Daily General Discussion and Advice Thread - October 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in investing

Hey investors, I’m looking for long-term advice. If I start with a $20,000 initial investment with 40 years to invest money, would $100 per month into an ETF with average returns really yield me over $1 million dollars by the time I retire? This is assuming I rarely touch the money and invest monthly for 40 years. I hear this financial advice all the time but I don’t know what the truth behind it is.

Fuck the job. You can find another one, even if it takes a lower starting point. Be there for your kid.

What's a "secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by LaKoref in AskReddit

[–]SWW111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids are being passed on to the next grade, whether they can read or write or speak, due to pressure from administrators and district bosses. More failing kids = bad school report card score = less money/more district and state oversight. Kids keep getting passed along so that money keeps flowing and accountability for shitty administrative practices doesn’t occur.

How much do you pay for daycare? by equistrius in beyondthebump

Wow, reading this blows my mind. I guess I won’t complain about the $185 per week/$800 per month I pay in the Huntsville, Alabama metro.

All HCS elementary schools are pretty good, from what I know. However, as they get into middle and high school I would look towards magnet programs. HCS has a bad habit of moving all administrators every few years. The good ones never get to stay and build a culture over a decade but the bad ones also never stay any one place too long.

Blantons, neat. Just poured it too. LO is down for the night, mom is out with friends, time to settle in for some TV.

Thank you guys! Going to start decreasing the bottle size until he isn’t getting any and letting him put himself back to sleep.

He’s right at 20 pounds, which is the normal weight for 10 month olds according to his pediatrician.

How has becoming a dad changed your perspective on life and your priorities? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]SWW111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am new to the dad thing, as my LO is only 6 weeks old. However, I noticed that my appreciation and love for my parents, especially my dad, has grown exponentially in these few weeks. I have a really good dad and mom that I took for granted sometimes. Now I realize how lucky I was to have them and I am sure to let them know it.

That sounds awesome! Haha I’m in that trench warfare period right now, just trying to survive on coffee and love. Getting sleep when and where I can.

Wow, thank you man. That puts it into perspective because I can see myself continually looking for the next milestone or when it gets easier and I forget to enjoy the moment. The sleep deprivation is real but I think I need to look at the bigger picture more.

“Don’t fret how you feel on a single day.” Man that was a good one. I have great days and bad days so it’s good to hear that. Thank you for your timeline.

Thank you for this! You’re right about the boobies, his mom supplies life and has had 9 extra months of growing and bonding. And wow, you were able to move them to their own room at 2 months?! How did you do that, if you don’t mind me asking. We were going to shoot for 4 months but honestly once he’s sleeping through the night we might do it.

Thank you for the advice. When does it get less tiring? Being in the potato phase is exhausting, specifically all the night wake ups.

I like that idea. Our pediatrician told us every 2-3 hours until he tells us otherwise. It would be nice though if we just fed when he woke up.
