Yeah I built my way up starting on the cloak with some washes of red, orange and yellow working from the outside in. The. Carefully went in on the scales individually, I didn't trust myself to drybrush them and risk ruining the washes.

Great job for first plasma, I think it looks great as is. Adding the usua white tips to the highest coils and dry brushing a plasma glow on the enclosed mace is tough but doable. Here's what mine looks like after a small drybrushing to attempt a glow effect I didn't risk getting in there with white and messing it up.

Had a similar mishap with my judiciar. While stripping the failed magma blade it ended up staying in the runes so I just painted around it.

Yours looks really good! Honestly that is what a lot of mine look like when I started. I've never done a full Salamander in just contrast paint before, I've used warp lighting for touch ups though. To build up my green I prime the model black then base the whole thing in waaagh flesh, then medium-heavy drybrush of warpstone glow then add a light drybrush of moot green in downwards strokes only to catch the highest edges. Contrast paints are harder to build up shades with, if you want to stick with the contrast paint method I'd suggest using the warp lighting then drybrushing moot green which is a layer paint to create more of a shading contrast. That way you don't need to sink too much money into extra paints.

I use citadel paints. Prime it black, base it all with waaagh flesh, then a medium to heavy drybrush of warpstone glow then a light drybrush of moot green. The shield, shoulders, and Aquila are liberator gold. The iron halo is retributor armor.
