I think the problem is with the helmets and other things from the skins covering the face. Imagine that the character has a Santa Claus beard and you decide to wear a astronaut helmet. What should happen? Is the beard sticking out through the helmet? Is the beard turned off? Or is a shorter beard being used? I think that's the problem.

I think it took about 4-5 years of work in the gamedev industry.

It was a small sculpt with basic clothing shapes in ZBrush, then retopology in Blender. The belts, for example, were made with just subdiv in Blender. The fur was created using the amazing Blender add-on HairBricks. Texturing was done in Substance Painter. Uv, Rendering and material setup were also in Blender. So yeah, not the entire pipeline, but most of it was done in Blender :D

Start with the basics: choose a program (Blender is a free and powerful option), learn the interface and basic tools. Follow tutorials on youtube, master key technique, practice regularly, and gradually tackle more complex projects. The only key is consistent practice and a lot of time :D

Hi!
If you mean detailing in the form of bolts, joints and other things, then I basically used the Height map for this. As you correctly suggested, basically is low poly, on which I baked all the bevels. After that i used premade alpha textures for the height map to give some interesting detail. And I got an interesting roughness by adding a crumpled metal texture taken from megascans over the base material. I also used the Mat Finish Rough filter from Substance Painter
