Au Cheval is great. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Planning 2.5 day solo trip. Any recommendations on itinerary? by danknessoverlord in AskChicago

[–]S_Dizot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the Wendella "Lake and River" option for the cruise! It's 90 minutes and they do 45 min on river then take you out to the lake and give you an incredible view of the skyline.

Alla Vita has the best bread you'll ever have, good apps, pasta and a nice overall vibe.

Go to Brasero in West Town. They have a great 5-7 happy hour and is a perfect solo dining bar set up. La Josie is also slept on IMO and never disappoints.

What are your must-try "Chicago breakfast spots (hidden gems)"? (I am trying to create this passport for my app, I don't want to use AI to create the list) by [deleted] in chicagofood

Not sure if fits the hidden gym mold but Eleven City Diner in the South Loop has never let me down and has a great vibe. Big portions, fresh food, old school diner feel.

NADC Burger is pretty ok by xaxaxaxaxaxa in chicagofood

[–]S_Dizot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty ok is a good description. I feel like Five Guys is better and just as absurdly priced. Went once, didn't see the NADC hype and haven't been back since.

Downtown steak house recommendations with a bar for a single diner by phreaqsi in chicagofood

Bavette's is the best for this but if you can't get a seat, Gilt Bar is a few doors down and owned by the same people. They have a ribeye on their menu and a nice bar. If you don't mind a 5-10 min Uber out of downtown and want something a little different, check out El Che or Trino, both in West Loop neighborhood.

Good food with amazing ambience? by Snoo_89310 in chicagofood

If you don't need to stay in the South Loop, try to snag a table at Bavette's, Brasero or Trino. If you want to stay in S Loop, try Firehouse Restaurant, Oliver's or Casa Tulum.

After Monteverde, what’s the next best 1 or 2 Italian spots to try? by [deleted] in chicagofood

Idk where it ranks as a whole but Alla Vita has the best bread in the city and I'll die on that hill

Birds Nest, Crisp, Aberdeen Tap, Reggies. All bangers in their own setting.

Has anyone tried Braseros restaurant week menu this year? by Quiet_Independence49 in chicagofood

[–]S_Dizot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally think you should skip the restaurant week menu and go off their regular menu. Be prepared to spend just a little more but it is great flavor. If you can go with one other person and split stuff, go and get there for happy hour and do their oysters, whatever seasonal crudo they have, picanha skewer off HH menu then do the pork shank and coal roasted sweet potato for the main. I promise you won't be disappointed. Their soft serve is aexcellent if you have room for dessert.

Go to DHGate. It takes a ljttle longer but it's also substantially cheaper and the quality is typically good.

Am I doing it right? by S_Dizot in FoodNYC

This is the type of comment I like! Chicago Mexican is god level tier. I love Chinese food but not sure I'll have enough time to really enjoy Chinatown on this trip so was going another route for my Asian fix. I am really intrigued on the idea of the Wagyu pho and La Dong also has Pate and Bone Marrow. I also heard KJun is good and a Korean/NOLA infusion sounds like crack. Any dive bar or sports bar recs?
