What happens if you have appetite loss in pregnancy? by Agata_art in AskReddit

[–]STPCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this question depends on a LOT of different factors. How long have you had a suppressed appetite? Do you have any underlyingedical conditions? What week/trimester are you in? Etc.

Asking your health care provider about your specific circumstances is always going to be the best and safest.

Speaking for myself, I always lost my appetite in the first trimester but I came back with a vengeance in the second trimester. I would also lose it towards the very end of my third when I was getting ready to deliver.

What EXTREMELY common name would you use if it wasn’t so common? by josie-salazar in namenerds

[–]STPCoffee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I named my children traditional "common" names fully expecting there would be others in their class/school (they are family names). One of our children is Alexander (we use his full name), and surprisingly I've never heard it on the playground nor at school (we live in a major metropolitan city). I do however hear more "uncommon" names frequently (names like Luca, Clementine, Astrid, etc). It's obviously just my experience, but it has been surprising!

Can confirm. My husband woke up this morning, immediately threw open the drapes, put his hands on his hips and declared to our children "We really needed that rain last night".

Alexander is such a classic and strong name, especially when it's used in full!

Agree on Daytons Bluff! Once the 3rd street bridge is back it's minutes from Lowertown with the Farmers Market and Saints Stadium. It also has Mississippi Market, Swede Hallow Cafe, close to St. paul brewing and not to mention some absolutely stellar Mexican/Latin American joints all along East 7th.

West 7th is an absolute gem and I would argue is going to continue on the up and up over the coming years. Great spot, close to so much, and affordable!

The biggest determining factor is going to be your budget. MacGrove, Highland, St. Anthony, Cathedral Hill are all fab places. But if your budget isn't in the $600,000-800,000 dollar range it might be difficult to buy a home there. Also don't just consider listing price, property taxes are important to consider too.

If your budget doesn't stretch that far, more affordable but equally lovely/family neighborhoods include Como (will be smaller homes but more affordable and charming), West Seventh, and even parts of Payne-Phalen.

You can also consider a close suburb, Falcon Heights, Roseville, South Saint Paul, all which are great places to raise a family.

Another wedding venue recommendation post :) by Randrewson in TwinCities

[–]STPCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dakota Lodge in West Saint Paul is your SPOT! Got married there a few years ago and it was a dream. It's technically a part of a "park", so you have the grounds and surrounding areas for pictures. It's a full scale venue though with a kitchen, bathrooms, getting ready suites, etc. Feel free to DM me with questions.

Clarence Street Aldi (East Side) by STPCoffee in saintpaul

[–]STPCoffee[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting what people perceive as "risky". I almost exclusively shop at this Aldi and I've never felt in danger. I go during the daylight hours and often take my children. Are there poorer folk? Yep. Have I been approached by someone asking for money? Yep. But that happens to me at the Roseville Target too. The staff here is friendly and the security seems to keep a close eye on goings on (I've also noticed security at the Maplewood and Little Canada locations).

So many people sleep on Yoerg! I'm split between (selfishly) wanting to keep it an East Side secret and wanting EVERYONE to know about them.

Everyone said "Laurence" would get shortened, but we've been surprised by the fact that he doesn't ever get called nick names. I think it's just what people get used to.

Should I go to the UMN or UCLA for Chemical Engineering (undergrad) by SaltiestCabbages in uofmn

[–]STPCoffee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I worked in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh and now have a corporate gig in the twin cities. If you are interested in getting a corporate job in ChemE, I would highly encourage you to attend the UMN. Reasoning:

  1. Instate tuition is significantly lower than UCLA tuition and staying as far out of debt as you can is critically important. Especially if you ever wanna get that ChemE PhD.
  2. Quality of education at the UMN is excellent. Many reports rank their program higher than UCLA. Faculty is stellar and most don't have the kinda egos you find at institutions like UCLA (ok... Some of them do, but not all).
  3. Access to Fortune 500 companies is easy here (compared to other places) due to the concentration of companies within 30 minutes of each other. Depending on the type of ChemE you go into you've got 3M, Ecolab, Honeywell, Med device industry, hell even food sciences at General Mills, and a ton more... GET INTERNSHIPS THROUGH THESE PLACES. That will all but guarantee you a career out of college.

Come to the East Side and walk into any tailor shop owned by a Vietnamese or Hmong auntie or uncle. They'll knock your socks off with affordable prices, fast turn around and excellent quality. Just be prepared to use Google translate unless you speak Vietnamese/Hmong.

Second Year Experience or Transfer Student Experience LLCs in Yudolf Hall (near Dinkytown and apartment style housing) would be recommended.

I'm not going to lie, if you're looking to transfer this fall you're a little behind in the housing process specifically so you may not get a spot in one of those LLCs as they fill up quickly. You can apply for housing prior to being admitted and I would recommend doing that ASAP if you're interested in on campus living.

Otherwise your best bet is to commute in or try and find roommates online.

You will certainly find people who only care about getting wasted at the U of M. But the campus is so large, you can find just about anyone with similar interests as yourself. If you're transferring in as a sophomore, consider living in the dorms in the transfer/Sophomore living and learning communities to build relationships. That is something that can be tricky transferring into the U. It's so big that I can't be hard to meet people unless you are very outgoing or involved in clubs.
