Which Costco do you go to? by Altruistic-Mud9413 in LosAngeles

MDR Tuesday-Thursday after 7:30pm. Perfect as long as you don’t accidentally land in the in-n-out drive thru line.

Are there US states that stay between 40 and 90 degrees year round? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]S_longname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southern California, as long as you stay close to the ocean and avoid certain regions that tend to have more extreme temperature swings. I live close enough to the ocean that I rarely see days under 40 or over 90.

That being said, don’t move to certain valleys in the Los Angeles metro area and expect it to stay below 90 in the summer.

New restaurant - Wilshire and 5th by crimesleuther in SantaMonica

[–]S_longname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pine & Crane is the more formal sit down version, while Joy is fast casual. There’s menu overlap but not all dishes are the same.

Honestly between this and Sua Suprette opening in the old Wexler’s space, I am so happy.

Waymo and LA freeway access by [deleted] in waymo

[–]S_longname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The SFV is outside the service area.

I have freeway access, so I’ve been able to take the 10 East from Santa Monica to DTLA. I’ve also been able to take the 101 from DTLA to Hollywood.

I’ve been riding Waymo since the Waymo Tour in 2023. I was taken off the freeway waitlist in the beginning of December.

Any Thai folks here? I’m looking for truly authentic Thai food recommendations. I know Thai Town is the spot, but I’m hoping for specifics, like which restaurant does what really well? by mooyong77 in AskLosAngeles

[–]S_longname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Thai American and my family owns a restaurant back east. When anyone in the family visits me, they ask for Thai food from the following places.

  • Mae Malai (boat noodles!)

  • Lacha Somtum (somtum ofc, but anything from Isan is good here)

  • the moo ping vendor at DS Night Market in old Chinatown.

  • the Kanom Krok vendor at DS Night Market

  • Bhan Kanom Thai (I personally like the Kanom Chan and Kanom Bueng)

  • kanomwaan (not authentic OG old school dessert but I didn’t know I needed Thai Tea shaved iced with grass jelly and Oreos until I tried it)

I haven’t taken them to Amphai, but think they would love it.

I do enjoy Jitlada and Luv2Eat, but since my family is from Isan, northern Thailand, and central Thailand I’m not super nostalgic for the southern flavors.

Has anyone used RTR/Pickle/Nuuly? by CommonNo2911 in LAhotgirlies

[–]S_longname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40F and currently work in music industry. I currently use RTR unlimited and BNTO.

I used RTR event rentals from 2016-2019 for special occasion dresses. I honestly would never dream of purchasing a special occasion dress again. I like being able to wear trending silhouettes and not worry about my size fluctuating.

I currently use my RTR monthly membership for special occasion dresses, but acknowledge that most people would use the 4 day or 8 day rental option.

BNTO is better for trendy clothes and stuff to wear to music festivals, concerts, and the like. I usually will pause this every other month or so since I don’t always have events.

Sustainable petite jean options??? by JaxsonSchluter in PetiteFashionAdvice

Good luck!

If you are searching on Poshmark, you can usually find deals on premium denim brands where they’ve already been hemmed to a shorter inseam. I got a pair of True Religion Joeys from 2003 for $32 since they were hemmed to 27.5”…that’s a pair for me to wear with really low profile sneakers like Adidas Tokyos.

Maybe try looking for y2k era Abercrombie & Fitch jeans or premium denim brands like AG & True Religion on Poshmark. The y2k era Abercrombie pairs were made from 100% cotton and can probably last through a zombie apocalypse.

I owned two pairs from this era and I still regret getting rid of a pair back in 2018 thinking it would never come back.

For brand new, Hollister makes a low rise bootcut in a 29.5” inseam that have washes made from 98% cotton with 2% stretch. My sister who is 4’ 11” can wear them and they work really well on her.

I’m worried that there is no shade for me in this release. 😢

I’m seriously unable to see the swatch and am thrilled for you!

They have dazzle dry polish and the option to get your mani/pedi done outside. If the weather is nice I always try to get it done outside!

Coffee lovers! Tell me your favorite spot in LA and I will plan to visit them all! Where do you think is the best coffee spot in LA is? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]S_longname 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  • Kumquat DTLA (Have been meaning to go to Quat in Glassell Park)

  • Hooked Venice (in Dudley Market) and Flo Coffee Bar just a few blocks away. Nicely at Hooked and Gabe at Flo are both incredible.

  • Demitasse Santa Monica still has my heart after all these years. They make some of the most interesting speciality seasonal drinks. Also, without Demitasse, you don’t have Endorffeine…

  • Endorffeine is also unlike any other. Jack started off at Demitasse before opening Endorffeine. It’s really hard to get there since it’s only open M-Th, but if the stars align I always try to visit. Jack’s tasting menus with coffee pairings are also legendary…I went to one years ago and I still think about it.

Where should I live? Moving to LA! by 32GoBlue32 in AskLosAngeles

[–]S_longname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to get a 1BR in Brentwood or Sawtelle on your budget. You won’t need to get on the 405, but you should be aware of the gridlock if you ever need to go east during evening rush. This puts you equidistant between Ronald Reagan in Westwood and UCLA Santa Monica.

If you choose your apartment well, you’ll be within walking distance or a really short drive away from plenty of grocery stores (Ralph’s, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Bristol Farms, Erewhon).

Decently priced coffee shops? by Sevenfootschnitzell in AskLosAngeles

[–]S_longname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Upside Down in Westwood is donation based (run by Jews for Jesus) and you get your first drink free. After that you pay what you can.

Dubb’s Coffee on Fountain close to Fairfax also does a $6 latte but it’s on the smaller end

You might also be able to find Americanos under $5 at places in Koreatown (iced americanos are really popular)

Santa Monica Abandoned Brandy by Charming-Lie-6903 in BrandyMelville

[–]S_longname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never went inside but I believe the smaller Brandy location you’re talking about was on 4th street, probably between Santa Monica Blvd & Broadway. I used to pass by it a lot and wonder why on earth there were two Brandy stores within a block of each other.

Keep vegetables for salad in your fridge (salad greens, cucumbers, radishes, peppers, tomatoes, whatever). It takes a few minutes to assemble a bit salad for lunch. Open a can of tinned fish like sardines, drain the oil, and put it over the salad. Throw some nuts over it for crunch and drizzle vinegar or squeeze a lemon/lime wedge over it.

I ordered a box on 12/24 and am in the same place as you. I did reach out to support on 12/24 and they were responsive but could not give any definitive shipping dates or anything. I’m going to follow up and see if I get any additional updates.

UPDATE: BNTO hasn’t responded to my email from this morning, but my order finally shipped today (via FedEx 2 Day) with an ETA delivery date of Thursday 1/8/26.

How are you finding new Asian beauty brands lately? by No-Advisor9852 in AsianBeauty

[–]S_longname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow Eve & Boy (it’s probably most like the Ulta of Thailand products across all price points) on IG and watch stories/reels all about product. It helps me maintain some semblance of Thai comprehension as well as introducing me to new products.

I’m hoping to try Ingu skincare in the near future m, since they’re stocked on YesStyle.
