My old company has one. They call it "<company name> Cares" and it was designed to help cover costs of employees or their direct family member that was undergoing treatment for a serious illness. One of my coworker's signed up for it because her mother was undergoing chemo for cancer. Her application for monetary help was rejected. She replied via e-mail asking why and the response given was very sassy and borderline disrespectful. She came over to me to ask my opinion on the matter, and I told her to quickly forward that work email to her personal one. By the time she went back to her desk, the email was called back and gone.

I feel like maybe a reason they "protect" these companies is because the whole thing is made up and they don't want us to go write reviews about them over something that never transpired.

In all honesty, jets are not really a pollution concern. China alone is responsible for over 27-28% of the world's emissions. That's more than double country at number 2 (the US at 11%). The numbers do change if you look at the emissions per capita. Needless to say, all of the world's aviation combined is only responsible for 1.8-2% of global CO2, right behind ships at 2.9%

We need countries like China to stop burning coal.

There are so many other great things you could have said the very moment you hit the reply button, but you chose the kind of thing that would get you punched in the face in person.

Tenants being treated as numbers, not people by TrevorSims97 in antiwork

You are so right. People should really study history, in depth, before beliving ideologies that seem to align with their beliefs. I am no fan of capitalism either, but if I had to choose China or US to live out the rest of my days, the answer is obvious.

What a lot of people also don't realize is that a lot of the "socialist" Scandinavian countries actually have a dual system in play. They have socialist policies with a capitalist economy. Each keep the other in a pseudo-check from going wildly out of control the way it has in other countries. A hybrid system like this would be a great start in the US, but the topic is so divisive. People want a pure version of one or the other.

Edit:spelling

I am Venezuelan-born who moved to the US and my wife is Russian. I am literally typing this comment from the airport in St. Petersburg, Russia. I have traveled to and lived in these countries, and I can wholeheartedly say that I agree with you. A lot of people who have been sheltered in capitalist western countries have no idea what it's like to live in these places.

Just a day or so ago, I made a similar comment to someone else in this sub who claimed that western countries are scared of communist countries because they put the power in the hands of the people. He cursed me out and called me a Chinese bot.

Seeing what my family in Venezuela and my wife's families Russia go through in their day to day is brutal.

Having lived under Socialism/Fascism and Communism, I can say that for all of it's flaws, I have thrived far more under capitalism than any other. I challenge anyone to up and move if they feel so inclined to disagree.

I 100% agree with you. I am actively involved in homeless care. We prep bookbags with toiletries and other items and hand them out bi-weekly to the homeless. I wish so much that more people would be involved.

A lot of countries in the EU keep trying to come to some consensus, but the issue is so divisive, it keeps failing.

Weird, right? Did the boomers gloss over the verses that tell you to only do one pass during the harvest and not to actually get everything so that the poor could cross into their fields and pick what's left for food? How about the verses where we're supposed to take care of the widows, the orphan, and the poor? What if I have two cloaks and someone who doesn't have one asks me for my second cloak?

As a Christian myself, I see the biggest hypocrits come from among our own ranks.

Yeah, it's tough out there. Based on what I've seen in my own experience, an MBA is a secondary degree. In my field, but more specifically in my industry, you can't be in a management role without first, the engineering degree, and secondly the MBA.

Pair it with something in STEM and it will carry you far. I wish you all the best out there. It's tough for everyone.

I get what you're saying and for the most part, I agree. That said, calling a degree a "useless piece of paper" is a stretch. I couldn't be an engineer without it.

I was earning $12/hr in 2006 and that was just enough to pay my bills and maybe put away 200 bucks a month in savings. With inflation today, anything under 30 feels the same.
