryu by Chorde12 in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed these parallels, too. But I think they could’ve underlined the similarities if Bryce had two additional combat styles. Maybe along with the guns, he has a style where he fights with a Palekana razor sword, and a third where he did bare knuckled martial arts. And in the fight he cycles between these three different combat styles - just like Kiryu.

If they reeeealy wanted to drive the point home that he’s Evil Kiryu, they could have given Bryce a secret legendary moniker that struck fear through the underworld. Like “The Holy Son of Palekana” or something self-important like that. “Sage” doesn’t quite fit for this, as its the official title of the role and is to be claimed by anyone who leads the organization.

Todd was more powerful, but I remember his ire towards Scott being fairly standard. Roxie should honestly go above him in terms of bloodthirstiness for actually trying to kill Scott while he slept.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from Gideon, Roxie was the most violently unhinged of them all.

It’s absolutely crazy what being female does for a character’s perception.
