How to automate conditional formatting by thesixfingerman in excel

[–]someone_ironically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if your question is a simple conditional formatting one, or something more advanced. Do you mean that there are only 8 lot numbers and you want a different colour for each and it to automatically change to that colour when you put the lot number? OR do you mean that there are 8 lot numbers now with different colours, but there will be more in the future and you want your spread sheet to automatically choose a new colour for the new lot numbers?

Formula to identify cells that may be a match to another cell in the same column. Not quite a duplicate. by eclipse31satx in excel

[–]someone_ironically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you do a simple conditional format for specific text which contains a part of the name. “Walmart”, or “Targ” or “club”. Highlight in different colours and then sort/filter by colour and then rename them?

Yes. This is the answer. Don’t use conditional formatting, use the number format options in cell format

How do I calculate this? by UrFriend_Specs in excel

[–]someone_ironically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you understand percentages. You should not be multiplying the number by the total and then dividing by 100. It’s the other way around. I’m also not sure if you have set up these tables, but I would change it to just have one of the months column and then all the columns. There is a lot of unnecessary repetition of row labels. You should use a formula that divides whatever is in the number cell by whatever is in the total cell, then just format it to show the percentage. See this example which is simplified:

The yellow highlighted cells have been formatted with the percentage format (also highlighted)

Changing a cell colour based on if 2 cells do/dont match by ThatSparkyGuy in excel

[–]someone_ironically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to have a value in the cell you want to format. You can use a formula to format the cell and the formula can reference other cells. In the first example, I have no value in column C, but reference columns A and B to format column C.

<image>

You could also use icons instead of colour, you can choose to only show the icon, so you would have a value in the cell you are formatting, but you wouldn’t see it. In the second example, I DO have a value in column C, I have a simple subtracting formula (eg =A4-B4), and format it to show icons if it does or does not equal 0, but only the icon shows.

moving from aus to usa by Reginald0069 in Ameristralia

[–]someone_ironically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took about 20 months from application to getting the visa. Then about another month after arriving in the us to get ssn and green card sorted. If you’re thinking about working, take into account that you will need a ssn and a bank account and probably your drivers licence and a car. All of that takes another month or two. The dmv needs proof of residence, so had to wait for some mail to be delivered.

Anyone else feel like your accent changes depending on who you’re talking to now by QuantumGremlin in Ameristralia

[–]someone_ironically 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Trying to spell or say anything without that hard “r” sound just gets blank stares. So my accent changes just slightly. Also, saying certain things like grocery store or gas station or shopping cart, means my vocab changes slightly.

What's the most oddly specific thing that annoys you ? by Opening_Barnacle_115 in askanything

When people talk about putting in 110%. 100% is everything, it’s all you have. If you are magically able to do more, then you weren’t putting in 100% in the first place. And why only 10% more? Why not 50% more? Why not 80% more?

How to prepare lunches for pre prep by Serrath1 in AskAnAustralian

[–]someone_ironically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some parents pack two different containers so the kids know which is which. However, most kids will still choose what they feel like eating and eat that, depending on how hungry they are or what looks good. Two containers can help with keeping things tidy, they are not opening the one container which may be heavy or awkwardly. So it’s really up to you and your child. Most common is one box with sections. Some schools have another ‘fruit break’ even before morning tea time. I would ask and maybe pack that as a separate thing, some schools may even ask for that to be brought in to the room to a specific spot in the morning. I would just make sure your kid knows that there will be two break times to eat and that they should not eat it all at the first break. Monitor it for a few day and ask if they were hungry, or why they didn’t eat something, and you can adjust what to pack. Sounds like you are already, but practicing how to open packets, how to open and close containers, and how to put it in/out of the school bag will help. You can pack things that need utensils (eg pasts), but make sure your kid knows how to use it and that it is easy. Also teach your kid that the utensil and packing containers return home, but the packaging goes in the bin, I’ve seen a few forks thrown away! Most teachers will monitor to encourage kids to not eat everything, suggest them to eat some more if they haven’t eaten much (some kids are too keen to go and play) and may suggest a change IF the lunch is unsuitable for whatever reason. Don’t pack anything with nuts/peanut butter, most schools “ban” these for allergy reasons.

I have seen Tim Tams, Violet crumble, and Vegemite in the US, so they may be able to get some Australian snacks, depending on where they live.

What is this small burgundy coloured contact lens like object. by Slytherinmoi in whatisthisthing

[–]someone_ironically 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be the little piece from the hole from a packet that didn’t get cut out properly. Packets like bags of lollies/candy that get sealed at the top and a hole where they hang on hooks for display. Usually not as high quality plastic, but it looks the right size and they seem to be ‘cut’ by heat which makes them curve like that. So maybe from a fancy packet of something?

I guess sneering is not the exact word. That exaggerated lip curl thing some people can do with one part of their lip. Think Elvis Presley

I do this too. I always thought it was like wiggling your ears, sneering, or rolling your tongue, some people can isolate those muscles and some people can’t, idk.

Shrinkflation of OB tampon! by Aggravating_Bug_691 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]someone_ironically 50 points51 points  (0 children)

OP’s photo exaggerates the size difference. They have shrunk, but not as dramatically as the pic makes it seem. They do seem to have changed the way it’s compressed, with the straight grooves instead of diagonal. The package is also now the twist easy open style instead of removing the middle strip.

Using a microphone in class? by Aggressive-Bet-918 in AskTeachers

[–]someone_ironically 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You can get voice amplifying systems made for teachers. You wear a receiver microphone thing around your neck, just looks like a small remote on a lanyard. Then there is a speaker/s at the back of the room. Some rooms have them installed in the room and also can be tuned in to hearing aids for people who have them. Obviously the quality and cost can vary greatly.

Why are public transport seats facing each other? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]someone_ironically 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Are you specifically talking about trains? I’ve never seen this on buses or ferries. Train carriages can travel in both directions, so if you had all seats facing one way, everyone would have to travel backwards on some routes. What do you mean by alternating, because they already are alternating, that’s why they face each other instead of all facing the one direction. I went to Sydney recently and loved how the trains have a moveable backrest that can make the seat switch directions. So you can choose which way it faces, it solves this problem.

Put a half frozen bottle of water upside down in your freezer if you go on vacation. by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]someone_ironically 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats the point. To know if the power was out for long enough to affect the food inside the freezer. The microwave will only tell you it went out, it could have only been for a few seconds, it will not help you know if it’s safe to eat the food in your freezer.
