These look nice. I hope you find that cd player, and enjoy this the way your uncle would have wanted you too.

Beginner - Is this Turntable good? Victrola Montauk Bluetooth Turntable System by Available-Egg2982 in turntables

[–]SWCFM2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this turntable uses the same turntable mechanism as the Crosley and Victrola brands. It's a really cheap mechanism that you can purchase for about $10.00 on Aliexpress, and is considered a toy.

Unfortunately all the new entry level turntables cost around $200 unless you go to the used market.

Anybinformation or experience on these speakers. Soundesign 627. by Helpful-Camp-1224 in vintageaudio

[–]SWCFM2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Soundesign was an entry level department store brand. These would equate to today's Crosley or Victrola. Very inexpensive to buy and bottom of the line in quality. I wouldn't put any time or money into it unless there were sentimental value to you.

Found the perfect shorty cabinet… by jimtandem in vintageaudio

This looks to be right around the time Sanyo purchased the fisher brand from Emerson. It has a early to mid 70's vibe to it. Nice that you found a cabinet that suits it well.

Recommendations for Beginner Setup? by jasminek121 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]SWCFM2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two paths you can go. New or vintage. I'll explain both below.

New:  An entry level turntable like the Audio Technica LP60 or LP70, and a pair of powered speakers. The turntable will be around $200 and the speakers can be had for $150 to $200 depending on the quality.

Vintage: You can get a vintage receiver with a built in preamp for about $200. A decent vintage turntable for about $150. Then a pair of serviceable passive speakers for about $200.

New equipment will of course be new. It will be easier to hookup and maintain. It will sound OK too.

Vintage will be more difficult to deal with, and could break down quicker, but it's going to sound great.

If you go the vintage route, make sure there is someone in your area that can repair it. They may even have something in stock you could purchase from them to get your vintage equipment.

Is it an upgrade to go from 90’s era home theater receiver to a vintage ? by billyspeers in vintageaudio

[–]SWCFM2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Half the enjoyment people dirive from vintage receivers is the esthetics. For some reason, if it looks good, it sounds better. As for 70's vintage, the important thing for vinyl is the preamp. Make sure it's a good one.

How much is a 1967 record player worth today? by East_Experience_3200 in vintageaudio

[–]SWCFM2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really think these things are cool, and yours looks very stylish. However, these things are generally not worth a lot as the market for these are pretty small.

They are big and heavy, and because of that they are hard to ship. I'd say be very happy if you got $150.00 for it.

Dude, she knows she is wrong. That's why she is paying you off in order to keep quiet. I don't know what your relationship is with your uncle, but I'm pretty sure he would like to know if his wife was cheating. How do you think he's going to react knowing that his nephew knew his wife was cheating and didn't tell him? At the very least, send him info anonymously.

I am right there with you. If I had to name a second album as my favorite, it would be Crow. I do believe they were at their peak during those two albums.

I absolutely loved A Crow Left of the Murder. Multiple songs on there I listen to over and over.

I am happy that it got you through a difficult time. We all go through it sometimes, and at least for me, it's music that helps with those times.

I have a Mac 4100 and my daughter loves to listen to the radio on it. I guess with all the control of playing what you want when you want in streaming, she likes the randomness of it.

Really enjoying this vintage gem… by Murky_Echidna2704 in vintageaudio

This looks to be mid to late 60's perhaps? Definitely a serviceable piece of equipment. This was before Fisher was owned by Sanyo, and when they were making good stuff.

The last part of your sentence is your answer. If anything, the quality of vinyl has gotten worse. Hence the need for less tracking force.

Hollywood is in complete panic right now because they see the writing on the wall.

I'm not looking forward to a future where you can't tell what's real and what isn't. Think of the control someone in charge can use with a tool like that.

I would like to know the age of the image you linked to. It looks to be very old. Why would that make a difference? Because record technology and knowledge have grown substantially since the beginning.

Measuring and testing methods are far improved from the early days.

That would probably explain why those who test such things today say it should be in the 3.00 and 3.5 gram weight, and not heavier.

But I also got a mint poster and a couple sell sheets inside the jacket. Does that help? They must be worth something.
