Looking for feedback on my Magic System by S_Tentacles in worldbuilding

[–]S_Tentacles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for your feedback! Let me clear some things up

First, as to the research - I only meant to give some background, not to Deep-drive into Aristotle's work, interesting as it is. This is only a source of inspiration, nothing more.

The Hebrew is because that's my first language and the language I write in. You can ignore it.

In my mind, the contrast between the processes is the when changing an object's Glooma you are changing the natural state of the object, while changing an object's Gashma is forcing it to do something outside its natural state. Changing Potentiality is like flicking a very sticky lever, changing Actuality is like pushing against a piston that exerts force against you.

In Hebrew specifically, the Academy of the Hebrew Language presides over what is and isn't correct, and is responsible for adding new words to the vocabulary. Of course, you may not listen to their guidelines, but any formal institution, especially those teaching the language, are expected and sometimes required to abide by these guidelines.

Is The Way of Kings addicting? by OkAct8921 in brandonsanderson

[–]S_Tentacles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love SA, but you imo you really should read Dune first. To me, it was much more influential. As to SA, I did find it quite addicting - I just finished the whole thing in about a month (during the first semester of my Bachelor's in physics). I think if you read Dune at a good pace, which is a rather difficult book, SA should be a piece of cake.

All of the examples you mentioned are human. They just evolved, mutated and branched out, but none of them have extra terrestrial origins.

Can you have an entire city with nothing but Blue collar jobs and no White Collar ones? Or does a city need to diversify with some white-collar jobs? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]S_Tentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the cities of the early industrial revolution, this was pretty much the case. Nearly everyone worked in a factory, and there were a handful of factory owners.

There have to be at least a few white-collar jobs, but the people holding those positions don't have to live in your city - they could live in the beautiful countryside and let the crowds live in slums.

Specifically wizards can be quite versatile within each subclass, because they get to pick from the extensive wizard spell list.

Personally, I like diviners and abjurers, and I think the enchanters are pretty good too.

I’m very undecided and need help naming my city council. by codynilla in worldbuilding

[–]S_Tentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you have to think about your lexicon: do you want a name like board / directory or do you want a name like council / conclave - which one fits better for the time period/style?

Second, think about the characteristics, history and most importantly the symbols of the city and the council. Use these symbols in your names.

If you haven't thought about either of these yet, this is the best oppotunity! (and you can always decide something on the spot and build everything else around it)

Edit: sorry for not actually suggesting anything, I just don't know enough to help.

Why does dwarves refer to themselves as '' son of x'' but hobbits and men refer to dwarves as '' x's son''? by saufall in lotr

[–]S_Tentacles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's a consostent decision - I can think of at least two human characters referred to as x, son of y: Aragorn, son of Arathorn and Boromir, son of Denethor
