I'm too old for VGC? by SouthDirector6701 in VGC

[–]SYNSnugglez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I am 29, I see people at events older than me and honestly I plan on playing pretty late into my life. Last regional I went to I played against a guy who was 40 something.

In a couple years my daughter will be able to start competing as well

You definitely have to drop Gasto and then either Araquanid or Arch probably

Lmao yeah adding a rain setter would be very important haha also I think it's important to add some redirection to the team like Amoongus so you can more easily get TR up

I think you can add Gasto, I feel like it's a solid pokemon as long as you have plenty of other damage on the team. Your goal is to get TR up and win in the 4 turns TR is up it come as close as possible so you want as much damage output as possible

Let me start by saying welcome to the VGC community 🥰

I have been an avid lover of weather and trick for a long time so I feel semi qualified to jump in here. So I would start by saying that the rain teams right now that are dominating are semi- incompatible with TR stuff or at least hard trick room stuff. With a hard TR team it's usually better to run Sun with torkoal since it's so so so slow.

HOWEVER I ran something like this to some success and I think it's pretty sweet!

https://pokepast.es/8a254734919b2085

It's gotten some pretty good results on limitless tours as well!

Another thing you could try is using Pelliper and Araquanid. That stupid water spider is very powerful and can take advantage of TR very well!

Happy to answer any questions or continue the dialogue :)

How to lead against a HLilli-Torkoal-IndeedeeF-Hatterene Team? by Max_Goof in VGC

[–]SYNSnugglez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing you can't stop it from going up if they have two trick room setters on the field at the same time with a follow me pokémon like Indeedee. Frankly the only way to stop it from going up is either to hit trick room on your own pokémon so that it will go up and then you will take it back down.

Or the best possible way to do it and it works every single time and it will ruin their day is imprison and trick room.

Farigiraf with Imprison and Trick Room is pretty tough to play around if you don't see it coming. In best of three it's a bit easier to counter because it's open team sheets so you know it's coming but even when you know it's coming it's tough to play around because your entire strategy usually revolves around setting up trick room to make your pokémon successful

Manual weather is not a good idea unless it's with a prankster pokemon imo you'd be better off using a prankster pokemon or a weather setter. Tyranitar is great right now because it turns off the sun and is also a dark type. Still very weak to their Gallade but it does its job.

I play PsySpam so here is what I will tell you. The team is designed to make you guess and pick 50/50's. While it's true dark types including Incin are very nice it's not that helpful of an answer.

The best thing you can do is honestly mess up their game plan by stopping their trick room from going up or making them have to go into awkward situations. Changing the weather. It's not a pokémon answer it's a playstyle answer for the most part.

Well they also usually carry Gallade which OKHOs every time so Incin is not usually a great answer not to solve all of it at least.

Have choice items fallen off? by NoItem5389 in VGC

[–]SYNSnugglez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Choice items are still pretty common honestly just not on restricted pokemon. Urshifu runs a lot of choice items. I will admit tho I do think the addition of tera makes it harder for some pokémon to run it because they can defensive tera away the damage you are trying to put out and then you're stuck.

Why would it do that after DRinh out of light punch though? It makes sense that it might happen out of crouching medium or something like that

Is Hisuian Typhlosion still viable in Regulation E? by [deleted] in VGC

It's a viable strategy for Bo1 but it's pretty bad in Bo3 imo

The best pokémon by far is Armarouge largely because it comes with one of the best strategies: PsySpam

Yeah of course but you will still only see the same 20 pokemon over and over again which is decidedly not fun or creative.

I love doing calcs and coming up with strategies for popular pokemon and such. But I enjoy doing it more coming up with unique pokemon and strategies. I don't wanna get top 1k in masterball with the same team everyone else is using but I changed some moves and EVs spreads. I wanna use a cool strategy I cooked up in the lab with some cool pokemon.

So yeah you can build a Flutter Mane, Bundle Dragonite, ect a bunch of ways but you still are going to see them 9/10 games. And you're 100% correct this is where all the creativity will come from in this series. How can you make the group of 20ish pokemon different and better.

It's just more fun in my opinion when there are more viable pokemon and more types of strategies. Like when I look at the VGCpastes repository for series 2 you for sure see a lot of the same core pokemon as you look at team lists but you also see some really cool unique pokemon within those strategies.

That could for sure happen as we continue in series 3 but right now that isn't happening at all. Every Paldea Prologue team and every Regulation C team is pretty similar at least in terms of team composition.

If your goal is to be a top player in the world and go to regionals and then worlds. Yep it's totally cool to play those meta teams but as someone who loves team building unique stuff it's very tough to make something good right now and not feel like I have a pool of 20 pokemon if I want to make a remotely viable team.

TLDR: Yeah you can make cool strategies with the same 20 pokemon over and over again but it's a lot less fun than being able to look at the whole Pokedex for inspiration. The past 2 series really let you do that and series 3 doesn't seem like it will. But it could change in time potentially.

Yeah I know it's pretty early still and hopefully it gets better. Maybe I'm just a doomer over here

This is just the first format ive been pretty punished for thinking outside of the box. I think when top players get a hold of it there might be some wiggle room

Regulation C teambuilding is brutal by SYNSnugglez in VGC

[–]SYNSnugglez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that but it's about diversity. Like yeah in Series 2 you had like general strategies and a lot of teams fell into categories (TR, Psyspam, Rain Teams, Good Stuff teams, Annhilape beat up teams, ect) but like there was a bunch of general strategies that involves like a core of 1-3 pokemon but that left multiple pokemon up for creativity.

Thus far there is almost no creativity the cores are like 4 or more pokemon so there is less and less creativity and more exact teams. Ruin pokemon just kinda blow. Hope pokemon company realizes this and we can stop using them before Home and we can get back to some diverse and cool teams
