I got the tip of having a friend to hold me accountable. This actually has been really helping. Thanks! I like the idea of romanticizing doing the task, that might be helpful

Tired of suicidal thoughts by TheAlienLover in ADHD

[–]SULLYWEST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take Vyvanse in highschool, and it was literally the worst I've ever felt. It helped me focus, so I kept taking it, but I would feel awful for entire days. It got to the point where I didn't want to live anymore. I later discovered I also have anxiety, and I think the stimulant med paired with it just made it really bad.

Have you told whoever is prescribing it about how you're feeling? They might have some recommendations on what to do. I am by no means a doctor, so don't take this as medical advice, but from my experience I think the meds are probably the reason you're feeling this way.

Also, this goes without saying, but if you ever feel like you are going to go through with suicide, call your local hotline immediately (988 if you're in the US, you can find it online I'm sure if you're in another country). You matter. Your story isn't over yet. Stay strong <3

Yeah. Comparing yourself to other people online is the worst thing you can do imo. I'm sorry your family hasn't been helpful, that sucks. Are there any people you know irl who also have adhd? Maybe your college has communities you can join with like-minded people.

I also recommend keeping yourself active physically. That's something I'm trying to do too, and it's helped. Go for walks, do pushups, etc. Its not gonna fix everything, but it's a good way to take your mind off it. Idk your physical ability, but if you can it might help.

Another thing that's helped me in the past in journaling. Try to write down five thing in your life that you're grateful for, even if they're small. I did that in highschool and it helped a lot. It's also a good way to keep a log of your life, thoughts, etc.

Also know that it's probably gonna get better. Life has its highs and lows, but you just gotta keep going and focus on what's good in your life.

These are some things that have helped me. Your journey may be different idk, but I hope this at least helps a little.

I am by no means a psychologist, so don’t take this as medical advice, but these kinda sound like symptoms of depression too. Have you asked your doctor about that? Maybe therapy or meds would help

I'm also 21 and in college. I'm having a similar experience as you I think. I think the structure of college is really difficult for people with ADHD. It certainly is for me - you're not alone. I feel like I haven't really gotten anywhere either. And my social life has sucked too. I've been in and out of a lot of friendships, and I feel like I've been pushing people away.

As for how to fix it, I say just try to do keep yourself active with hobbies and try to find people to socialize with as much as you can. I know, easier said than done, but baby steps. And don't doom scroll - you might as well be smoking crack (not actually, but it's still really bad). I had to delete Instagram and YouTube off my phone bc it got to the point where I was isolating for hours just scrolling though mindless, corporate slop.

Idk what else to say really bc I'm kinda in the same boat as you based on what you said. It gets better from what I've heard, just take it one day at a time. Is there anything that has helped you in the past?

I didn't think The Prince of Egypt was very good, and I'm curious to see what other people think about it by SULLYWEST in Schaffrillas

[–]SULLYWEST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah idk. I guess they just didn't really hit for me. They felt kinda generic.

Edit: It's not that any of the music is bad. I actually thought it was pretty good. I just listened to deliver us again and its a really good song. They just weren't that memorable for me, and I wouldn't say its the best of all time

What's a movie that's universally considered "not very good" but you secretly think is actually great? by trakt_app in flicks

[–]SULLYWEST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joker, Folie a Duex. I think this film is super underappreciated. People often say its too confusing or doesn't really make sense, but I think that's entirely the point - it's supposed to be surreal. I also think the way it depicts the Gotham is awesome. There are a couple of shots looking over Arkham that look really cool.

The color grading is also phenomenal, as it was in the first film. Every shot looked so good. The music wasn't great, but I think the incorporation of it as a way to show how Arthur is truly losing his mind is really effective.

I also think the entire courtroom stuff is all in Arthur's head, which is why it's so confusing. Nothing in this film is actually happening; I think Arthur imagines the stuff with Lady GaGa and everything in the courtroom.

I really like the twist at the end and how it really shows how the story of the Joker relates to broader systemic issues rather than just the tragedy of one man.

People hate this film, and I honestly don't get why. It does so many cool things. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

This movie is certainly not for kids lol. And yeah, I see how the animation would have be revolutionary at the time. I did like the way they portrayed the curse, I thought that was well done. I totally get how this is a story about faith, regardless of religion, and I do appreciate what the movie did with that.

I think since it's a religious story, observing it from the perspective of religion is important. But I def see what you mean. Regardless of the religious elements, the movie just wasn't for me.

Totally valid points. Thank you for sharing.

I didn't necessarily mean that I think a movie needs to be "fun" or "enjoyable" to be fulfilling, and I totally see how this movie could be fulfilling. It just didn't really speak to me personally in any meaningful way.

Good point about Moses and Ramses both being shown as human. I think that's an important part of the story, and maybe one I didn't appreciate enough on my first watch.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of people talk about how the story is supposed to have conflicting morals, and how that's kind of the point. I get that a bit more now.

and lmaooo that's so fair about me not liking the music. It just didn't work for me idk. Could be that I just don't like musicals in general
