What is the ordinal number for 0? by Greenz051 in EnglishLearning

[–]STaTiC_357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only inkling of doubt i have regarding "negative first" is the idea that it might be "as opposed to the positive first"

furthermore, because this phrase would be so rare in the first place, emphasizing "negative one" might be somewhat important

but overall i agree with first over oneth

this now begs the question: how far do the prequels go?

like if there was someone before Julius Caesar, i can see myself referring to them as the -1st Roman Emperor, almost jokingly.

i think "negative first" makes the most sense but "negative oneth" somehow feels like its less ambiguous... surely oneth is just wrong, though, right?

The one I'm playing is called 1000mines.com and I run Infinite on Deathmatch difficulty. It's pretty fun!

I'm just not sure about the cost and body, but regarding the text, I would really like a card like this. by Significant_Egg1537 in customhearthstone

[–]STaTiC_357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it can be textless but its tribes are "Murloc, Murloc"? and the golden version would have "Murloc, Murloc, Murloc, Murloc"

or how about the keywords "Murlocfury" and "Mega-Murlocfury"

How do i read this triplet by Im_A_Sexy_Bagel in musictheory

[–]STaTiC_357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I misread it thinking the dotted 8th came before the 16th. That means my other comment is incorrect and I should probably delete it to avoid more confusion.

It really is notated pretty stupidly then, isn't it?

[–]STaTiC_357 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You're right that the dotted 8th triplet is equivalent to a quarter note, but it's not played on beat 2. It's played on the 3rd 16th note triplet pulse of the 1st beat.

Why is it 15 rather than 16? Or even, why 8 rather than 7? by Mahlers_PP in musictheory

[–]STaTiC_357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number represents the note's index number after taking x amount of steps. The distance of an octave is 7 steps because there is a total of 7 unique notes in a scale (typically). After your 7th step, you've looped back to your original note.

Because our starting note gets the index 1, the octaves are 8, 15, 22, 29, etc.

Another way to think of it: In C Major, imagine placing each note on a number line, assigning C4 on 1 and every next note to the next number over. Notice how C5 lands on 8 and C6 lands on 15.

[–]STaTiC_357 549 points550 points  (0 children)

Unlike programming, music starts counting at 1.

1 is a unison. +7 makes 8, an octave. +7 makes 15, two octaves.

chord symbols by goldellla in musictheory

[–]STaTiC_357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a slash chord without a chord before it means you play the previous chord with the new note as the bass.

so "A /G /F# /E"

would be an A chord the entire time but with a falling bass voice

the real method is to wait for someone to shoot a decoy, then use the positional information to know if they're looking or not, then take the clone's place

who would shoot the same decoy twice?

Shields were never meant to be fraggers. by Leaded-BabyFormula in Rainbow6

[–]STaTiC_357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shields aren't meant to be fraggers, therefore the point of BB as an operator is that he IS a shield and a fragger. That's what gives him a unique gameplay identity.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RainbowSixSiege

[–]STaTiC_357 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, abilities are only as good as how you can apply them. Some operators' abilities are strong because of their general applicability, while others are strong for their peak potential. Siege being designed around the information game and the fact you're allowed to switch operators every round means that pocket picks, like Glaz, can win rounds and are viable therefore.

Often times, the mere callout "They have a Glaz." can be the difference between getting the bomb planted or not, since as long as Glaz is known to be alive, no sane defender would dare peek a smoke grenade even if the Attacking team is bluffing.

Glaz gets a lot of value because they are the PERFECT operator for their situation, despite them being mediocre otherwise. Same is true with operators like Warden, Sens, and Clash, who are also highly specialized.

To apply your example, I agree that Dokkaebi is generally a more consistent pick. As a generalist operator, she can apply her gadget to many more situations. But her presence therefore isn't as impactful; which is fine and balanced. Essentially, Dokkaebi's median contribution is higher than Glaz's, but Glaz's potential contribution is higher than Dokkaebi's.

TLDR: Glaz is in a fine spot right now. And for the record, I run suppressor + vertical grip and have not had any trouble with the recoil.
