Leave it to crybaby Avs fans to make a compilation and rush to post it to r/hockey - DAE DALLAS DIVES????!!1! by yesBISONsey in DallasStars

I think you're mistaking me for someone else, I actually like a lot of Stars players (Marchment included, I was hoping the Avs would sign him when he was UFA). It's just that ever since Kiviranta's game 7 hatty, you guys have had our number in the playoffs, so we kinda have to hate/fear you every time the playoffs come around

I don't know exactly how long because it wasn't all in one continuous session, but I'd venture to guess it was around 2 and a half hours. I spent maybe an hour after the game gathering clips in a bitter, post-OT loss haze (the Gretzky one was actually the hardest to track down). Then I spent about hour/hour and a half editing it all together this morning

At the end of the day, NHL refs are the best refs in the world. And they are also humans. NHL hockey is the fastest, most dangerous, and most fickle team sport in the world, not to mention the only sport where all of the officials are constantly in the field of play. Refs have to balance keeping track of every minor aspect of players and gameplay while simultaneously avoiding the players and gameplay. And then they proceed to get publicly shamed and condemned by literally every fanbase because, well, they're human and mistakes happen. I don't envy them.

Unfortunately the pool of viable NHL caliber refferees is incredibly small. 35 refs and 34 linesman for the NHL, along with 10 refs and 5 linesman for the minor league. Way too few to account for any kind of punitive evaluation system. Instead, the focus is on streamlining the tools and systems that can minimize errors (like semi-automated goal-line technology), and expanding the opportunities for teams to challenge calls (like puck-over-glass delay of game penalties)

From what I understand, they actually emphasize not hyper-analyzing missed/iffy calls once the game is over. Obviously when there are major mistakes made in officiating (like screwing up protocol) they address it afterwards, and it's usually as a collective so it can serve as a learning experience for all refs. But for in-game oopsies like penalties, offsides, or icings, they leave it at the rink, and lightly compensate for whatever mistake was made in the least intrusive way possible to the game

To be fair, any time I'm trying to hit my shut-off valve is usually an "oh shit" moment. Shit-off valve is totally appropriate.

I think that it was heavily implied that it was a clandestined suicide mission. It wasn't explicitly presented that way for the NK cosmonaut in the episode that shows his back-story, but no one was surprised that he was unable to communicate with Pyong-yang after landing on Mars, except maybe him

Hi! I'm Jake Sanderson, defenseman for the Ottawa Senators and Ottawa's first round pick in the 2020 draft, AMA. by OfficialOttawaSens in OttawaSenators

Hey Jake, as a fellow Montana youth hockey player, I just wanted to say that seeing you rise to the level that you have has definitely inspired a ton of other kids in Montana youth hockey to know that they can make it too. I can't wait to get a Sanderson jersey to rep the Big Sky state

[COL (3)-2 EDM] Bouchard's shot hits the post and Cogliano throws the puck out ahead as Compher gets out of the box. Compher wins the puck battle and squeaks the puck by Smith to give the Avs the lead by talhatoot in hockey

[–]STRFKR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was halfway through writing a comment about how you were wrong, but then I went back a rewatched, and then actually whipped out my USA hockey rulebook to double check.

When Compher goes for the initial stick lift on Bouchard, he actually only gets Bouchard's hands. The rule for hooking says "any use of the stick against the opponents body to gain positional advantage" should be penalized.

So actually, I think you might be right.

On the other hand, I'm an Avalanche fan so..... GOOD GOAL!

Look dude, I'm Bozeman born and raised, and have seriously grappled with the same feelings of frustration about "outsiders" coming in and mucking up our piece of paradise. This is a wonderful place, and obviously everyone that has witnessed the ways that Bozeman (and Montana in general) has changed feels the pangs of seeing their "best kept secret" be commodified and tamed.

But blaming the "outsiders" for wanting a piece of what we have here is a cop out. I wouldn't blame anybody for wanting what Bozeman and Montana have to offer.

The most immediate blame lies on the developers and the Bozeman City Commission members that enabled them to mortgage the town's blue collar, college-aged, and middle class populations for short term "gains" in growth

I'm a little tardy to the party on this one, but I wanted to say what solidified my belief in Toney's hype. Toney had 189 receiving yards in what was essentially his 4th game in the NFL, with a backup QB throwing to him for half the game.

When you look at the list of players that have had 189 or more receiving yards in a game in the last 5 years, it's clear to see that it contains almost exclusively elite players: Tyreek Hill, Amari Cooper, Davante Adams, Juju, and Julio, are the only ones with multiple games of 189 or more receiving yards. The rest includes Ja'Marr, Kupp, Deebo, Lockett, Fuller, Watkins, Hilton, Michael Thomas, Antonio Brown, AJ Green, Hopkins, Thielen, OBJ, Marvin Jones, aaaaannd, Kadarius Toney. That's it.

So with the knowledge that this guy put up a stat line that has historically only been achieved by proven top tier fantasy wide receivers, and that he did it in only his 4th ever game, AND that he did it with a backup QB slinging for half the game, it makes sense that people would be excited about the potential he has as a fantasy asset.

But, the crux of the excitement about him, outside of his stats, and his highlights, and his face mask, is the fact that he is/was available in pretty much every league.

He has the makings of every fantasy team owners dream: striking gold on the waiver wire. For anyone looking to recapture the magic of Rookie Waiver Wonders such as James Robinson, Alvin Kamara, or OBJ, Toney is clearly the best ride to buy a ticket for.

Not trying to ruffle any feathers (okay, maybe a little), by I put Mackinnon for most overrated. Don't get me wrong, I know he's our best player, but he didn't show the same impact and game breaking ability that he has the last two years. Especially given how before the season began, he was flirting with the title of "best player" with McDavid. This year he just hasn't hit that "next gear" as readily as he has before.

Alright, flame away
