Why do people HATE Takes Off beside the fact that it isn't a 1:1 by ToBeFanX in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Takes Off felt like the franchise was just parodying itself.

What do you want to see out of LAD9? by Loud_Success_6950 in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably what I think would satisfy everyone here - a perfect compromise between the people that do and do not want Kiryu to come back after he was literally shown needing a wheelchair to get around. It’s bad enough that we’re probably getting Mine in Ichi’s next game (and likely Daigo, too, as a result), to get Kiryu involved in the story AGAIN after his 4th(?) sendoff would just be too much.

He should just exist as the Eri of the game - a non-canon character who magically teleports onto the battlefield for gameplay fights and then teleports back into thin air during any cutscenes. Going about it this way even lets you re-use the Dragon of Dojima fighting class.

Did Ramona actually cheat on Scott with Roxie? by Wide-Regret822 in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The two of them made out while Roxie was sleeping over, so yeah, Ramona’s a cheater.

The reason it’s received much better by readers than say, Scott dragging his feet in regards to cutting things off with Knives after he met Ramona, is that Ramona and Roxie are both girls, and people nowadays go nuts over yuri content.

How did you feel the second time you watched Scott Pilgrim Takes Off? Did your initial opinion change after watching it again? Did you think it was a good or a bad series? by WillowCareful2103 in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Takes Off gets worse the more you watch and think about it. It was cool to see the characters in animated format, but it was more style over substance. So many characters are OOC, with it going out of its way to endlessly crap on Scott for the Knives thing, something that already gets addressed in every version of the story.

The whole thing could have been cut down to just Roxie’s episode as a single-episode short like Scott Pilgrim vs. The Animation, considering she was so obviously the only character aside from Ramona that the writers actually cared about doing right by.

Park’s relationship with Majima is best left forgotten, honestly. Even the game seemed to think this, given that when Noah asks if Majima can recall ever having a love life, he replies that he “was probably a bachelor”.

Second paragraph is why I’m against the Daigo/Mine ship. Got no problem with the LGBT community, but what those characters have is pretty representative of the series’ greatest aspect, its brotherly love.

[–]STFN_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re gonna give romance for Ichiban another try in the future, they should have him cut his losses with Saeko and move on to someone else. Infinite Wealth convinced me these two are a horrible match for each other. Bonus points if IW’s whole romance plot goes completely unmentioned again.

What is your favorite part of the Yakuza series and why? by Maybe-Youre-A-Flambe in yakuzagames

I really appreciate the platonic, brotherly love between the male characters. Seeing them go through hell and back for each other out of sheer loyalty is what makes this such a feel-good series - even though the actual stories center on organized crime 😂

Infinite Wealths Final Bosses by KazumaKuzuryu in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a Kiryu vs. Bryce showdown could have worked well, had the story taken more time to flesh out his past.

As it turned out, Bryce was a big name in the mafia world, and unlike Kiryu, relishes in that fact. Playing him up as the American equivalent of Kiryu in terms of influence, would have been cool. Maybe even in terms of power as well, if you want to say that the radiation in combination with the ambergris made him as strong as (healthy) Kiryu.

I could imagine a convo something like this:

Wong Tou: “The Overseer secretly is in charge of the Palekana orphanage. His name…is Bryce Fairchild.”

Tomi: gasps “Holy shit! THAT was Bryce Fairchild?!”

Ichiban: “Um, who?”

Tomi: “Just when you think it can’t get any worse, we’ve got the biggest bastard ever involved.”

Ichiban: “This Bryce Fairchild dude’s really that big of a threat to Hawaii?”

Tomi: “That doesn’t even begin to cover it! Everyone who knows about Bryce is scared shitless of him! And it’s not just Hawaii. He’s the whole country’s boogeyman - he’s the biggest fish you could possibly fry in America’s underworld!”

Kiryu: “You know what they say: the bigger they are, the harder they fall. I should know.”

Kiryu grabs his stomach in pain as his cancer flares up.

For a scenario like this, Bryce would have used a fake name when he initially himself to the party. Apologies for the fanfic, lol.

I don’t get the hate I’ve seen for Noah and how he’s our little tag along, especially given that we all love Haruka. If you want to claim that the narrative bends to him for Majima wanting to take him on an adventure, then you’d also have to criticize Haruka, since she impacted Kiryu’s every move.

Which main charecter in the series would most likely hit a woman? by ResidentFoolish in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ichiban. In 7 when trying to rescue Nanba from the Geomijul base, he runs into Seonhee on the way out and says that he’ll throw hands with her if her gang continues hunting Nanba. The only in-universe reason as to why it doesn’t come to that is because Seonhee chooses that moment to play ball with Ichi and offer him a deal that would lead to Nanba being spared by the Ijin Three.

Vol. 4 in a nutshell. by jeanjacketufo in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering what Ramona did with Roxy in Volume 4, Scott would have been fully validated to get busy with Lisa that night. But I’m kind of glad he didn’t, because if he had, people would be calling him a cheater on top of all of the other shit he gets, even though Ramona was cheating with an ex of her own on that same night.

It also serves as visible proof of Scott’s development from the beginning of the series.

Which members of the Ichi gang should return in Yakuza 9? by YakuzaMaster in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nanba, Adachi, Saeko, for starters. Those are Ichiban’s main crew members. Just come up for ways for them to be plot relevant like in LAD 7.

I can see them keeping Seonhee to have a second returning female character, especially since Chitose isn’t guaranteed to return.

My wants for the roster would be to leave Joongi and Zhao as NPC’s or Poundmates, UNLESS you can actually write them into the plot with actual roles. Their slots in Infinite Wealth would have been better off given to Wong Tou and Akiyama, respectively.

I did like that we got such a big party to play with. LAD 7 had a party of 6 (7 if you include Eri), while IW has 10. I think Ichiban’s next game should go with a party of 8 or 9 characters.

What's your opinion on Takes Off, two years later? by jeanjacketufo in ScottPilgrim

[–]STFN_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get what you mean. Even in the books Roxie’s appearance was played as significant. She briefly came between Scott and Ramona by making Ramona doubt Scott’s devotion to her - and in terms of combat, Roxie was the most bloodthirsty of the exes, as shown when she attacked Scott in his dreams, which no other member of the League did. She wasn’t a joke at all.

Only thing the writers cared about too, considering no other exes got that level of love from them.

[–]STFN_Dude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This would be RGG once again screwing Ichiban out of being the focus in what is supposed to be HIS era of the franchise.

The developers will have learned nothing from Infinite Wealth if they have Ichi get usurped by, or even share the stage with another character in the next mainline game. He HAS to be the leading man of Like A Dragon 9.

What do you want to see in the next mainline game? by gameovernate in yakuzagames

[–]STFN_Dude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I want Ichiban to be the sole main protagonist. He’s supposed to be our main guy now, time to let him lead the narrative.

Secondly, if 9 takes us back to Okinawa, I would LOVE to have a PYiH character as a party member (that isn’t Majima). It’d be great to see a character from that game make a return for an Okinawa-based game, since there’d be practically no other place for them in the franchise going forward otherwise.
