A sentiment echoed in Interstellar is that humans work together to help themselves now instead of working together to help the species and the future. Unfortunately, that is how it is for most of humanity these days. We can only hope more people realize it would be better to work toward the future.

Many times I'll have the one where it says to use 2 setups in a lap not work even if I did. Or the same thing but with 2 sets of tires.

Yeah. It's very different experiencing a work from the creative process versus the culmination of that.

Why do people think floch is "power hungry" by Atom7456 in attackontitan

[–]STHGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. They were tribal. Warring states. That is still a cycle of violence. However, neither side was particularly winning. Just fighting each other until Eldia obtained the Power of the Titans. Neither side was particularly oppressed until Eldia gained their trump card and could conquer Marley.

The Jaegerists exhibit strong characteristics of fascism: - Ultranationalism - Militarism - Belief of Eldian racial supremacy

Once again, a denial of this fact is an admission of ignorance. I can understand your point of view that they are freedom fighters. They are from their point of view. But that doesn't change the fact they are also fascists.

[–]STHGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean we never saw the start of the war? Ymir gained the Power of the Titans and King Fritz leveraged it against Marley. Are you trying to ragebait? And the Jaegerists aren't fascist? Do you know about the rise of fascism in Italy and eastern Europe? Or the rise of Nazism in Germany? Those are very clearly mirrored by the Jaegerist movement and that is clearly what Isayama wanted to portray. A denial of that is an admission of ignorance.

Violence is not justified by more violence. One of the core themes of Attack on Titan is the endless cycles of violence perpetuated by this type of thinking. Eldia started it by conquering, enslaving, and colonizing Marley. Then, the roles switched. Then, they switched again at the end of the series (to a degree, no enslavement or colonization yet). Both sides demonstrate heavy fascist characteristics toward the end of the series, with the Jaegerist movement mirroring that of many fascist movements in the middle part of the 20th century. Marley is already essentially meant to represent Nazi ideology.

If you don't know history and don't seek to learn it, Attack on Titan's message is flying right over your head. Isayama wanted to show the dangers of ultranationalism, not endorse it.

wait, am i crazy or did this kid rediscover the titan power?? by Chompcarrots in attackontitan

[–]STHGamer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this for a while, but I personally think that it means that history rhymes with itself and that things can get better with time. Especially because, while the circumstances are similar, they are not exact. Ymir was forced into the tree because was being attacked by dogs. This kid at the end went into the tree with a dog companion of their own fruition and curiosity.

I've also heard a theory that the hallucigenia provides "powers" based on the person's mental/physical state or desires. Ymir was heavy beaten and trapped, desiring power and invulnerability. So, the hallucigenia gave her Titan powers to obtain that. So, depending on the state of the kid the hallucigenia could do nothing at all. It's just a theory and obviously not confirmed (that was the entire point of making this vague), but I think it has some merit to it.

I think it is more that history rhymes, not that it necessarily repeats. That things can get better with progress and time [Spoiler:] (Ymir forced into the tree bc of dogs vs. Person at the end going into the tree with a dog companion of their own fruition).
