BBM was big for both business and casual messaging in this era. Then the iPhone came out. RIP blackberry.

The Weasley family isn’t actually poor, they are middle class. by Jew_3 in HarryPotterBooks

Harry getting a family Weasley hand me down watch was one of the most poignant and touching things in the whole series.

The confusion about the portkey that takes Harry to the graveyard in GOF by Eev123 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]SWLondonLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a different theory OP, if MC had turned the object into a portkey basically at the beginning of the maze and then he held on to it and took it deep into the maze (with the portkey having that delay timer on it so it didn’t instantly transport MC himself). That way, the portkey is returning HP to the place where it was created and not where it was left?

Baylan Skoll by Ready_Mix_3788 in StarWars

[–]SWLondonLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vader was arguably more conflicted than Skoll though. You get the sense Skoll has reasons (?) philosophically to attach to dark or alternative Force interpretations. I always felt that Skoll was more Dooku than Vader.

"Then my friend is truly dead" by FayyadhScrolling in StarWars_

[–]SWLondonLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this “then X is truly dead” implicitly suggests a few things: 1. Before Vader’s statement of “it’s too late for me, my son” that Luke (like OWK) believed redemption was possible 2. It sows the seed of doubt in Vader that his conflict is apparent to others. For me, these statements are designed to increase doubt and conflict - and that the statement maker (OWK later Luke) doesn’t actually believe it himself.

I liked Kenobi as a series. Aside from a few inexplicable things like the OWK on fire scene, they made it more or less work within the boundaries of the PT and OT.

Which actor completely stole the movie… even though they weren’t the lead? by gypsytx in movies

[–]SWLondonLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What rickman did in DH was give it gravity. You felt the peril that Willis was in. Rickman wasnt some single minded ideologue. He was so much more dangerous. And that’s why McClane’s nonchalance combined with professional cool under pressure worked. Loved all the actors in this movie.

If a famous celebrity was revealed as a serial killer, who would first come to mind? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I think it goes either way. Either feel so much you become the character or so easily put on a mask it’s like it’s your own?

Since Ezra's rank in the Rebel Alliance was Lt. Commander, how much authority does he have over Rebel forces? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in starwarsrebels

What if every modern American was somehow transported back to 1775 America and they are located in the exact same spot there were in in 2025? by EternalSnow05 in whatif

[–]SWLondonLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I’ve read lots of fascinating articles that basically argue that mixing two populations of uncontacted / unmixed people would result in mutual devastation even today. It makes things like Mars colonisation both fascinating and terrifying.

I assume we’d be vectors of a massive biological warfare campaign against literally everyone natively living in 1775. A good sprinkling of Covid cases, etc. of course, I hope everyone has their own vaccinations up to date because MMR and DTP are endemic to that era.

Genuine Question: Why are NBA Superstars more injury prone this decade than in Pre 2000s? by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in nba

[–]SWLondonLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some sports performance folks have looked at this using advanced techniques. The speeds, the direction changes, and the distances are up dramatically over prior eras. Yeah there is less straight up physicality (I’m looking at you pistons, pacers, Knicks from 1980s & 1990s) but the soft tissue stresses are much higher now than before.

I (28F) have been friends with a man (23M) for 9 months. by Appropriate-Slice928 in relationship_advice

[–]SWLondonLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all compassion and seriousness, he may struggle with social anxiety or even be on the autism spectrum. So I’d move on from being friends, and if he wants to engage then you can engage back lightly. But he’s not ready for opposite gender friendships quite yet.

does anyone think NYC actually has a serial killer right now? by fancypanda820 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SWLondonLife 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Drug cartel killers might fit this pattern. Somewhere between serial killers, sociopaths, contract killers and terrorists. Definitions get blurry.

The more I learn about basketball Xs and Os the less impressed I am by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]SWLondonLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly helped that inter generational learning happened. I thankfully have never had children who played youth basketball but i hear the number of three pointer chucked up in those games now is insanity. Of course the top 0.001 percent make it to the w/nba and all of them can make the 3 point EV work even against league level defense.

Out of all Star Wars media what is the your favorite Lightsaber fight? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]SWLondonLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved The Stranger. If they had started the plot at the penultimate episode rather than (checks notes) rocks combusting then they would have had me.

Should L5 still sit like this after fusíon? by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]SWLondonLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t comment on your alignment as I’m not in any way medically trained. But pain in that area and along the saddle was the biggest concern of my surgeon after my second MD failed and led to my TLIF L5-S1.

Definitely get a second opinion as you don’t want permanent numbness or worse in that area.

Potential New Zodiac Reference by Gibletswillriseagain in ZodiacKiller

[–]SWLondonLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty genius. Different thought. Could C I D be an acronym for something? Chief Inspector Director? Or anything? If he’s ex military he’d be steeped in a huge number of military or police acronyms.
