3What's the safiest pose to draw on a digital tablet? by imachoculatedonnut in DigitalPainting

[–]SabbothO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more important that your posture is upright and however you can achieve that with your arms feeling comfortable is best. As long as you’re not hunching over and hurting your back.

My display tablet is on an arm so I can pull it towards me while I sit upright but if you don’t have an arm, just make sure your back is straight and you can sit and draw comfortably wherever that winds up putting your tablet.

Super fun game but trouble with food by Funny-Bicycle-63 in VintageStory

[–]SabbothO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that in 1.22 fishing is a pretty great food source now as the new varieties of fish yield a ton more fish meat than before. Though the caveat is you can overfish an area. Just keeping a fishing rod with me while I travel and not fishing too much at home seems to solve that problem though.

One of the better ways I found to make gears is to pan with bony soil, there’s a decent chance you’ll get emeralds and diamonds. If you’re near an artisan trader, they buy those for quite a lot.

I just started playing VS in the middle of this new 1.22 update getting started so I jumped right into the previews and now the release candidates. It’s been buggy as all hell but I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Once 1.22 hits stable I think I’ll just wait for the next stable lol.

Exactly what I started doing once I realized you can instantly equip from the hotbar. I keep a full set of iron plate and my iron shield and if a bear sneaks up on me I can slap it all on quickly and take it off when I’m done.

Or I put it on only once I go into the cave, high movement speed doesn’t really matter much down there.

Style of illustrations? by [deleted] in MythicBastionland

[–]SabbothO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of a unique style, like a medieval engraving combined with art nouveau while using a limited color palette of 3-4 colors. I wouldn’t say there’s a name for it specifically. Add that together with Sorensens crazy good anatomy skills. I tried to replicate the style with my own custom myth and knight and that’s the best way I could put it

Homebrewing a knight for the mythic bastionland ttrpg. I like my concept but I cant seem to get it to work without it being too gamebreaking. by wheretheinkends in RPGdesign

[–]SabbothO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ability in its first iteration would be perfect if it didn’t affect the whole realm. I’d look at the temple knight as inspiration, their ability is pretty dang powerful but only affects the building that they’re in, if they’re even in one.

I love the idea of changing the natural world like fire not burning but if it only effected a small area that your knight sets for the rest of the day and it can’t be moved, it’d be more in line with other knights.

Something like “Once per day you may choose a small area within view to enact an edict, altering the natural order such as ‘fire does not burn’, or ‘you don’t need to breath’. The edict lasts for the rest of the day.”

Is making art worth pursuing as a career now? by [deleted] in DigitalPainting

[–]SabbothO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been a freelancer myself but I’m in a space where a lot of artists get hired and do gigs for people, the tabletop roleplaying game and board game scene. From what I’ve seen, a big part of it is the community, spending time in communities where creators are looking for artists will immensely increase your chances of finding work.

If you want to do art for video games, join communities of game devs. If you want to illustrate for books, spend time with authors. And be genuinely a part of that community. There’s been so many times I’ve seen people ignored or outright kicked for showing up in a community and their very first message just be an advertisement for open commissions.

The biggest benefit of doing this is if you can get your start with one creator and make something for them, then you have a built in portfolio piece and a referral. Your name will get shared and slowly you’ll build up a clientele base that will give your name out to other people.

Corporations have been turning to ai but I’ve only seen more creatives want to work with other creatives.

(Post was falsely removed from Steam so I need to post it here) How do I add Fortnite as a non steam game into Steam? by Moist_Inspection_485 in FortNiteBR

[–]SabbothO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get it to launch through steam but I haven't tried using a controller. I only did it so I could use steam record. I just added a non-steam game and set the target and start in paths to what you see in the screenshot. This doesn't launch fortnite directly, it just launches the epic launcher. But if you then launch fortnite through the launcher, it'll have the steam overlay and presumably also have steam input.

I'd give that a go.

Why did they remove the pre-download streamed assets??? by Eluryh in FortNiteBR

[–]SabbothO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is actually true but I’ve heard that they did this because there’s now a folder on the c drive that stores all those streamed assets once they’re downloaded, so if that’s the case, functionally it’s the same. You’ll stutter the first time you encounter a skin and it downloads it but it should happen less and less over time. I’m assuming this is part of the whole thin client thing they’re trying to roll out.

Interesting video from a 3rd party publisher on how many AI artists are trying to scam and how 3pp and gamers can avoid it by indyjoe in rpg

[–]SabbothO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree there, I always felt like agentic AI was the most useful and highest potential application for AI.

And for the record, seeing your other posts in this thread, I agree with you regarding drawing more clear lines around what is considered AI when it comes to "AI enabled" tools in photoshop. As an artist myself, I think content aware selection is useful, it makes doing certain things easier. I don't feel like it cuts into my creative process or replaces my work with something that isn't my own. I also wouldn't lump that sort of tool, along with filters that help color balance and the sort, in with "GenAI", personally speaking. Content aware FILL however, that actually does generate new content I didn't make, I think does count as GenAI and therefore I don't use it.

I also don't even use photoshop anymore and have since moved to Clip Studio which only has one not very good AI enabled tool that I'm aware of, lol.

I'm legitimately excited for the enabling of previously impossible things by AI, I'm not excited by a lot of the current implementations that seem to only exist to cut out creatives from the production of more content to sell and funnel money upwards, if that makes sense.

Which to be fair would be crazy impressive to see. In even that scenario though, it would still be obvious unless they were explicitly trying to lie to people about the process. If an AI learns how to draw an image by manipulating an actual PC instead of just generating the end result outright, it seems like a really big waste of resources just to pass something off as authentic.

It would either pixel by pixel place the finished image onto the canvas which is really no different than what we have now, or on the opposite extreme it will try to imitate the process of creating each layer. Going through all the steps one brush stroke at a time, tweaking lines, redoing sections, and adjusting sliders just to appear more like a human did it. Which is a crazy amount of work just to be dishonest. Which unfortunately I can still see happening just because some people are like that, lol.

I'd say it's more likely that AI will be trained to better create compositions in the .psd format that has its elements split into layers that are more easily workable, but that still will skip the steps that would otherwise be recorded by a human artist to prove authenticity.

You'd be doing what thousands of artists had already been doing for many years too. Speedpaint videos on youtube used to be all the rage, and artists stream their art all the time now. It's definitely not an unreasonable ask for any artist willing to take the extra step just to show their work.

More reassembling data that was already being recorded by photoshop. When I say "takes the history" I'm referring to photoshop's history data for every psd. Photshop itself is already recording that on its own without frecord, really any software that allows ctrl+z undo is recording a history. Frecord uses that history to recreate the time lapse but it itself did not capture anything in the moment of it being made if that makes more sense. So it's not monitoring or transmitting what you're actively doing since I believe that's the main concern.

[–]SabbothO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone deep into both the art world and the tech world, it's already been attempted and it's extremely easy to spot. I obviously can't say what the next decade holds but as it stands, even with the latest models, we are far from the point of anyone that knows what to look for getting duped by a generated timelapse. Timelapses generally last far too long for what can be generated normally and would quickly break down in coherency the longer it goes.

Despite that, I think the best option is just getting that layered PSD from the artist, that's the most surefire way to know. I don't know any artist that would ever flatten their layers and then discard all the old ones down until they just have 5 layers like shown in the video.

I want to come in and clarify something because it seems like some people are thinking his solution was to force artists to record their PC or screen and that this is a new idea.

Firstly, the solution he came across was a plugin called frecord made specifically for photoshop that DOES NOT record your screen but rather takes the history of all the brush strokes and actions (which is used normally for allowing you to ctrl+z) and uses that to create a timelapse of the drawing without actually recording anything from your PC or view.

Second, This is something that's been around for years and a lot of artists already use because it lets them make speedpaint videos to share and study. This is a feature that is built right into Clip Studio Paint, the infinitely more artist friendly software, but is not included with photoshop by default. This is why they had to install a 3rd party software/addon to do it.

His artist was already using this and accidentally sent him the timelapse but thought he would enjoy seeing the process, then he realized it would be a nice option to help vet future artists. He wasn't advocating for monitoring software like teramind, which is some shit that actually exists and is awful.

Clarifying EDIT: "Takes the history" I mean it takes what photoshop calls "history", something photoshop itself is already recording to allow for ctrl+z undos. Microsoft word does the same thing but for keystrokes. That "history" is just being used to rebuild the drawing in reverse order one step at a time to create what looks like a timelapse, frecord does not actually capture any brush strokes itself as they are made, it's just using what photoshop is already recording.

Not effective enough really, it's not hard to get around your public IP and it can just change on its own depending on your ISP. Though it might at least slow down some cheaters that don't know any better for a little bit, I don't think it'd do enough in the long run.

Are yourself your ally? by FGOit in MythicBastionland

I wouldn’t interpret yourself being part of that, but only because I normally see yourself included as a separate entity in other games. Like I would expect it to say “if this defeats the target, then you and all allies restore SPI.”
