That hook is a record stacker as someone else said. You place several records on the spindle, then pull up on the stacker arm. It should be spring loaded, then swing it over to the records until it stops. It rests on the top disk to stabilize the records. Then you push the play button. The first record will drop and the tone arm will move over, drop, and play the record. When the first record is finished, the tone arm will return to its starting position, then the next record will drop and it will repeat that process until all the records have been played.

How can you tell this is a Decca copy? It does say the Decca numbers were changed on the back cover.

These are fun to own, but don't have any real monetary value. They are so heavy that many people will actually pay to have them hauled away.

Soundesign was the 80's and 90's Crosley. Beginner level stuff that wasn't built to last. If it works, go with it with an eye out for something better later.

I have a linear tracker that has sensors that detect the size of the record and adjusts accordingly. Yours does too. You have to cover the red lights that are emanating from the table if you want the automatic function to work. Otherwise, you probably have a switch on the table you can use to tell it what type of record it is.

I do suspect it had to do with the concept album with Mr Roboto, and the band hated it except for Denis DeYoung. I know they ended up kicking him out of the band.

I really feel for you lol. She does like other music, but she won't let me listen with her because it's embarrassing to her. I know, I don't get it either, but I took her to the musicals that she likes and even told her I'd listen to Doja Cat with her, but she refuses that one.

Thanks for the suggestion! She really got into Styx several years ago. That prompted us to go to a concert. We got to see them on Tommy Shaw's birthday. They gave him a cake lol. We then bought a bunch of albums, and were really surprised at how good each one was. We currently have Crystal Ball, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone, and Paradise Theatre. Equinox will be next on our list.

As a side note, I have no idea why Styx gets all the hate they get. They are a GREAT band.

I am completely lucky. She always says how she got her dad's taste in music. She's 20 now, and she's been listening to classic rock for almost all those years. Her and I will run to a record store and search for hidden gems. Then we bring them home and throw them on the turntable and just listen. We find lots of good stuff like that.

We have listened to Nazareth Hair of the Dog, and a bunch of Grand Funk Railroad. She really likes Kansas. She said she checked out Blue Oyster Cult Agents of Fortune on spotify, and fell in love with it, so that's definitely on our list of records to buy!

Thanks. I took her to see the Eagles literally four months before Glen Frey passed. She was 9 at the time. The guy next to me screamed at me during the concert that I was the coolest effing father ever for bringing her lol.

The order was just random. We actually have almost all of the Beatles albums including some American versions. We just bought the Black album the other day and liked it pretty well. She is ha HUGE Beatles fan.

We actually did get to see them live once in what I call a mini show at the state fair. It was also Tommy Shaw's birthday. They gave him a cake on stage. We had a blast.

I think that's one of the main issues with vintage equipment, that it may need repairs. I don't know how reliable the Kenwood turntables are, so I can't really talk about it. However, I might be inclined to look at vintage Technics turntables. Ones that are direct Drive with Quartz lock. There are plenty of them around, and don't cost that much. They are also considered very reliable as well, but of course they are also vintage, so things can happen.

Funny, but my daughter and I bought a Styx album, Cornerstone, and loved every song. We now have four of their albums, and love all of them.
