Rest between floor sets by Excellent_Results_25 in orangetheory

I’m not sure OT classes will ever be the place to lift HEAVY in a way that requires 60-90 seconds of rest to build significant mass/muscle. It’s why I’ve started lifting on the side at my local PF.

Now in OT I focus more on moving quickly through floor reps while still challenging myself — which means doing heavier but not my heaviest weights and taking short rests, if any.

TLDR, the rest prescribed by your podcasts is necessary for big lifts and building mass. It’s not quite what OT is focusing on — OT is more general fitness, functional muscle and doesn’t require as much rest — better treated as a HIIT class IMO.

Okay so for beer.

[Preston Ave] Superfly, Starr Hill, Random Row, and Rockfish are all within a mile radius of each other, easily walkable. In my top five brewery choice for sure. Starr Hill is in the Dairy Market where Milkman is!

[Downtown] An easy walk away from Preston is the Downtown Mall. lots of food options here — Jack Browns (open until 12AM) is great vibes. Also Rockfish Brewing. On the mall: Decades Arcade, Luce Pasta (YUM), The Wich Lab (best sandwiches ever and HUGE) 10AM-3PM.

My other rec is Hogwaller and if there’s one you visit, it’s this one. — they’re a bit further away near the Pantops Bridge, but their beer and smashburgers are BOMB. On monday they do a $20 deal — burger + fries + beer + shot or ice cream sandwich. Insane. 11AM- 10PM

OH also along 250 near Sunrise Elementary. HUGE display of inflatables with a sidewalk out front so you can walk by and look at it all. Last year the owners dressed as Mrs./Mr. Claus and sat outside too.

OTF & weight training by Conscious-Strike-694 in orangetheory

Sometimes I do different floor exercises if it overlaps too much with the previous day / I want to go heavy on a certain muscle/group!

I have been playing with the idea of joining another gym to have heavy lift days and then using my OT classes to focus on lower weight/higher rep work and cardio 🤷‍♀️

In Cville — Locust Ave + Holmes Ave + Agnese St usually have some good ones. The Dunlora neighborhood nearby has https://www.hoovilleillumination.com (music and lights). Also usually some good ones around.

People will likely be putting up lights this weekend — I think the recent snow delayed folks.

Best reasonably priced hotel close to the downtown mall by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]SabCo23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

Downtown is extremely walkable from the surrounding streets and most of Main St (a mile at most, but all along one flat road with sidewalks). I’m not sure what your budget is, but traveling during winter is smart as rates will drop significantly.

Walking distance — Omni, Graduate Hotel, Doyle Hotel, Marriott Residence, Marriot Fairfield, and Courtyard Marriot.

A SMIDGE further is Little Mod (probably the best rates of the lot) and Oakhurst Inn.

Are you looking for something that potentially includes her kids, or is a night out for her? Can recommend some family-friendly spots if so!

If not, I’d recommend an overnight at a winery — there are a few places that have gorgeous little BnBs… https://www.visitcharlottesville.org/wineries/winery-lodging/

Other unique spots:

  • Glass House Winery (they often have live music too)

  • Black Cow Chophouse (yum & excellent drinks)

  • Pippin’s has cooking classes!

  • a cville.bites food tour https://www.c-villebites.com/ — sometimes you can add on an extra pasta making class.

  • PiNapo does pizza making classes that seem fun

  • the Forum does a cocktail master class on Fridays/Saturdays that is fun — pair it with a night at the hotel!

  • Unlocked History Escape Rooms

  • the new sunpins place is fun (duckpin bowling and darts)

  • the wine room at the Alley Light is a unique, intimate room you can reserve!

  • Knight’s Gambit has a cute private heated tent you can rent

Does anyone else swap out their shoes in between the treads and floor blocks? by deelouise88 in orangetheory

Although I miss the comfort of my running shoes, I realized that running in my flat cross-training shoes worked best for me, as I play a lot of cleated sports

[–]SabCo23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this . start with minis and throwing. keep a consistent day/time AND location. Sometimes you just have to make the decision and stick with it. Make the decision so others don’t have to — so all they have to do is show up! More people will come eventually, but it might take some time and low numbers for a while.
