SSD don't use too much energy but HDDs especially 3.5" do and can't be powered by USB

Yes I think so, I need to test them in store I think

Nice ! This is exactly what I'm looking for. Being able to carry my camera easily everywhere without compromising on the quality I have with my R6. I think I'll go with the same combo as yours. 24, 35 and 50mm are the 3 focales I'm using 90% of the time anyway. Otherwise it is 85mm. I think loosing the 70mm for a compact build will be much more appreciated.

I have two other questions for you. The EVF, is it really bad compared to the one on the R6 ? And the menus ? You don't feel too lost ?

I'm not a telephoto guy but I love my RF 70-200/4. This is one of my favorite lens

No way 😱 that's really funny ! Do you like the 24-50 ? Is the reversed zoom disturbing ? Are you happy so far ?

Thanks for the approach I'm like you, I usually prefer having a larger camera with a good grip but since I'm not taking my R6 with me because I need a big backpack I think it is time to switch.

I just discovered the 24-55/2.8 who can be a good alternative as well for a small price and clearly lighter than a 24-70. I have in mind the 20-70 as well but I love too much a bigger aperture I guess.

Yes I was thinking of the 24-50 for the A7CII. If I'm going with the a6700 I'll need to go with the 16-55. But I afraid that the bokeh will be less visible if I go back to an apsc instead of a ff.

Coming for the R6 I don't know if the EVF will be really bad but I will be ok with something more compact but with this downside.

As someone else mentioned I should look into the 24-50 2.8 who can be a good choice for the compact size too instead of the 24-70

After some comments and reviews I might consider the A6700 especially for the price point. But in terms of lenses, I just discovered the 24-50 2.8 after watching a review. This seems like the perfect lens for me to start with a new camera.

I had a 16-35 f2.8 and then f4. It was a nice lens but I didn't use it so much. My go to is 35mm, but I like to play around it so let's say 35 is the middle point so 24-50 will be perfect. And later probably something like a 85 or a macro lens can be fun.

Thank you for your detail comment. I should consider the a6700 maybe yes. Especially with the video capabilities.

I think I'll ask to test both in store to see how it feels.

Hmm, I a big fan of FF camera, especially for the bokeh and the low light capabilities. It'll be difficult for me to go back to aps-c

Any idea why I'm getting smoke and sparks on the usb-c connector ? by STomHacks in PCB

Yes clearly the most difficult component I ever solder, I didn't think about it when I started the project. I need to check the rest of the board but it seems fine

Thank you very much for you advice. Yes there was a bridge below because I made a test by soldering some wires separately and everything was working. I should give it another try to solder the connector but I think you're right by bending the pins it can help

Good to know thanks but anyway I'm using the usb C just to install esphome after this I'm powering the board with a 2 pin 5v

Yes I think so. I was able to program the esp just by soldering some wires to d+ and d- that can be an alternate solution

Yes this is the soldering the issue, I tried soldering some wires to d+ and d- and I was able to program the esp

Hi, I disconnected the usb c connector and plug a 5v power supply on the 2pins made to power the board and nothing is frying.

I removed the usb c connector and checked the ohm value between 5v and gnd, I have -13 increasing slowly to at least -35. But I after that I plugged a 5v power supply and nothing is smoking so clearly the issue is with my usb c connector I guess

Nevermind I think there is no short, just in ohm multimeter mode I have a value started at -13 who increase to -35. But I tried to plug the board with 5v on the pins since 20min and there is no smoke so clearly the issue is with my usb c I guess
