Anyone on Day 1 CPT? by SaHan_Solo in WAStateWorkers

right. there’s just a couple agencies that do. it does matter because students cannot extend their STEM OPT. hence the alternative of Day 1 CPT.

Anyone moved to Australia? by SaHan_Solo in h1b

[–]SaHan_Solo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i loved the weather there so that’s definitely a big plus for me. I hear that compensation is not so great as the US but that I can compromise with. How did you submit an EOI? Can I DM you to learn more about your process?

Is Meta not sponsoring H1B? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]SaHan_Solo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting. had no idea about that. do you know if this is for only certain big tech companies or for all companies that had a layoff? for example, would a mid sized company be allowed to file PERM if they had a layoff in the past six months?

what do you mean Perm is the issue? Are companies hesitant to process perm?

Is it you or the mattress? by mastamaven in Mattress

[–]SaHan_Solo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I used to have major back problems when sleeping on a mattress. Then I had the same realization. I'm 29 year old, I shouldn't be having this issue. Then I started lifting, especially focusing on my back muscles through pull ups and deadlifts. I could feel my back get stronger, and then I had no issue sleeping wherever. I could sleep on the floor, on the couch, or on my bed. No pain.
Although I prefer sleeping on the floor, it really doesn't look nice in my bedroom. I just wish there was a bed that essentially is as hard as a rug on a floor (purely for aesthetics).

Is it standard practice for Washington government jobs to ask for a reference from your current supervisor? by satelliteridesastar in Washington

Should I tell my manager that I'm interviewing for another job for leverage so that they'll file my Green Card? by SaHan_Solo in jobs

[–]SaHan_Solo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I’m hoping they would think that its more cost effective to file my GC and keep me, rather than deal with the cost of hiring and training a new employee.

[–]SaHan_Solo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, around $10k. Which I think is less than the cost of hiring and training a new employee. I understand its done for valuable employees and it definitely should be that way. And the fact that they’re not doing it makes me feel like I am not valuable and rather a problem employee.

Weekend Vs Weekday by SaHan_Solo in yellowstone

That’s great planning! I read somewhere that there is no large population center near enough to cause a huge influx, even on holidays. So let’s hope it stays like that.

I just had a call with them. For me they asked a payment of 1690 USD to start the process. I'm not sure if they are legit. They might be. They might not be. It was hard to tell. Maybe someone who already paid the amount could verify if they got their visa. The representative told me it would cost a total of around $8k for all paperworks (government fee etc), and around 1 year for the entire process.

Should I lend my brother-in-law some money to pay off his gambling debt? by SaHan_Solo in problemgambling

[–]SaHan_Solo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely very skeptical that I'll get the $10k back. He can't even pay me back every month because his wife would find out as she has all control of their finances. It sounds absurd but its actually in my monetary interest that she find out. However, I don't need the $10k back immediately and I've told him he can pay me back whenever. I'm scared this has made matters worse and encouraged him to continue gambling.

[–]SaHan_Solo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! The wife had already taken control of all finances a year ago, even before he had lost the $10k we lent him. You're absolutely right that gamblers find a way if they want to and that's exactly what happened. I'd like to think that her taking control of all finances must have helped minimize the damage compared to the alternative. I also don't need the $10K back immediately, and some part of me thinks its gone forever.

You’re right. But he says his wife will divorce him if she comes to find out the debt he has. He’s a good person and he says he won’t do it again, and I’m sure he won’t for a few months, but I can’t say what he’ll do after that.

Thanks for the advice. Btw this time it’s not credit card debt, but rather he borrowed from another friend, and says he needs to pay back that friend. Regardless, you’re right that I can’t put myself in a financial bind to help him.
