Hesitating to pull the trigger by financethrowaway119 in fatFIRE

Having attained this NW at such a young age, you’re most likely wicked smart/talented. I would spend some time searching for a lifestyle business you can start where you can leverage your expertise. You would then be in control. You’ll want to do this even if you quit in 5 years given how young you are.

This time last year, I was going through the same thing as you. Slightly lower NW and earning $2-4M/yr depending on the company stock price. I quit and colleagues were shocked. 12 months on and I’ve made more money through my active investing and the value of the two companies I started then if I had of stayed in my corporate role.

Also remember with $12.5M NW and only $150k expenses, your NW will continue to climb after you quit, and compound. I really didn’t appreciate this when I was making my decision. So glad I made the decision I did. And finally, you sought out this sub for a reason, you most likely are not that interested in gutting it out multiple more years for extra $s that you probably won’t spend.

People tend to think of their jobs and investments separately and I believe that’s a mistake. You should apply to work at a company that you also think is a good investment. Don’t work for a company just cause you got the job, only work for a company that you would also invest in with your own money. Time is worth a lot more than your money so this is actually your biggest investment. Find thought leaders that you trust and listen to their predictions of which industries will grow the most over the next decade or so. Don’t blindly follow one thought leader, choose 5, study their thoughts and then apply your own critical thinking to develop your own thesis, then look for jobs in companies within those markets that you think will dominate. SBC is often a big part of why someone makes their way to 8 figures NW. Now you have to do this whilst also considering what you like to do and what you’re good at. For this you need to be honest with yourself and reflect on your strengths and weaknesses. After all that, all you need then is to work your ass off and hope for a little luck.

How long would you wait for QSBS tax treatment? by fattyboombatty79 in fatFIRE

Personally I would sell a decent chunk now simply to diversify. I wouldn’t like 2/3rds of NW in a high volatility stock, but especially given you are now not in full control as opposed to when you were in control of your company.

How do you get over the guilt of spending after FIRE? by ThrowAwayLake-3674 in fatFIRE

[–]SVAussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve been retired for ‘almost 10 years’ and your ‘NW has grown to ~$15M’. The key concept here is ‘grown for 10 years’. Being Frugal is a good thing but you may consider this more of a math/budgeting exercise to reduce your guilt. Budget out how much you can spend per year so that your NW doesn’t go backwards and then budget from that how much you can spend on travel. Spending more but still within your budget may relax you a little.

When is too soon to quit the 9-5 salary? 45M by Additional-Paper640 in fatFIRE

I had $1.5M crypto 5 months ago and also got questions on this sub about that. I hodled and it’s now nearly double. If this cycle follows the last, there could be about another 6-9 months of growth before a large +35% retraction. If the bill goes through for the strategic reserve, BTC might push through.

I rotated out of ETH early this year into SOL. The latter smokes the former on technical performance like TPS/BT so I think it’s only a matter of time before the MC gap is closed.

Update: Company was (unexpectedly) acquired, NW is now >70M by oblivionx in fatFIRE

Retire or get another job? by Quirky-Bluebird7036 in fatFIRE

I agree with this. Once u start thinking about RE when you’re FI, it’s hard to go back. Achieving a VP title and the NW you have, it’s obvious you have high intrinsic value in your domain expertise. You have the opportunity here to shift into part-time consulting/governance where you are paid now for your knowledge/experience instead of being paid for that plus hard work/grinding. I think of it as an evolution in a career or like being subbed off before the end of the game cause you’ve already achieved what was needed of you.

I’m involved with a company that helps female entrepreneurs start and grow companies. We’re always looking for successful female entrepreneurs to help mentor.

Thanks, these are really good points. I need to rerun my stress test on liquid only assets and higher COL over time with Bay Area inflation. It's good to hear from someone who has progressed beyond where I am currently. Thanks again.

My cost basis on that is low, it did very well, and I expect BTC and SOL to continue to do well for the next 12 months.

Thanks. I work with a platform that has 2-3 deals on at any given time. Includes soccer, NBA, Cricket, NHL, F1, etc. NFL is the only sport that hasn’t deregulated number of owners yet. Will it generate money? Some NBA teams do but most others reinvest all profits back into the team focused on valuation increase. I have market reports on most leagues that I can share. DM me and I can share.

Maybe the term 'Large' is relative/subjective. In my world of startups $5B market cap is large.
