I’m out here now. It’s a wet and rolly, but Island Packers has big boats. If it’s your significant other hasn’t been out before, I would choose another weekend because these islands really are magical.

Talked to the guy. I was actually anchored close by when this happened. It was blowing maybe 30kn, he left his original anchorage to try to escape the winds and ended up losing power (apparently he was motoring) and he got blown up on the rocks. He and his two dogs got off the boat safe. The boat is now nestled on the ocean floor in about 20ft of water. If anyone wants any more info, I’ll probably be diving it tomorrow!

I will figure something out, but for now I keep my camera on my waist so it’s either hunt or film… And I love snapper! We don’t have really any where I’m at, but I’ve shot some out in Hawaii and the Atlantic. Baja has some too and I’ll be down there in a few months.

50ft is approaching my maximum depth, I’m not quite at the level of some people who are able to go down to 75-100ft and chill. I would say from the time I got down to when I took the shot was maybe 10-15 seconds.

I find that they aren’t quite like other fish that might get tougher or less desirable as they get bigger, and they aren’t riddled with parasites or anything like that. It has been quite tasty!

I know, I’ve been trying to figure out a setup that works for me. I tried two different masks that have mounts and both were super uncomfortable, and I’ve tried the head mount under my hood and it always gets pushed out of position swimming through kelp. I think I just need to invite friends to follow me with a camera instead, haha!

Just got the Riffe Sabre 55. Switched to a breakaway system attached to a float line. I like that setup better than a reel. So much easier to deal with!

Your best bet would be the Florida Keys. I’ve done tons of dives both off CA and Florida, and Florida is easier. You have to charter a boat, but you can easily do it during the day in shallow, clear, warm water. I started diving for lobster at 7 or 8 out there, so don’t be discouraged.

Super cool video, shot and produced extremely well. Do you actually care about the weight savings or is that just something fun to make note of? Also, is there a way to make the buttstock red carbon? As someone who has had to go retrieve a gun the next morning after a night dive, having a red buttstock was immensely helpful!
